Pretty certain they're both subjective, as he's using the words. Pretty much the same as when I use the word "suck." When I use the word "this sucks" this is a usage referring to that I do not like it, not that it is objectively a piece of crap. The spoken language is fairly malleable, despite your leanings towards genius literary analysis.
He should post "in my opinion" or "I think this guy sucks"
it's not my fault he posted poorly
and considering this is written and not spoken language your last point is kind of invalid!
Ok...I'm not new to the concept of the LP, but I am new to knowing names of LPers. I do have to say that that video was an extremely poor introduction to the one known as slowbeef. It was not at all entertaining. In fact I thought it was terrible. Sadly, this is how I perceive 95% of all VLPs. People screaming into their microphones and talking about random stuff not even related to the game. It's simply not funny to me.
I've watched some of josh's VVVVVV video. It's well done for a VLP. His voice doesn't grate on my nerves, and he doesn't wander off topic talking about inane things. I watched Klyka's first Metroid Other M video and I thought it was relatively ok as well. VLPs just simply are not my cup of tea. Why are SSLPs better for me? I don't know. I'm going to stop analyzing this now and just not comment on VLPs anymore, since I don't have anything productive to add most of the time.

Says the man who doesn't even capitalize his sentences. ;-) But seriously, most people post on forums like they talk in real life. They're not writing essays.
I've always found SSLPs dull, but figured I just don't know where to look for good ones. If you had to recommend one to somebody who knows nothing of the genre, which one would that be, so that I might read and JUDGE IT.
I would suggest anything by the dark Id or Orange Fluffy Sheep, on the LP archive, for screenshot LPS. Dark Id manages to take many bad games and make them interesting to read through, and OFS has broken every game he's ever LPed over his knee.

That's fine, but non-sequitur randomness isn't the only type of VLP commentary, it's just the one most prevalent because it's what most people (Youtube) think is the easiest. Which is amusing because it's perhaps the hardest to do while simultaneously remaining actually entertaining. Supergreatfriend's LP of Deadly Premonition is a good example of a guy who talks calmly and informatively about a game. http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3368004

You should really watch any of chip and ironicus' lps before writing off VLPs
ed: slowbeef like...founded the concept of lp
he was the first person, ever, to VLP, and he was one of the first people, ever, to screenshot lp. That's why when you were so flippant about him it pissed me off- because he's literally the grandfather of LP

Also yeah you shouldn't write off VLPs until you've either:
1) watched literally anything chip and ironicus have ever done, ever (besides Beyond Good and Evil or Spiderman, i guess)
2) watched the sonic 2006 lp
3) watched Research Indicates' Trespasser lp

Also Smasher Dynamo's Baseball Mogul SSLP is the best lp nobody is reading, truefax
I would hesitate to say that it's the best lp ive ever read

Someone can be the "first" to do something and still suck at it. And, even so, saying he's "one of the first people, ever, to screenshot lp" is a rather hollow statement. Let's Plays are essentially walkthroughs with a slightly different spin, told from the perspective of "here is how I play this game" instead of "here is how you play this game". The difference really is essentially a choice of pronouns and tense. For an example, see Sunglasses at Night.
On the other hand, you're the first person, ever, to spew a constant stream of rage on the Penny Arcade forums at the implication that some people may not enjoy slowbeef's artistic works, so I suppose I should grant you some degree of respect for that?
I'm not sure what gives you the impression that I care that they are the "most popular, well known, and oldest lpers currently active today"
You are literally saying that the person who fucking founded Let's Play sucks
you should probably back your fucking statement up is what im saying
probably should show the class all those super important, influential lps youve done
probably should tell us about your major contribution to the lp community
how am I going to back it up? Is there some kind of archive locked in a vault somewhere with my opinions in it or some shit? I told you I think they are awful, I have no fucking clue why I need to provide some kind of evidence
your second argument is so stupid I'm not even going to respond to it.
I'm getting very, very tired of your constant singling out and decrying my posts in this thread whilst you stand idly by as everyone else gets their licks in
This Metroid game has a generic and simple puzzle to solve before being able to move on? God almighty.
how he got lost in the first fucking room in metroid prime ill never know

I don't care if you guys have disagreements in this thread but try to make discussion of it rather than round-about "fuck you"s.
In thread news, I'm gonna start re-working the thread content based on the new forum look / code. Which is to say, it's going to lose a lot of the complexity I use to love putting in. Ramius and the Vanilla team have gone silent about some things and I'm pretty much not counting on anymore forum updates to happen in a timely manner, and the list does need some tinkering and I need to reconstruct it to allow for it. Thankfully, I have the time these days.

I seem to recall something like that happening, yeah. It's been a while since I saw it, though. How angry he got over Prime 2 is still pretty fresh in my mind, however.

Meanwhile, the Helloween / Klyka fan page is... scheduled to be archived.

I'm pretty sure that's Super Columbine RPG by taxidermistpasta.
I've never seen anyone else get lost in a straight hallway for fifteen minutes just because it opens into a round room with doors on opposite sides.

Wait I'm lost, which LP is this?
I don't know why I'm drawn to people being bad at games but I have to see it.
slowbeef got lost in the first room? O_o
I had to stop watching because watching him play and miss blatantly obvious things for twenty or thirty minutes was a little bit frustrating.
As I recall from the actual thread, Adus didn't like that video. A strange one, that Adus.
