Well, to be frank, there are a couple people in the DA2 threads here that have been borderline white knighting the game's (well more often EA's) bad decisions to the point of silly as well. Mentioning names or going into it more than that is begging for an internet fight, so I'll just say I've seen it on both sides, really bad in some cases, and leave it at that.
Metacritic thing is stupid though, as I'm pretty sure a lot of those didn't bother playing the game at all. Not that I'm against writing comments that explain their issues with the game there, but actually downvoting the score is dishonest, since that's reserved for the gameplay itself.
Really, it's more the fans refusing to admit any faults that turned me off ME2.
Spoit, we admitted ME2 has flaws.
We just don't think they ruin the game like you do.
And excessive praise is the last problem I think you'll find with Dragon Age II. Considering even the most glowing of reviews on this forum have caveats.
Considering how much people on this forum hatted the original, even compared to ME1 hate?
You keep saying that, but there really isn't all that much DAO hate. DAO has issues. Those issues tend to get talked about when the game is brought up. That isn't exactly declaring it the shittiest game ever made and that BioWare sold out by making another fantasy RPG.
so can you romance multiple people in one playthrough
a uh
friend wants to know
I also want to know, because in the fade
Isabella turned on me, and I want to fuck Merrill to get back at her.
Or maybe fuck everyone else to piss her off.
You can have sex with all romantic interests over the course of one playthrough. Fenris
actually has a scripted breakup in Act 2
and some interesting dialogue with Anders if you get together with him after.
The Bioware forums provide for us all.
Lady Hawke can only pursue the chaste romance with Sebastian if she never flirts with anyone else over the course of the game.
The Sebastian romance is the "thoughtfully holds the photo of Liara in his stateroom before the suicide mission" of DA2. Pity it's only available to lady Hawke.
Halfway through Act 1, not even at the Deep Roads yet, but I like how this game rewards you for a well-thought out party with members that complement each other.
So I'd like to get to know some party builds other people are running.
Doing a Mage Hawke run right now. I like having Anders around doing healing and assorted supportive stuff. Thinking of giving him Heroic Aura to free up one more slot for my Hawke. I like having Aveline around to tank; I just turn on all her sustains and occasionally press Taunt. Fourth slot is for DPS; I usually use Fenris or Isabella. Might respec Varric; I'm not too fond of the Specialist tree, and I think I'd prefer building him as a controller/semi-DPS. No comments on Merrill since I only just got her, but I think I'll have her as my main debuffer.
I'm also enjoying all the sarcastic response. With my Hawke's scruffy appearance and witty banter, I wish I had the foresight of naming him Dresden Hawke from the get-go.

The final ability in the Specialist tree looked so good at first. Mind you, this was when I was still new to the game and had just gotten Varric. He already had a point invested, so why not another?
I think it's fine (if silly) when you're killing dudes and out adventuring, but the fact that it exists all the time, even when you're just chilling at home is kind of ridiculous and so it should never be used.
"Well, finally got out of all that armor and can relax in my robe and slippers...time to cover myself with the blood of my enemies!"
I think the blood smear is silly because it never ever comes off.
If it occurred once you drew blood in battle, that would be different. When you are relaxing at home, wearing nice clean clothes among your dog and family, why the hell do you need a blood smear across your face?
They could have just made the smear into a tattoo, and give you the choice of having it or not. I remember someone made a tattoo out of Aveline's freckles.
Speaking of tattoos, does anyone use them? One of them makes Hawke look like a raccoon.

If you're not romancing her and have rivalry (as opposed to friendship) does she leave you permanently at the end of Act 2? ie: Is friendship and/or romance the only way to retain her?
I found out that it's a damned shame Qunari women don't make an appearance in DA2...
I'm sorry, but Qunari women are HOT.
IIRC, in that quest with the magisters son he gets accused of tapping the Qunari womenfolk. But Bioware don't usually like putting females of the lesser featured races in, since it takes time that isn't necessary to take.

Nope
50% rivalry or friendship does the trick.
That's kind of what I figured, since they've pretty consistently said that both rivalry and friendship are viable.
I just wanted to be extra extra sure because I've been through that once already the first run.

I don't think the woman was accusing him of tapping the womenfolk...>_>...

There are no female Qunari soldiers and there are only soldiers in Kirkwall...

I think it more has to do with the fact that the Arishok's ship was full of warrior and mage Qunari; the types that would fight in battle. As per Qunari custom, women rarely, if ever, fight. It's not sexism, as Sten would put it, it's more or less that female Qunari are considered more suitable for roles that males would be lacking in.
As such, it would be very rare to see a female Qunari unless future games take us to Par Vollen.

Turns out it's really garbage.
I bought the guide. It recommended getting the specialist tree, maxing the speed bonuses (get harmony), and getting the buffs in Varrics tree that max his attack speed. Whole things costs you six points in specialist. Its a fair bit.
It works fairly well though. Fully speed buffed he can rain a lot of hell with Bianca. And since you can get multiple cooldown bonuses. The special abilities refresh pretty quick. You just need a lot of stamina potions.

but I did tell Eamon to hang him
I always betrayed him and then told him in the final room what was going on.
And then let him rot in that cell.
And then sent him off with the Templars to become tranquil.
Hate Jowan so much.

I'm pretty sure I recall reading somewhere that Jowan was intended to be a much more important npc.
They dodged a bullet when they reconsidered that one.

If by romance you mean have sex with, yes. I've done it with Isabella and Merill in one play through, but you can only complete the romance with one.
Sixty -40- on Origin for some ME3 goodness.

You think that would piss off Isabela?
If you play a mage, he's with you longer isn't he?

Hawke: "Isabela...I've got something...I need to talk about..."
Isabela: "Why...what is it, Hawke?"
Hawke: "I slept...with Merrill..."
Isabela: "You what!?"
Hawke: "Listen...I..."
Isabela: "And you didn't invite me! You've got some nerve!"

My main group was...
Two Hand Hawke
Aveline
Varric
Bethany/Anders
Pretty basic, but effective, party setup.
Turns out it's really garbage.
How do you feel about the blood smear? I'm really torn on it right now. I kind of like it, but I kind of think it's a silly bit of face painting.

That would make an interesting addition to the story.

Not a big deal.
The tattoos all look pretty dumb.
