G I A N T ¤ A N T S
ITS FRAKKING ANTS, MAN.
This is a short adventure featuring giant ants, and of course other monsters, attacking a town. This thread is a recruitment thread for a
controller spot, it is also a template. If you are interested in playing a
controller in this game, please see below:
A. A bunch of sentences that describe how the game is run.Table:Current title: GIANT ANTS COLON ITS FRAKKING ANTS, MAN.
Time Zone: I live in the Eastern Standard Time Zone, so the play time will kind of be more favorable to that zone. (8am-12am) or something similar to that, assuming RL doesn't kick my ass.
Starting Level: 4 - See DMG for information on starting a second level character.Creation rules[/b]: 22 Points Flat (And a 3d3-5 Roll). The roll is of mechanical importance. Do not roll it yet.
Target start: Already active.
Medium: PBP only
Maptool version: N/A
Maptools Session Length: N/A
The Table - Rules: Not too serious/rigid interpretation of the ruleset.
The Table - Content: Look at the title. Think.
Difficulty: It's random.
Experience Required: A basic understanding of how to play would be great?
Books Required: Any 4E content is allowed, at my discretion. Don't be a dick?
List of preferred races:
- All PHB Races.
- All PHB2 Races, yes. even Deva.
Other races that are available within normal player material (IE: Non MM races) are okay too, but I would strongly prefer a PHB or PHB2 raced char. While it goes without saying, choosing a race that is insectoid in nature/appearance when the game is about killing giant insects is probably a bad idea. Could it work? Sure, but it would take a lot to make it so.
List of acceptable classes:
- I am specifically looking for a controller role character.
- This game has the amenities and tech level of an late 1800s era civilization, including indoor plumbing.
The party dynamic:
There's a big dumb guy, an action girl, a casanova/hero, and a reluctant hero.
Here are their names/class/etc:
Inutchuk (Fighter, Martial, Goliath, Defender) [Horseshoe] (Sheet)
Giant ants meet giant... man.
Jenny Pope (Ranger, Martian, Human, Striker) [Quoth] (Sheet)
Two time Mossy Vale Hide and Seek Champion!
Matthias (Cleric, Divine, Half-Elf, Leader) [REG Rysk] (Sheet)
Is an hero!
Quinnten (Sorcerer, Arcane, Human, Striker) [SnowSquall] (Sheet)
Once a farmer, now a sorcerer, beware his frosty dragon breath.
B. What am I looking for?
To the extent that is reasonably possible, I would say being able to post at least once a day is a must. Being able to post more would be nice. I'm fairly active during the weekdays with posting, barring any unusual RL circumstances or being busy. I don't expect you to live and breathe this, it's just a game ffs, but yea... it is just a game, meaning if you don't post you shouldn't feel slighted if you're replaced or whatever.
Really important note: activity
includes non-combat. Despite its brevity and absurdity, it's still a roleplaying game. A party full of strong, silent types is not what I'm looking for, even with this game. All characters should be made with the baseline assumption that they will join a group for this adventure. Also, no evil characters. So, what am I looking for at this point?
A
post, with the following responses:
1) Current pbp games you are in or run. If you feel you were awesome in some game or whatever you can mention past ones too?
2) Availability M-F for maek post, and time zone you are in.
3) A brief description of your controller character's appearance and personality.
4) Droplets of boiling sulfur fall to the ground as the dragon flies overhead. With each massive downstroke of its wings, trees sway and debris rolls down the street. A group of children hold hands and dance and sing happily. The dragon roars long and hard, droplets of hot sulfur raining down onto the rooftops streets below it.
"Lovely weather outside, isn't it?" An elderly man asks. (Behind a spoiler, reply in character to that).
You don't need to fully generate a character, I don't expect one here. Just what I asked for in this post is fine. You don't need to reserve a post, not like there's a line or whatever. I would prefer that you only put in one submission here per person.
So in summary: I'm looking for a controller character. A brief post with what I asked for in part B is sufficient. Please do not PM me with your concept and if you have any other questions about this just post them here, thanks.
You will be coming into the game either falling out of the sky, spawning in a building as they move through the city, or some other random entry point that I may think of later. Oh yea, again you'll be starting as a level 4 character. There is no set time of closing this recruitment at this point.
PS: No Shaman.

2) I am available a couple of times per day M-F, I usually have some time around 10:30, then my lunch is around 12:30, then I'm home by 6 or 7pm. I am in the central time zone (USA!), so according to your time zone, I have free time around 11:30am, lunch around 1:30pm, then home from work around 7 or 8pm.
3) Associate Professor Nim of the Prestigious Western Academy of the Arcane Sciences is about an average height for a gnome, but with very disappointing eyebrows. This has led to his assignment as a Field Wizard, sent out from the Academy to put the theories of his more illustrious peers into practical application, and return with some hard data to analyze.
Nim is quick to talk, and even quicker with his notepad. He is envious of his colleagues back home, but he's starting to enjoy life outside the winding path of academia, even if he won't admit that to himself just yet.
4)
He raised his right eyebrow shrewdly, "But it seems you already knew that, from which I must conclude that this is rather normal to the area. May I inquire as to why this occurs? Is this a ritualized communion between yourselves and the great beast (no offense intended by the word, but it is its proper classification), or are you perhaps under enchantments to not notice a dragon flying overhead?"
Nim pulled out his notebook and began jotting down what he saw. "How absolutely fascinating!"
2. Posting throughout the day M-F is no problem (and I can usually add something on the weekend), and I’m also in the eastern US time zone.
3. Grimpf (half-orc druid) is old and lively, slight (for a half-orc) but vigorous. Once a strapping lad, age and experience have whittled his frame until he’s no larger than a typical human male. His long fringe of greying hair hangs from a mostly bald pate, hand-fashioned bone beads adorn his scraggly beard, and the broken stump of his left-lower canine barely crests his lip. Personal hygiene seems to be a seasonal priority. Though uncouth and easy to dismiss as having spent too much time alone in the wilderness, his hard, unsettling stare implies that he knows more about you than you do.
4.
2) I'm in Arizona, so currently we're Pacific (GMT – 7), 3 hours difference from the East Coast. Availability wise I am definitely available to post M-F. I also post on the weekends throughout the day. Usually I can post at night, around 10pm AZ time. Occasionally I'm available in the mornings to make posts also, and I have some access from work to make posts, but I don't have my books there, so if it's combat then it might have to wait until that night.
3) Thurzan Baranor (dwarven invoker) is extremely tall for a dwarf. So much so that he sometimes gets mistaken for a short stocky human. He has fiery red hair, set in heavy braids, and his beard and mustaches are also braided together in two braids. He has a strong build, and strong, angular features. On the back of his right hand is a large tattoo of an anvil, the symbol of Moradin.
Thurzan has a very serious demeanor. He is quite literal, and as such doesn't understand or comprehend sarcasm. He is always first to accept a challenge, and meets any task with fervor and the knowledge that the will of Moradin will see his task through to a successful outcome. He speaks with confidence, almost to the point of being intimidating. Although his seriousness can be seen as gruff, he actually has a softness and kindness about him when it comes to the poor and less fortunate. He always looks to help anyone less fortunate than himself.
4)
"Despite that great lizard obscuring my view of the mountains, Moradin has seen fit to make this a glorious day, indeed." he says, his voice brimming with passion at the mention of the Great Smith, "However, I wonder if those children are safe out in the middle of the street like that. They could be hurt if struck by any of that bellowing beast's spittle. Is the dragon a member of the community, or a nuisance that needs to be removed?"
Thanks for your interest!
Having said that, I'm getting excited imagining the coarse and lecherous old orc-man meeting your characters and wrecking the afternoon of your enemies charging among combatants like a furry, fanged and clawed pinball!
(Also, I'm open to suggestions regarding characterization, powers, etc. Nothing here is set in stone.)
1) I'm not currently in any games - I've applied for a few, but no luck so far.
2) I live in Pacific time, and am available for posting several times a day. I'm on the computer all day, and it can be hard for people to tell what's work and what isn't...
3) Mordechai "Morty" Swift, human predator druid, comes across as a tall, solid lump of a man, hairy yet bald, friendly by nature, but not above screwing with people for fun. ("That's what nature does when you're not looking, you see. It fucks with you.") He always uses his human form when eating, because the food tastes better that way.
His preferred animal form, which he's in about half the time, is as a man-ape about his same size, wearing a bowler hat and vest. He tried chomping on a cigar to complete the look, but it didn't really work for him. He's just as chatty and friendly in his beast form, though he's not above reverting to "ook-speak" when the mood strikes him.
"Good day for dragon-baiting," he adds, after a bit. "Those kids are pretty good."
He looks back at the old man, his eyes narrowing suspiciously. "Weren't you supposed to be getting me a sandwich?"
So, in broad archetype ranges, I have a "Scientist", "Hobo", "Pious/Straight Man" and a "Prankster."
I already have an "Action Girl", "Dumb Strong Guy", "Pious/Skirt Chaser", and "Farmer".
At this point in the plot(?), a "Scientist" type would best fit the flow of things so Lord Palington/Professor Nim come on down!
Have fun guys. Keep me in mind for future guest appearances, voice-over work, bar/bat mitzvahs, etc...
and thanks for submitting too btw everybody.
@Palington: there's no rush. you just need to put together the mechanical innards of your level 4 character. you can host your sheet on IC or orokos. I prefer IC because it's easier for me to view power details, but it's up to you. if you have any questions just let me know.
