Boy, I sure hope they include his fatality where he inflates the opponents head and they float of screen and explode in a shower of 20 rib cages.
Bah, that was for losers. Didn't he have one where he scared them SO much that their ghost ran away?
Man, that was awesome.
MK3 fatalities really sucked didn't they?
Not as bad as Quan Chi's fatality from MK:DA, but yes they sucked pretty bad.
Speaking of fatalties, I'm not sure if I posted this before, but game trailers is doing "Fatality Fridays" leading up to Mortal Kombat's release. Each friday they show off all the fatalities from a particular game
I scored the KE, amazon said it was out of stock, but when you hit new and used amazon was the first offer? Thought I had missed it. This fame is looking great, love the demo, my GF is interested, and those book ends are worth the money even if the game sucks! Lol.
so how do you make the game actually remember button configuration changes?
I can change them fine, but everytime when i go to the fights it's back to the (sucky) default config.
fuck this layout, this isn't how it was on my SNES.
I'm fairly sure the control config is bugged and doesn't work.
Nah, it's not bugged, just stupid. You have to push square, and change the control preset to 1 or whatever, rather than default. Each player can have 4 setups, and I have no idea why they did this, unless they are expecting people to have a different control setup for each character.

Oh, wow. That's... odd.
It did bug the fuck out of me though, since the default controls are nearly unplayable on my controller

Yes.
They really, really really did.
What always puzzles me, is how nearly all the Friendships in that game have really unique, well made animations.
And then all the Fatalities have basically nothing captured for them. And they're all just manipulations of existing moves performed on still "dazed" images of the actors, which are then manipulated by chopping them into bits and stuff. Badly. So their hands are floating next to their thighs.

As mentioned before, I'll send it over in another case if someone wants
Honestly what are they going to do to detect it? Open up every package that could possibly contain Mortal Kombat.
I work for customs in the UK and I wont go into detail but you'd be suprised how robust the systems in place can be for detecting this kind of thing.
I should imagine anything classified under DVD sized media, or goods being imported from certain consignors (games publishers or games retailers) will have new guidelines attached instructing officers in the field to open numbers of packages up on a percentage basis and have a look inside. (and if you get caught mis-classifying something to intentionally disguise it and avoid the field checks, you get fucked quite royally for it)
It is by no means perfect and the likelyhood of getting caught might be low, but the consiquence of getting caught importing it is the deterrant. Is Mortal Kombat really worth that?
It's a shitty situation indeed.

Seriously? WTF, Australia? Man, I'm so tempted to start a underground railroad for all the impoverish Australians out there.
Noob Saibot: Ripping people in half is probably easier from the legs than from the arms.
Kung Lao: It'd be hard to drag a guy through a spinning sawblade by his head
Kabal: It'd be harder to do the "head stuck on a stick" part if you sliced the head in half first.
It makes sense to start with the crotch in each situation.
Just pulled the trigger on Xbox Tourney edition. Wife will not be pleased...
Or maybe you'll find out she loves some MK
One thing I had hope they'd get away from is needless extra gore in fatalities. J Cage's uppercut is fine, the head is gone, why rip the body in half afterwards?
I think he means like, after death has occurred. Tearing arms off, beating guy to death with them = non-superfluous. Tearing head off, then rummaging around in his chest cavity = superfluous.

I think what he meant was how one could be superfluous and one could not when they are both pretty over the top and silly
which is, again, the point
edit: beat'd. I mean, if you don't want a gory ending you can always finish with sub zero's ice ball or something and end with style, but still

The point is, as someone said earlier, pretty much they only way someone actually dies in MK is if their head comes off or destroyed/eaten/cut in half, or their heart gets ripped out. So when you tear a guy's arms off he's still alive and yelling or whatever, so when you beat on him more you're not just hitting a bag of dead meat. Whereas if the first thing you do is take a guy's head off, whatever comes after that is just mutilating a corpse. He doesn't care what's going on, he's already dead.
edit: although the Fatality at issue was Johnny Cage's one. He takes the head off and then the torso, but the reason he grabs the torso is so he has something to spike into the ground, bouncing the head back up so he can catch it and do an "I'm Johnny Cage" pose. That's also not superfluous because the further mutilation served the purpose of Cage doing a pose, which he likes doing.
For me, it's not the excessiveness. The fatalities need to be excessive. But the guy who pointed out that we already have three variations on "split the body directly in half" is getting at something - there's gotta be a VARIETY of excessiveness, and that's gonna take a lot of creativity on-staff. Considering how well the X-rays are turning out, I'm fine believing they've managed to keep the Fatalities all looking/feeling fresh, but considering the history of the series (MK3's recycled fatalities keep popping up in the thread) it's worth noting that a slight few of these finishing moves are starting to look a LITTLE samey. But there's been nothing in the previous games like the lava-stage fatality, or the car-crash fatality, either.
Not bad at all. I know I'm not worried about that in the slightest, but I can see why someone would be. for as good as this game looks, skeptical people will always be able to point backwards at the rest of the series and say "yeah, but..."

It's Kabal isn't it.

man what did they do to kabals mask?
it's nowhere near as cool without the cylinder goggles.

Then he shreds the back of your ribs. I think it's the most destructive x-ray move we've seen yet.
I like Kano's x-ray personally.
He puts a knife through each one of the other guy's femurs, then a boot to the skull.

Umm...what?
Though I heard a rumor that Quan-chi kept his "rips off your leg and beats you with it" Fatality.
I was leaning towards the 'Those are both quite superfluous' angle.
which is, again, the point

by that definition, scorpion's fatality where he chops the torso/neck, kicks the torso, and chops the head is also needless.
but it would also be really fucking lame if he didn't.
