So i'm anxiously waiting for the 3ds preorder to ship, and i see ads for screen protectors pop up everywere.

i have no experience at all with handhelds/ds, not since my old gameboy anyway, and i'm wondering: will my screen need.. Protection?

The 3ds will mainly be used around the house by my gf for playing Layton and other puzzle games. Light use.

Do the screens scratch easily under normal usage?

I never bought screen protectors for my DS, and mine is the older phat one and i still have no scratches on my screens at all and It was used quite a lot over the years. I also tend to take good care not to abuse the thing though.

I scratched my DS phat once the whole time Ive owned it. And that was only because a speck of dust was on the lower screen while I was playing Animal Crossing.

Wipe your screens before playing, keep your stylus tip clean, and dont do anything stupid and you shouldnt have a problem.

Clam shell designs usually protect the screen from random damage. I highly doubt a speck of "dust" scratched your screen bedlam, maybe a grain of sand or something.

Dust itself can be a ton of things. You'd be surprised.
Especially if you put the stylus on it and drag it across the screen.
I'd say its good advice but no need to be a clean freak though.
