ok i cracked and opened it haha. it's a lot nicer looking than i expected from the photos. crazy shiny. I've just been told to calm down by my three year old for being too happy... is that a bad sign? The cradle is pretty neat.. I can see myself keeping it charged better than my dsi which is usually out of juice whenever i want it most.

Shadow wars should be incoming tomorrow, and in theory lego star wars and street fighter. Until then I think i have a date with the AR.

I called my Best Buy yesterday asking about my preorder, and they told me they were getting 20 and that it shouldn't be a problem for me to pick mine up at my leisure, even if I can't get there on Sunday, which is a good possibility. I just hope they stick to that and don't sell it to someone else.

Also, can somebody recommend a good brand of screen protector? I scratched the lower screen of my mint-green japanese import DS lite after the first pencil stroke. This was a horrible experience I don't want to repeat with a 250 Euro device. (Why does the 3DS still use a resistive touchscreen?)

People seem to recommend Hori screen protectors, so that's what I pre-ordered. That and the installation video has me curious. The thing has alignment tabs and temporary tape to help you put it on perfectly!

    This is so wrong.

I just got home to find an amazon box sitting on my counter, cue child like excitement and box opening, it's the 3ds a day early \o/ (in the uk here)... but nothing to play on it! my games haven't been dispatched yet... what the hellllll.

this blows. I'm now torn, do i turn it on and get the new gadget new 3d effect omg feeling spoiled for me on basic menus and stuff, or do i wait for gaming goodness to blow my mind. I haven't opened the box yet, i don't know what to do anymore haha... i feel like i'm 5 again.

Maaan. I'm leaving work for home now and you've got me all far too excited at the thought that mine could also be there waiting for me.

So if I'm not mistaken, if you do the pixel perfect backwards compatibility for DS games on a 3DS, the screen size is 2.4". That seems awfully small.

Yep, it's small. The pixels have to be smaller, so they can fit more in.

Automatically applies if you preordered previously. Says that on the product pages of the system and the games.

    Buy a 3DS Game, Get a $10 Credit for a 2nd Game: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...i=B 002I0IVC4

Hooray! Maybe not as good as the TRU deal, but good enough for me, and additionally matches the Kmart the deal for the system. Only downer is that you have to wait for the orders to ship before you can use the credit.

Think I'll be getting 3 games now: SFIV, Pilotwings, and Ridge Racer.

    Awesome launch is awesome!

It's possible Gamestop made up an exact date, in their little book it has June 7th with Star Fox and Kid Icarus as "Fall".

They're apparently also taking preorders for the Mario game that hasn't even been announced, so who knows.

It looks kind of goofy there, but on the other hand, I'm assuming this means you get Game Boy Micro levels of sexy sharp pixel density.

Just went to my local Best Buy and spent some quality hands-on time with the 3DS, Pilotwings, and the system menu. At first, I was getting frustrated because I found that I had difficulty focusing in Pilotwings, even with the 3D turned down pretty low, so I wondered if maybe I was one of the few people who just can't see the 3D effect... and I tried not to panic. Then I backed out to the menu and let my eyes adjust a bit, and it just clicked for me. Looked truly amazing. I went back into Pilotwings and found that I still had trouble focusing, but when I was trying to land on a target after a few minutes of play, I found that I had stopped thinking about it and was really just immersed in the experience. I'm eager to get some more hands-on time on launch day.

I own a PSP Go, so I know all about sexy sharp pixel density, but there is a definite drawback - text. Some of the text can be a strain to read since the developers assumed it would be on a bigger screen. I'm afraid the same might be true of the 3DS's DS mode.

Then again, if the full screen mode isn't too blurry, maybe I would just use that.

I gotta wonder why they didn't just do what Sony is doing and make the new resolution double that of the old system for easy scaling.

That's true re: text, and also games that are touchscreen-heavy might be a bit awkward to use in the tiny mode (something like Meteos might be nigh unplayable). When I get mine, I'll have to see how the scaling/blurring is on the 3DS versus my DSi XL. I don't know how the resolutions compare, but I love playing on my XL, though I was planning on selling it once I was able to transfer my purchases over.

Also, for anyone who hasn't noticed ... if you buy your 3DS from Amazon (or have a preorder already in), they've now added a $25 free promo credit to put toward a certain list of 3DS games (pretty much all of the launch titles) -- and if you buy one of the launch games from Amazon, you get a $10 credit to use toward a second title. Downside is that you have to wait until a day or two after your order ships in order to receive the credit. Full details here and here for the games.

This is kind of a bummer for me, as this is a downgrade from the original preorder bonus for SSFIV (a $10 credit to use on anything), so now I'm trying to figure out where I should buy SSFIV from.

    $$$$

The top screen would have to be 1280 pixels wide. That would not only increase the price of the LCD panels themselves, but they would have to increase the specs of the system to be able to render the same quality of graphics at a higher resolution, and if the processing power goes up, they'd have to use a more expensive battery to keep the same battery life.

Edit: And the parallax barrier might be more expensive to produce due to the fact a higher resolution filter would have a lower margin for error (that is, they'd have to throw more of them out)

I already picked up shadow wars from walmart on tuesday.

    My review:

WOW! I can't believe how 3d this product is. When i first tried to pull open the side of the box, it wouldnt open! I had to get a knife and 'cut' along the 3d packaging to break the 'celophane', then 'tear' it away. Once i had done this, i 'pulled' on the side of the box and the 3d effect really showed throught it was like the box opened up away from the screen!! Then i went to 'pick up' the game, as if i was actually holding the cart!! The instruction manual was FULL 3D and flipping the pages made each pop up, getting closer to my face almost like a real book!

AWESOME! I give it a twenty...out of ten.
