PAX PRIME 2011 Information and FAQ (READ THIS FIRST, THEN ASK ALL QUESTIONS HERE)
Posts
Heya, I've got a small group of friends (like 6) heading up out of Sedalia, MO to the Cross Country Super Trip most likely. I don't know what the details yet are exactly, but feel free to keep in touch. We're definitely nerd friendly and cool people. I'll be around on the CCST thread when it gets started mostl likely as well.
We're very excited and nervous at the same time. I have never been to a gaming con (though I have been to an anime con in South Dakota), and I had some questions:
Apalla and I are under 18, will we be kept out of some panels/gaming?
Where in the area can you find the cheapest food?
Around what time does it start on Friday?
When does it end on Sunday?
How many people cosplay?
Is there a dealer room?
How much money should I bring to the convention center itself?
What's the age demographic here? Are there alot of people our age (14-17)?
Will we be kept busy the entire time?
What can Apalla's parents do while we are at PAX? (One or both of them is coming to Seattle with us)
Your help is greatly appreciated ^_^

Very first post of this thread. But it starts at 10am Friday and ends at 7pm Sunday.
Not quite as many people per capita as a typical anime convention, but still a decent amount. This is the cosplay thread if you want to see what others are planning: http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=129084
Yes, it's referred to here as the exhibitors hall.
That depends on if you plan to buy anything or not. I would at least have enough for food at any given time. I don't buy much in the way of merchandise myself, so I am not sure beyond that. Many of the companies in the expo hall give away things, but may also sell games, books, etc.
There are people of all ages at PAX. While the average age might be slightly above that, I don't think you'll have trouble finding people within that age-range.
Yes. Unless the majority of PAX doesn't interest you.
Seattle is a big city with tons of stuff to do, so I am sure they can find something, if they don't want to be at PAX. Some suggestions from earlier in this thread were to visit the Pike Place Market, Experience Music Project/Sci-Fi Museum, Museum of Flight and The Space Needle.
Be the very best. Like no one ever was. http://paxpokemonleague.net
Hoooray!
Thank you.
I have my fingers crossed for this year...
I haven't seen much card trading going on, but definitely bring a couple of decks for playing.
faq updated.
Thanks!!
Did some digging on Google, found the old Expo Hall map:
http://prime.paxsite.com/expohallmap.pdf
Based on that URL, I then guessed that "schedule.pdf" would be the right answer, so here you go:
http://prime.paxsite.com/schedule.pdf
The schedule is from 2009, does anyone have the 2010 one? I'm not sure which year the Expo hall map is from. I haven't been to PAX yet, but I have been to CES and E3 (so the Expo floor looks small by comparison, but PAX will obviously have much more to do outside of the Expo floor.)
I'm trying to plan my flights, any help would be appreciated!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
(Or if anyone has a spare bed I could rent for cheap, that would be cool too. I'd even pay for rides to PAX, woo!)
And there is a hotel room share thread. It's stickied. Should be adjacent to this one.

To be honest, it varies from year to year, but the amount of time it takes from open registration to selling out three-days shorten each time. Best suggestion to purchase as early as possible.
You have a the very least a month. If you have Twitter--or even on the forums here--some (or a lot) of folks will inform us if there are less than fill-in-the-blank number of three-day badges left.
You do indeed still have time, but I just did some math and it looks like tickets are selling even faster than before, I highly suggest picking up passes before the end of July.

Also, most of the hotels I've stayed at and brought my console to had a Tv that you couldn't plug into. Does anyone know if you play on these? Specifically the Sheraton.
Thanks.
Email pax_panels@paxsite.com with your pitch! "
If I pitch an idea and it is accepted, does that mean I have to set it up and stay there all day or would somebody else do that? I only have an idea, not time or money to run a panel.
naw, just email them with your idea.
Panels at PAX run the gamut from 1 guy sitting behind a table in front of a crowd with a microphone talking about stuff and fielding q&a to live plays being acted out, and industry pros demo'ing gameplay and such. The table is provided, the mic is provided. No idea about costs, but for most panelists, not much setup is required.
If its just an idea shoot an email over to pax_panels@paxsite.com, if you were thinking of running a panel you would go to panels.paxsite.com and fill out the form there

The keynote and musical guests are announced during early summer, the schedule and panel content has traditionally come out the first week of August in the past few years.

Thanks!
i would go ahead and buy a pass. there will be no shortage of people needing a pass once they sell out.
last year was our first year enforcing, and we had bought passes ahead of time. we sold them once we found out we made it in less than a week.
more like is it a good idea to go watch a college football game on my own cos it'll be a new experience for me. plus i have no affiliation i just want to go to experience what it's like to be in the stands.
