My diplomatic/friendly Hawke actually said that line before Anders ever did.. Anders was just standing there smiling after that one.
I guess your diplo Hawke is as dumb as Anders then, to assume that Thrask was ever asking for help killing the mages. :P
Nobody said diplomacy Hawke is a smart Hawke :P I prefer snark Hawke anyway, but for the sake of diversity.... (I miss my snark Hawke/Aveline/Varric/Fenris team, really).
Sadly, I agree. I played through as a diplo Hawke as well, and I found him to be a doormat.

you have your choice between these three classic archtypes:
I was planning to wardenize her, but that would leave me without a tank (archery rogue Hawke) so then I thought I should leave her, but I haven't killed the sibling yet. Is it worth going that route? How does it change things down the road dialogue wise?
With snark Hawke I did occasionally pick the nice options with family and such because I just couldn't click the middle option there (though I did in one or two inappropriate situations, I wasn't sure whether to cringe or laugh or do both) or picked the bottom option when dealing with slavers. With diplomacy Hawke I am genuinly trying to hit every top option and yes.. it has made my Hawke into a doormat.
I'm glad they didn't simplify equipment to the extreme degree of ME2, that's for sure. I don't like not being able to give my allies armor, but at least I can still equip them with other things, and have all the same slots as DA1 on my main.
If anything, DA2's system of giving random bonuses, makes inventory more complicated than the tier system in DA1. Especially since the lack of tooltips in the inventory UI makes you dig into both character sheet pages to tell how much of a difference it made, if it made one at all.

Sometimes I just wish I could just kill Feynriel when you first meet him and he's being held at knife point, just to get a reaction somewhat like this:
Chucking a knife into the slavers throat is a pretty good alternative end to those "negotiations" in my experience.
Ha, I was just making it a joke, anyway.
Varric's response is just enough "asshole" for me, honestly. "I'm smarter than you, and I just fooled you and took your money. I also have a manly chestbeard."
Are you guys just picking one of the three basic chat options and running with it through the whole game?
That might make me go a little crazy
Yeah. I don't get it either.
I mostly play a nice character.
Give aggressive responses when people are being dicks or generally uncooperative. And sometimes when I feel it fits the moment.
Joking/sarcastic comments usually when greeting party members or to lighten the mood.
Works out pretty cool actually.
That reminds me of one of my favorite moments.
Endgame spoilers:
After Anders blows up the Chantry and you ask your party members what they think you should do.
I don't know if it was because he was fully decked out in Champion armor or what but how MaleHawke delivers the "Opinions!" lines in such a stone-cold manner just really caught the tension of the scene.
I mostly stick with one of the three choices depending on what I planned for that playthrough but I had to make a few exception, especially with the smiley mask.

Shouldn't the Prince and the Black Market add-on already be available after the DR part, or am I missing something?
also, here's a small screenshot collection of my totally non-Ben Affleck Hawke (as a side note, Jester Hawke is absolutely the best thing in the game)
do the characters age over the years?

Naw, they don't.
Really, the only character you'll truly notice it on is Merril.
Who stays like 18 or whatever for 7 or so years.
I'm sure all the ephebophiles don't mind that though.
I was planning to wardenize her, but that would leave me without a tank (archery rogue Hawke) so then I thought I should leave her, but I haven't killed the sibling yet. Is it worth going that route? How does it change things down the road dialogue wise?
Some of the dialogue does change; for instance, the quest with Bertrand was way more personal, and Verric offers some interesting changes in dialogue when you arrive in Hightown when you arrive back from the Deep Roads. On top of that, it made All that Remains much more tragic, leaving Hawke all the only remaining family member, at least on my first play through.
So, I'd recommend doing it once, just to see what happens.
Respec archer Hawke as a duelist just for Deep Roads, if you have to, he's a passable tank at that point.

The duelist thing is actually a really good suggestion, I hadn't considered that. But I decided to go with Aveline and Bethany (with Verric, of course) which will lead to the path which you described in your spoiler.

Templar: "You found their bones? So they're dead then."
Hawke: "Well if they're not dead you'd best keep an eye out for several boneless women flopping around Kirkwall"
Templar: "You found their bones? So they're dead then."
Hawke: "Well if they're not dead you'd best keep an eye out for several boneless women flopping around Kirkwall"
He gets so perturbed with you when you say that line.
So just beat it as "agreeable" Sword and Board Hawk:
Mage Siding, avert your eyes if you don't want that spoiled
Man, first off: WTF ANDERS?! I had you with me this entire time, let you talk shit to my sweetheart Merrill about her nasty blood magic habits, and but up with your emo ass, woe as me crap just to have you betray my trust? How is that cool? I guess mission accomplished on the writing part of things if it evoked that kind of reaction. Such goosery.
Having Bethany back from the Wardens was the best thing for my mage-siding playthrough. I just kind of figured they had left town for Orlais or something by then. Quite the pleasant surprise that they dropped her back in.
I was afraid that Orisino was going to pull some blood magic, I was just really hoping he could be the beacon that the Circle needed....especially with Anders dropping the fucking ball like he did. Then, the last fight was epic feeling, especially as the tank. I had Meredith and all of these statues on me with the whole party doing their thing, it was a good time.
And then it stopped...with Lelianna? I was happy to see her but also sad that it's just "He's gone, like the Warden." Although I am glad she's not forgotten. Her last bit just makes me hope beyond hope for some sort of super party, Origins meets DA2 group for DA3....although I suppose either the Warden or Hawke would get the NPC treatment...or maybe at the beginning of the game you select either the Warden or Hawke and then you'd have almost two games. Only in my dreams...So many things I still want to know.

Letting the sibling die gains no merit whatsoever... unless you hate them for some reason. Leaving them behind means they can assist you a bit in the final battle of the game, and making the sibling a Grey Warden means they can rejoin your party at the end, and match up to your level, so you can spec them up to however you want (even though they don't get unique trees, this just means they can focus more on the general stuff).

Eh, don't really need any help for the end of Act 3. Interested in seeing the different dialogue though, even if it's only a slight difference.

I don't usually go full 100% on a conversation path/type but man.
I just had to ride the laughingface/charm option every time. So many good lines. I didn't find many instances after the shitland hills area at the beginning where I felt having snark-hawke was completely unrealistic.
Finished my rogue run the other day, which was a lot of fun. But holy shit endgame spoilers
Anders you son of a bitch, I was very nervous about the thing he asked me to help him do at the chantry but I did it anyways. I should have seen the signs that he was totally off his rocker then. I should have just said no. I tried to be somewhat neutral to both templars and mages, as I feel both sides have merit to what they want to do but both were also in need of some serious reality checking. But blowing up the fucking chantry? It took every little bit of restraint not to hit the "Kill this dude now" button on him. But I stopped myself because I realized it wasn't entirely "Anders" who made this happen, but an insane spirit inside of him which very much colored his worldview and turned him into a nutcase over the years.
Then as the game ended I realized I just let this absolute madman loose into the wild.
God damn it.
Also despite the somewhat cheesy ending to the quest,
All That Remains was a fairly unsettling quest in that once I heard the line about the flowers at the beginning I knew something bad was going to happen but I wasn't expecting the re-animator/silence of the lambs shit. Ugh, chills.
As someone who did a 60 hour week and a half session of them right before DA2 came out, I want to point out that There is a save game generator. I think it's in the OP

Not really. I try to stick to a personality but there are always times I deviate.

That way you will always have the nice voice though.
Snarky Hawke and angry Hawke are a lot of fun too, but you won't ever see them if most of your dialogue choices are the olive leaf/angel wings.
Sure the nice interjections don't stand out as much but I feel they tend to flow well in most conversations.
I agree with this with the exception of dealing with characters like Sister Petrice. Who deserves every snarky line you can throw at her.

I wouldn't say sad so much as unrealistic.

Also despite the somewhat cheesy ending to the quest,
I didn't import my Warden from Origins into Awakening, yet I remember importing my story from Origins to Awakening...is that right?
DA2 is telling me my Awakenings import doesn't have a complete DAO story
That isn't right. There is no importing into Awakening that doesn't bring your warden along with it.
They're so dreamy.
Well balls then. Looks like I'm doing Origins and Awakening over again. Needed to try the DLC anyway. Thanks for the confirmation.
Nope. Not in DA2 or Awakening.
This is what I thought I did...but honestly that was a long time ago.
