Japan have unsurprisingly pulled out of the Copa America.
I'm not sure the organisers will be able to find an adequate replacement at such short notice.

I take comfort in the fact that it's highly unlikely for DC United's 2011 season to be worse than 2010. But that's a really low bar.

Still no movement on a stadium, though.....

Section 136 here. Can't wait for the season to start. Went to the charity match last week, but the real deal should be way more fun. Hoping the Sounders show up against the Galaxy this year, unlike last year.

And Najar and that Kitchen kid. And Hamid, once he's healthy. The team has decent prospects over the next few years, but we're not really there yet. But if we just end up as a mediocre team fighting for a lower playoff spot this year, I'll be thrilled.

Listened to the mls podcast today. Fredy Adu was on. He seems I guess obviously more mature. That kid, I wonder how we will view him in like 6 years.

Section 104 here! I feel pretty good about our chances tomorrow, especially if Friberg gets to start. He looks sharp. Although Zakuani might be hurt, so who knows.

Nice, so we have 4 Sounders regulars/season ticket holders here? Well done.

Yeah I think Zakuani is listed as questionable for tomorrow which is unfortunate. And I wish Jaqua would get healthy soon, could use his size. Regardless, excited to finally get underway.

He's playing in the Turkish division 2 or something now, right?

I think he would have been much better off spending a few more years in MLS before trying to go overseas. I think he's be better off coming back to MLs now to try and salvage his career.

I'm pretty excited to have MLS in Vancouver now, I'm going to be more of a soccer fan with a local team to follow in the top league in North America.

It is going to be nasty at Empire Field on Saturday though. We've got a forecast of seven straight days of rain, it is going to make people think "hey, moving to the reno'ed BC Place with the retractable roof is a pretty good idea"

I'm hoping for 2 things... well 3: a win against the Galaxy, that Zak's injury isn't that bad and that Sigi realizes this team is better off with Friberg paired up with Alonso in the middle. This team did almost nothing for 60 minutes with Evans/Alonso in the center mid pairing last week and then went on to put 3 goals in after Friberg came on (I know it was against the 2nd unit from Colorado). And a bonus 4th:. N'kufo should be the super sub in the 2nd half when the other team is tired from running.

I think they're doing some gamesmanship with Zakuani, honestly. He's been our leading source of goals against LAG, and if they don't think he'll be there then it's less likely they'll have their fullbacks try to prepare to contain him.

It's a bit flimsy, but I could see the team taking any possible advantage they can get after how many times LA trampled us last season.

It's looking like rain tomorrow, hopefully it'll be pretty light. I think my seats for this season are something like two rows behind where the covers come into play, though. :)

Vancouver has a team? Since when? :P

Yeah, I'm not a super-fan or anything, but I'll go to a few games this year for sure (already went to the pre-season match against the Timbers). I'll almost certainly head to Portland when the Sounders go down there.

And next year Montreal enters the league. Which should be interesting, given their somewhat hooliganish fanbase.

One good result from adding Montreal is that it should put the final nail in the coffin of the argument that MLS should go to a fall-spring schedule.

The betting pool starts now for whether team #20 will be a revived New York Cosmos, or David Beckham FC in Miami.

I went to the A-League final on Sunday and what a game it was. Was between Central Coast and Brisbane. Brisbane only lost 1 game all season and have been fantastic. Central Coast came second on the ladder as well.

It was 0-0 at full time with Brisbane dominating but not converting. In the first half of extra time, Central Coast score 2 goals. It was devastating. Stays like that for most of the second half of extra time. In the 116th minute, Brisbane get a goal. They were all out attacking for the last 3 minutes. Get a corner in the 120th minute. Head it in to equalise on the last play of extra time.

Penalties go Brisbane's way with their keeper saving 2 out of 4 while they scored all of theirs. One of the best comebacks I've ever seen and most dramatic finishes too.

We take what we can get.

    MLS FANTASY LEAGUE VOTE.

There are two this year, one basic-ish salary cap league (which is in the OP)

And a full on manager/draft league (like baseballs I assume)

Which one do you guys want to do? My vote is for the draft league. Whatever has the most votes by 8pm tonight is what we will use. PM your choice.

Inter just tied Bayern Munich 2-all, Inter's now down 3-2 on aggregate with about half an hour to go. Sneijder with the shot just now, not the greatest of save attempts.

Meanwhile, thank you to Tractor Sazi of Iran for the latest book-related reminder of just why the hell I'm sifting through all these clubs I've never heard of.

Hm, N'Kufo not starting tonight as discipline for an "incident" in training. I swear I had nothing to do with either Evans getting hurt or N'Kufo's incident, but I don't mind seeing Friberg and O'Brian White start tonight.

Also, Come on Bayern! get some possession and an insurance goal

Yeah, they played pretty tentatively in the 2nd half of this game. Losing Robben halfway through the 2nd didn't help either.

    Edit:
I wish Bayern's management hadn't been so halfway with things this year, either back the club manager til the end of the season or fire him in the winter transfer window. That halfway stance of firing him but keeping him til the end of the season (and announcing it) cost the team confidence and they're done in pretty much every competition now.
