I didn't much enjoy Dragon Age 1, but I did think it was overall a very solid RPG, at least worth a playthrough. Dragon Age 2, however, is a serious step back for Bioware and in general for RPGs. Bioware used to be the studio that brought us classics like KOTOR and BGII, all were very solid games with strong core RPG elements. The opposite can be said of Dragon Age 2. DA2 is merely a hack and slash adventure game for players with ADD. If you want a game where you can hold x, or randomly mash 1-9 on the keyboard and see cool effects while your character jumps around the screen spastically, DA2 is for you. This game is an attempt to stream line the RPG into something a 10 year old can sit through. Congratulations Bioware, you have successfully killed the PC RPG. I will say the graphics are improved from DA1, but considering you spend 99% of the game in the same city, this improvement does little. Kirkwall, the main city, is barren and empty, not to mention pristinely clean. The entire area seems like a tile set with very little to see or do. The worst part is the sheer linear style of gameplay. Remember NWN2 where you are free to roam and discover? Yea, that's gone. Dragon Age 2 is more like Fable, where you walk from point A to B along a predetermined route. It's essentially Mass Effect in Medieval times. The conversations feel forced and anti-dramatic. Everything feels cheesy, and the main character, Hawke, has an annoying British accent and in general sounds like a wimp. This is a game that you will playthrough maybe once, considering it's short, and then never play it again. Honestly, the amount of DLC whoring that Bioware and EA has come up with is sickening. I'm all for developers making money, but now it looks like Bioware is just using their name to hype their games and sell max amount of DLC possible. As you can see, even critics are saying this a massive step backward from DA1. If this game were made by any other studio other than Bioware, the scores would be even lower.
God, it sounds so terrible.
But is it?
No
Okay, what may we encounter on our journey through Hawke's life?

Perhaps you like Hat? Is good hat, yes?
Bah, you know nothing of hats, little man from the Jersey Shore.
All other Hawkes are inferior.
What is best in life, Varric?
Ladies, I assure you there's enough Hawke meat to go around.

Just so y'all know, I'm still soliciting feedback on the game.
I've started to go through it all. There is a metric ton of it.
However, I still want more! If you want to give me some constructive criticism, PM me and I'll give you my work e-mail so you can send me insulting messages and use internet detective skills to figure out who I am in the real world.
Then tremble at my hitherto unexpected beard.
I guess you should PM him your sexiest feedback.
Romance Stuff:
In Dragon Age II, Hawke (male or female) can pursue a heterosexual or homosexual romance. There are five companions who can be romanced: Isabela, a rogue pirate captain; Merrill, a young Dalish elf; Anders, an apostate mage who was formerly a Grey Warden; Fenris, an elf who was a former Tevinter slave; and Sebastian, a DLC companion. No other companions can be romanced.
It is possible to sleep with all four companions (obviously not including Sebastian) in a single game. Sleeping with either Isabela or Fenris does not prevent the development of other romances, but sleeping with either Anders or Merrill and subsequently asking them to move in will deactivate the romance flags of all other characters, and remove critical flirt lines from their dialogue. However, if at the end of the cut scene where you sleep with them, you choose the breaking heart option to indicate that it was merely a one-night stand, you may continue with other romances. As Sebastian's romance has the prerequisite of never initiating a flirt option with any companion or NPC character, he can never be simultaneously romanced.
Sebastian will never sleep with the player. He is a chaste romance.
All love interests, except Sebastian, may be romanced by either gender.
After a romance is successfully completed, the love interest will receive a new outfit (this does not affect anything but look).

How good is the princely fucker? Worth dropping $10 on?
He has about the same functionality as Varric being a ranged rogue.
He's got a nice personality and decent personal quest. He's a straight laced dude who was basically raised to be a holy man.
He integrates nicely with everyone and the ending has more depth with him involved. I'd say it's worth the $10, but I have no idea what the value of money is anymore.
Have you seen my gold lace sheepskin clown pants I bought yesterday?

I often wish I had a computer that could run DAO and DA2 just so I could mod the appearance of armor, robes, weapons and whatnot. (assuming that can be done with relative ease)
I always wanted to use Guts' 'Dragonslayer' sword from Berserk. I imagine someone out there has created that for the game.
I demand to know why there's no band called "The Boob Sliders".
Plan better
How do you know there isn't?
Why I fear the ocean.
I'd like to fiddle with it, and then diddle my creations.
Vsove, I demand a toolset.
Because they would obviously be an indie nerd band, and I am all upons all of indie nerd bands
All of them.
If one does get released, it won't be for a while.
Toolset = lots of programming time, and programmers are a scarce resource at the moment.
I know people still want to do it, though, just a question of when/if we have the people necessary.

I shall misquote you in my blog that no one reads.
When you say it like that I can see putting it off for however long it takes. I'd rather you guys spend that time and energy on more content.
It seems to be having a slightly better launch than Origins. Despite all of the made up negative bullshit that was all over the internet.
I don't think there was even any indication in the Awakening Epilogues that suggested the two of them had any real personal interaction afterwards.
And neither character really has any presence or relevance in Witch Hunt or the other DLCs that came afterwards.
I'm pretty sure it's something they didn't have planned at that time.
Is there a band called Brek Bannin and the Rejects, then?
Always been curious about that.
Why I fear the ocean.

Holy shit.
The final words with Hawke's mother were virtually the only instances when I didn't choose the sassy/charming options. Well, except for the very first option where you say something like, "I always show up just in time to save the day."
But the rest? It felt like a good moment to have my sassy Hawke finally break down and be sincere.
And I love that whoever you're romancing will come over to comfort you. Mass Effect's romances always felt a bit one-sided to me. Shepard was this god-like being who never had personal problems and whose job was to "solve" the psyche of the potential romantic interest. It's nice to see that DA2 takes a slightly more balanced approach.
Unless you mean in the Deep Roads, then yes she dies in the Deep Roads if you bring her. (Unless you bring Anders as well)
So wait, is the game like ME2?
that is just the ending to act one, out of a mighty three acts.
man your siblings look fucked up
I'm only a few hours into this, but so far I'm really enjoying the party banter, and I find that the cutscenes are much more dynamic and interesting to watch than they were in DA:O - Isabella's introduction and recruitment quest, for example, had some very good work in them. I also appreciate that I always feel like I have something to do, and that (for now, at least) I want to do it.
I'm also seeing some of the elements that people are less happy with, but I haven't yet decided how I feel about them.
Also: maybe it's just the French accent throwing me off, but is the Chantry Seeker who interviews Varric voiced by the same actor who did Leliana?

The biggest problem I have is clicking something across the room, and then a SPLIT SECOND before my character makes contact with said object, party banter starts and then get instantly cut off and nothing I can do will bring back that dialogue ever
One for Aveline flat out doesn't drop on the dude it's supposed to be on. That's just a straight up glitch, they know about it, and I'm sure will be in the next patch.
The other one is for Varric and it's a complete DURP move on whoever set up some quest chains, plot flags, and decided where items would pop.
Details:
So Varric's upgrade is tied to a quest involving the Champion coming across Nathaniel's sister Delilah. She lays out a story about her brother going into the Deep Roads on a mission for the Grey Wardens and you must find him blah blah blah. On this mission you find him, he tells you about the mission, how they got info from Varric's crazy Lyrium idol mindfucked brother, and that other Wardens in his group got split off and may be alive.
So you go find them, you could meet up with your sibling if they became a Grey Warden (in my case Bethany because I hit hit dudes in the face with my gigantic 2H sword of death), and there's a chest down there with a Varric armor upgrade HOORAY!
That is if you
A) Didn't kill the Architect in Awakenings. For some reason part of Nathaniel's quest is tied to there being a possible fight between normal Dark Spawn and those capable of speech Dark Spawn that follow the Architect or some shit. If you killed the Architect, the entire quest won't trigger. Instead you get a quest in Act 2 called Fool's Gold where you save some dwarven brothers who are trying to strike it rich following in your expedition's foot steps.
Did Nathaniel even live? If you took him with you at the end of Awakenings, it's all cool, he lives. If not, depending on what you did to upgrade your keep could influence how shit went. In my game he stayed behind to defend and the flavor text at the end to wrap up stuff says he lived and had led the final push that turned the battle from fucked to win, regaining his honor and being a hero. Good on him. He can also die horribly I guess. That would be bad, and hard for you to find him years later in the Deep Roads for a quest I guess. By the way, even though he lived in my imported game history, he was still flagged as dead because either I had killed the Architect or because I didn't take him with me. It doesn't matter I guess. He's flagged as dead or missing or who cares, no quest trigger for you.
C) By the way, if you get Fool's Gold and you complete it, you can never, ever do Finding Nathaniel for whatever reason. They're linked somehow in the plot log. If you're on PC, you can go into the console command list and debug the plot to just give you the quest Finding Nathaniel. You never talk to his sister, but the quest is in your list and you just go to the Deep Roads and get your adventure on.

The cutscene for the High Dragon is still pretty awesome as a Mage though.
They seriously need to do a Varric centric game. Varric and Sandal buddy cop movie.
