Better graphics card?

I can't find any good comparitive data that explains which holds up better at this point: an Nvidia Geforce 7600GT or an Nvidia 6800Ultra GT OC from BFG...

I've got a choice between the two and most articles only discuss it in relation to cards of their own series.

I'm also a little confused as to the primary factors of a card's prowess.

The 7600GT benches higher than the 6800U. Don't remember where the article was, it was pretty old. I'd spend a few extra bucks and spring for the 7900GS, myself.

    Good to know!
However, my particular situation is that I already have a 7600GT and have received the 6800 card mentioned, which I will use in my girlfriend's PC. I was just wondering if I should poach it and give her my 7600GT. :P

If you have both cards then just run 3Dmark03 or newer and see which one scores higher.

That sounds like a plan but I was also worried about feature sets that 3dmark might not take into account. I'm also using Vista and fear that driver sophistication might also taint the results.

Might want to wait a month or so for the new 8xxx series midrange and lowend cards to come out. They're due in the next 4-6 weeks.

The only difference I see would be Shader Model 3.0 performance (they both support it, but the older card might not run it as efficiently), and the '06 version of 3Dmark tests SM3.0.

And if you'll be running Vista anyway then the results themselves won't matter as much as the difference between them in the same conditions.
