WANT... *reads some more*
has been done away with in exchange for more linear and directed gameplay, which is intended to help deliver a better progression of the narrative and a sense of suspense and tension when traversing the sometimes claustrophobic interiors of the game.
From another perspective, I loved the driving and open worldiness, but will give Volition the benefit of the doubt that cutting them out and focussing on the story will still yield good results.
RF:G makes me wish BC2 had modding tools so we could get some custom maps, at least until some little cunt decides it would be a good a idea to model his school and then 9.11. Fucking kids.
Whilst I like an open world experience, I'm not worried about losing it in Red Faction: Armageddon. The game looks like it's going to be great fun regardless and it's only a week later that I'll be getting a open world experience with inFamous 2.
And goddamn if that Descent style trailer doesn't just make me want this game even more.

I just realized that by the time this comes out, I will have a $20 Amazon credit for buying Portal 2. It will be tempting to use it.
It'll be up on Xbox Live and PSN - assuming the latter is back up of course :P - on May 3rd and it'll let you smack around Martians with the magnet gun and the nano forge.

Just got an email from Amazon that the game has been delayed to June 7th.

I was hoping the delay was only going to hit you guys in the states, but it seems that the delay is universal, meaning that I won't get this until the 10th.

Also, it was announced yesterday that Mike Kulas, CEO of Volition, is leaving the company. Kind of made me sad to hear that after watching that little documentary of the company by Game Informer.
As someone who was a big fan of the previous game, and more than concerned about the new direction this game was taking, I am pleasently suprised with the demo! using the magnet gun is one of the most satisfying things I have used in a game in a longggg time.

Shit! I forgot the demo is out today. Guess I'll queue it up for download for when I get home.

The magnet gun is civilization. It's a short demo, but I think I spent a good hour breaking and rebuilding the same room over and over again like a self-made martian Sisyphus.
Although I am kinda disappointed that the death-shitting unicorn isn't in Saints Row 3, being able to use it as a weapon against Mars is definitely worth it.

Does it have a time limit or are you just free to mess around as long as you like in a given area? I can't sit down and play it for a bit so just wondering.

I didn't run into any invisible timers while I played. It is a pretty short demo, just a small chunk from the early parts of the game (I assume), but it didn't force me out of my "I am unleashing Magnet Gun hell on this cavern and probably ruining human life on Mars while I do it and NOTHING CAN STOP ME" interludes.
I got all excited about playing the demo, only to find that the Xbox demo is for Gold members only.
Normally it wouldn't be a problem thanks to the fact that I also have a PS3, but since the Playstation Store is down and shows no sign of coming back up any time soon, it looks like I'm going to have to wait for a fair while before I can give the demo a whirl.
I'm a huge fan of Red Faction:Guerrilla. Outside of Arkham Asylum, it was my favorite game of 2009. I love the setting, the destructibility, the open world. I love taking on missions in any order I choose. I thought the MP was unique and, especially for their first try and something totally different, pretty damn fun.
When 1st word of a sequel to Guerrilla came out, I was excited. And everything that I've heard about the game since has bummed me out more and more. No open world. No MP. Now today, I got to try the demo.
What a pile of shit. I guess Volition was more interested in pleasing the detractors of Guerrilla, than the actual fans of the game. Do we REALLY need another shitty Gears clone? Do I really need another co-op Horde mode? Why the hell am I walking down a narrow corridor? Where's the open environments? Guerrilla was fast and fun, why does this feel so sluggish?
If you can't tell, I'm really pissed off about this. I died twice in the demo, turned it off, and deleted it. What a fucking waste. They better hope that all the Gears fans get antsy, decide they want to take a break from the Gears 3 beta for a while, and buy this game. Because the majority of fans of the 1st game AREN'T GOING TO FUCKING BUY IT.
I still remember having zero expectations for Guerrilla, downloading the demo, and playing it through 4 or 5 times, then telling my friends to try the demo. It was fucking amazing the first time you set off a chain reaction of explosives, of getting into that mech and wrecking shit. I had the complete opposite reaction with the RF:A demo. Zero, ZERO interest in this... not only buying it, but I don't think I even want to rent it.
I love the feel of this game more than Guerrilla. Guerrilla was a shitty open world game with some amazing destructive enviroments.
My only complain about the demo was the mech part, because instead of a gatling gun I should've had more missiles. Depending on reviews I'll pick it up.
I really don't see how you can call this a gears clone... I guess both games are dark in places? The controls feel exactly like the RF:G, I'm not sure why they feel sluggish to you.
It's like they took RF:G and gave mason force powers. At one point I magnet gunned a big (green) brute enemy, then launched him towards a wall. As he flew through the air, he splattered a smaller enemy, slammed through the wall, then got crushed by a gigantic pipe that he knocked loose. It was awesome. The magnet gun is the best gun.... ever.

Tried the demo last night and it was good, but then the Guerrilla demo was utterly awesome and I couldn't help but wish this was as good as that. BUT I'm not knocking it because the magnet gun will provide hours of entertainment, as will the singularity gun. Where the Guerrilla demo got better with each replay (as well as using bombs and the hammer, instead of guns), I feel this shows that Armageddon can be more straightforward, and the general impression I'm getting of the game is that it'll be more fast-paced and a lot more action-ey. Basically I feel it looks different to what I loved about Guerrilla, but still very good.
I feel like this game's going to be better than guerrilla. Once i learned the proper way to use the magnet gun, I was in love with it. Guerrilla was alright, but I feel like it was too open, this one seems like it will be a more focused experience. Repairing shit you've destroyed is one of the cooler things to be in a game in a while. I wasn't too terribly interested in this one until now :^:

Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
I liked the option to mix up the pace in Guerrilla, because I'm someone who enjoys just cruising around in my spacecar and taking in the rolling Martian landscape. As such, I will always love Guerrilla for being that experience. The impression I'm getting from Armageddon is that Volition got a lot of feedback from people who didn't like that (and that's fair enough) and wanted to take more direct control over the pace (which they've stressed a fair few times, and is again absolutely fine), which is what is now being demonstrated in trailers and the demo. It's a different beast, I can understand it irking people who loved Guerrilla's atmosphere, but I'm still looking forward to it for the game that it is.

As much fun as Magnet Gun + vehicles would be (ie SO MUCH FUN), I appreciate the fact that there's less empty in RF:A. Walking into a room and seeing shit on the floor, shit on the walls and shit on the ceiling and knowing that you and your Magnet Gun are gonna fuck it all up until you're bored with it is good times.
Also, thank you Volition for not putting any constraints on the Magnet Gun's ability to fire. Limiting the ammo or requiring a charge would've taken away so much of its fun.

Also, one million people NEED to download this demo. If they do, there's a unicorn that shits rainbows and destruction in it for us, and that's the gift that keeps on giving.
