Today I noticed very fine marks on the top screen that appear to be from contact with frame of the lower screen. I wiped the top screen with a good cloth and they disappeared, but I'm fairly certain they will turn into actual scratches with time.
I've basically decided that a screen protector for the top screen is mandatory. Pretty disappointed with Nintendo. I mean how do you not notice that the top screen is scratched by the bottom screen during testing?
Wait, is it like a sort of distortion that runs down parallel to the left or right edge of the screen?

The 3D wasn't nearly as impressive as I thought it would be...it actually seemed pretty cheap and gimmicky :?
But I really liked the quality of the graphics themselves! The only game I got to play was SSFIV3D
If you get a chance, try Pilotwings or Shadow Wars. The 3D in them looks amazing. Pilotwings because it's like you can see forever into the screen, and Shadow Wars because it's like you're looking at a board game.
Also, be sure to fiddle around with the 3D slider, if you didn't when you demoed it before. I always change it around depending on which game I'm playing and how I'm playing it (sitting up looking down, lying in bed, etc.) to find what looks best to me.
The thing to remember about 3D is that you see it every time you're looking at something besides a screen. Well done 3D shouldn't be obvious until you shut it off.
Using your own words from that second sentence, I thought it was a really impressive gimmick from the demo that I played with Pilotwings. Also, it is very nice that its so much cheaper then any other 3D experience you can get for your home, all of which require glasses. I wonder how long it will be before we start seeing the tech in other handheld devices.

See, that doesn't excite me at all
What excites me is that tech in non-handheld devices

It looked liked very fine scratches that are a couple of millimeters from the sides of the top screen. They are perfectly parallel with the sides of the screen and line up perfectly with the edges of the "frame" around the lower the screen. The only explanation I can come up with is that the "frame" of the lower screen makes contact with the upper screen when the 3DS is closed.

I'm liking Pilotwings Resort, although my total playtime once it's completed will probably be under 3 hours. I'm glad I picked up Ghost Recon, given the glowing comments in this thread. I think I'll finish Pilotwings before I start it, though.
Even more shocking, my entire software library is Ubisoft. I got Shadow Wars and SSFIV with the console, but got really bored of SF really quickly ( I like unlocks, I like fake pretend rewards for my gaming time) so traded it in at Game and somehow got £45 back (I paid £40) so got Rayman.
Have to say I love Shadow Wars, like everyone here, but I also love Rayman. I never played the 2nd one and the 3d really works in a wonderfully subtle way for platformers. Very similar to how zelda looks if you get a chance to see it in real life.
Girlfriend bought Monkey Ball, and while it's fun, as Monkey Ball always is, there's not a whole lot to it, once I finish shadow wars/ rayman, not sure what to get next, any suggestions? Torn between pilotwings, ridge racer, and lego, unless something else good comes out in the next month.
My most played 3DS game has been...the sound program. I've just been too busy to dive into the actual games, I'm only maybe the sixth or seventh mission in Shadow Wars and have only played maybe 20 fights in SSF IV.
My high score on the header game however is looking pretty high.
I didn't get a chance to check it out and confirm his claims (sometimes he doesn't know what he's talking about), but the guy at work claimed that on your stats card in SSFIV, it has a tally for "cheap wins"?
If that's true that's some total bullshit. "If it's in the game it isn't cheap" has always been the whole Street Fighter deal.

Ignoring whether or not there are "cheap wins" using the definition of "If it's in the game it's not." sure is crafty for supporting it. If it's not in the game it's...nothing!

No, it's actually a win where the killing blow was successfully blocked but their health was so low they died from the damage they got through the block. It has nothing to do with the beginner mode cause it's in the console versions as well.
You can do some crazy, slightly implausible stuff with the shortcut buttons.

It's fully possible to do a cannon strike just as you jump with regular controls if you do the backwards quarter circle motion before jumping. I think it might be possible to spam it.
Spamming charge moves such as flash kick, on the other hand, is only possible with the lite controls and is complete bullshit.

First - how on earth did GAME pay £45 for a title that was released a week ago in great numbers at a retail of £40 (and was sold almost everywhere for £30)? It beggars belief - they must be deliberately suppressing new stock in some stores and selling second-hand 3DS games for £55-60 or something. I can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to fall for that.
Pilotwings is a great game, but requires a certain mindset to get maximum value out of it. You should either have a perfectionist streak to get full value from the missions (which grade you on dozens of different things and are really rewarding when you get a perfect score) or some compulsiveness to explore and track down every last collectable/unlock in free flight mode. If you're just blasting through each mission and getting a passing grade without touching free flight mode, the game won't last you very long.
Ridge Racer is also really good, and has more overt content - definitely on the weaker side graphically though. It's incredibly fast and fluid (even in 3D mode), and has an excellent 3D effect, but does suffer if you've played previous games in the series - almost all of the cars and tracks are simply ripped from previous games. The upside: there's a lot of them, and you do have that desirable steady stream of unlocks to keep you going.
I've never played a Ridge Racer game before, always felt spoilt by burnout/PGR/Outrun for my arcade-racing fix, love those games though, maybe I'll try to get both.
The £45 thing came about because they wanted to give me £30 trade-in, then said they'll do the £15 off a new game too that they usually do when you buy the console, I'm guessing they're trying to get some second hand stock, I'm not sure, but I didn't complain!
Also, AW has Nell as a military instructor. Instant win!

Caved in and bought a aqua blue 3ds, a carry case and SSIV. It's so fricking pretty and shiny. The battery is as bad as I've heard but at least it comes with a bitching charging crandle. And in terms of value I probably could have gotten a better deal if I bought it all a bundle but that's what I get for being an impatient dumbass. Still, $288 for the console alone is a lot better than the RRP here in AUS.

I was so excited to see it, though. Even though the 3D I saw on display wasn't that great, it was still glasses-less 3D and that counts for something

it's been said a lot, but not enough.
Shadow Wars is really fucking good.
but if you have any kind of fire emblem/advance wars/etc. experience, be sure to play on hard.
Especially the plot. The game is soo good though, and has a great sense of progression.
No way in hell Ubisoft made a decent game at a system's launch
Literally half my library is Ubisoft.

It has an excuse for invading a country and shooting dudes.
Given the quality of the actual game, this is perfectly okay.

That makes more sense.
Of course chip damage kills seem cheap despite being integral to how the game is played.

It has a better plot than the Advance Wars games, in my opinion.
On the one hand, the characters are much less endearing.
On the other hand, it is at least quite terse!
At least there's a progression of events and not just "oh man, everyone's attacking everyone, let's all battle to see who is the very best soldier!"
