Heya, I've got a small group of friends (like 6) heading up out of Sedalia, MO to the Cross Country Super Trip most likely. I don't know what the details yet are exactly, but feel free to keep in touch. We're definitely nerd friendly and cool people. I'll be around on the CCST thread when it gets started mostl likely as well.

Hi, I'm Cat, and my friend Apalla and I are planning (not for sure but we're very hopeful) to attend PAX this year ^^.
We're very excited and nervous at the same time. I have never been to a gaming con (though I have been to an anime con in South Dakota), and I had some questions:

Apalla and I are under 18, will we be kept out of some panels/gaming?
Where in the area can you find the cheapest food?
Around what time does it start on Friday?
When does it end on Sunday?
    How many people cosplay?
    Is there a dealer room?
How much money should I bring to the convention center itself?
What's the age demographic here? Are there alot of people our age (14-17)?
Will we be kept busy the entire time?
What can Apalla's parents do while we are at PAX? (One or both of them is coming to Seattle with us)

Your help is greatly appreciated ^_^

Apalla and I are under 18, will we be kept out of some panels/gaming?
Sixth post of this thread, bottom line.
Where in the area can you find the cheapest food?
    Try this thread: http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=140607
Around what time does it start on Friday?
When does it end on Sunday?
Very first post of this thread. But it starts at 10am Friday and ends at 7pm Sunday.
    How many people cosplay?
Not quite as many people per capita as a typical anime convention, but still a decent amount. This is the cosplay thread if you want to see what others are planning: http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=129084
    Is there a dealer room?
Yes, it's referred to here as the exhibitors hall.
How much money should I bring to the convention center itself?
That depends on if you plan to buy anything or not. I would at least have enough for food at any given time. I don't buy much in the way of merchandise myself, so I am not sure beyond that. Many of the companies in the expo hall give away things, but may also sell games, books, etc.
What's the age demographic here? Are there alot of people our age (14-17)?
There are people of all ages at PAX. While the average age might be slightly above that, I don't think you'll have trouble finding people within that age-range.
Will we be kept busy the entire time?
Yes. Unless the majority of PAX doesn't interest you.
What can Apalla's parents do while we are at PAX? (One or both of them is coming to Seattle with us)
Seattle is a big city with tons of stuff to do, so I am sure they can find something, if they don't want to be at PAX. Some suggestions from earlier in this thread were to visit the Pike Place Market, Experience Music Project/Sci-Fi Museum, Museum of Flight and The Space Needle.

I've been wanting to go for years, and finally the planets aligned for me this year (i.e. I have money). So, I'll be packing up the little red wagon, driving up from California to annoy friends for four days and drag them with me.

Would it be worth it to bring a box of Magic the Gathering cards (Approx. 1000 cards) for trading purposes, or just to bring a few decks for playing purposes?

I know the official schedule for 2011 has not yet been released and will likely not see the light of an LED until mid- to late-July at the soonest. However, I know that the old schedules (or at least PDFs of them) are "out there". Would it be possible for someone to PM me a link to the 2010 schedule? I'm trying to convince a few friends to buy a pass and they want to see what kind of events go on during the weekend before making the commitment.

    Thanks!!

Did some digging on Google, found the old Expo Hall map:
    http://prime.paxsite.com/expohallmap.pdf

Based on that URL, I then guessed that "schedule.pdf" would be the right answer, so here you go:
    http://prime.paxsite.com/schedule.pdf

The schedule is from 2009, does anyone have the 2010 one? I'm not sure which year the Expo hall map is from. I haven't been to PAX yet, but I have been to CES and E3 (so the Expo floor looks small by comparison, but PAX will obviously have much more to do outside of the Expo floor.)

I'm registered for PAX and looking to book a (cheap) hotel, preferably somewhat close to PAX. This is difficult though, since I have no idea where in "Downtown Seattle" PAX is going to be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D

(Or if anyone has a spare bed I could rent for cheap, that would be cool too. I'd even pay for rides to PAX, woo!)

As BigRed suggested, the answers are in the original posts: Washington State Convention Center

And there is a hotel room share thread. It's stickied. Should be adjacent to this one.

To be honest, it varies from year to year, but the amount of time it takes from open registration to selling out three-days shorten each time. Best suggestion to purchase as early as possible.

You have a the very least a month. If you have Twitter--or even on the forums here--some (or a lot) of folks will inform us if there are less than fill-in-the-blank number of three-day badges left.

You do indeed still have time, but I just did some math and it looks like tickets are selling even faster than before, I highly suggest picking up passes before the end of July.

This is going to be my first time going to Pax. I checked the first page and didn't see anything relevant to question, I apologize now if it is and I missed it. I read somewhere, I think it was the Advice for Newcomers thread, that you should drink lots of things like Odwalla, Gatorade, and other drinks like that during Pax. What are the rules on drinks in the WSCTC?

Also, most of the hotels I've stayed at and brought my console to had a Tv that you couldn't plug into. Does anyone know if you play on these? Specifically the Sheraton.

    Thanks.

As long as you're not selling them, you can bring your own food/drink into the WSCTC within reason. The main reason people mention those drinks is that it's very important to stay hydrated. Most people aren't used to the sheer amount of water loss from walking around a con ALL DAY.

Just some insight on personal experience:
Panels at PAX run the gamut from 1 guy sitting behind a table in front of a crowd with a microphone talking about stuff and fielding q&a to live plays being acted out, and industry pros demo'ing gameplay and such. The table is provided, the mic is provided. No idea about costs, but for most panelists, not much setup is required.

i would go ahead and buy a pass. there will be no shortage of people needing a pass once they sell out.
last year was our first year enforcing, and we had bought passes ahead of time. we sold them once we found out we made it in less than a week.
