During the following months, large numbers died from the effect of burns, radiation sickness, and other injuries, compounded by illness. In a US estimate of the total immediate and short term cause of death, 15–20% died from radiation sickness, 20–30% from flash burns, and 50–60% from other injuries, compounded by illness. In both cities, most of the dead were civilians.

More people died in the fire bombings of Tokyo than were directly killed by the atomic blasts. He firebombings created firestorms. They were awful.
Then again, the people who survived the atomic blasts were kind of shunted off into a lower class of citizen as kind of an embarrassing reminder of what happened and a burden on society. That in itself was pretty awful.
