desperaterobots, your paintings are excellent. i can't say much about the "chalkiness" just because you're taking the photos with an iphone, though. that's always gonna wash out/blur/noise the picture at least a little. i know my ipod does it. the blue orange one and the wips look great. the lighting confuses me on the blue orange one though. looks like his eyesockets are lit from the bottom and the rest of him is rim lit and lit from the top.
cakemikz, im not sure if you're still lookin for opinions on the thinlipped captain bro. but the tiny mouth, neatly parted hair and scary scar all kind of read pedophile to me, not whatever i usually associate with a "captain". that really only matters if you're trying to evoke something like that or just doing average people in wartime, i guess. damn good shit, regardless.

effective crosshatching is a mystery to me
Albert Einstein commission. Acrylic on a 16x20 Masonite board. Don't have a high-quality photo of the painting yet, but you get the idea.
If memory serves, I hadn't painted in acrylic since 2004. And I struggled with it back then, painting in color. This wasn't easy, but I found black and white much more controllable.
Total painting time was 8 hours [5 hours + 3 hours].
Thanks for comments guys. Typing on my iPad is a bitch so I can't reply in any great detail, but I forgot to post this thing, with one of my other WIPs on top.
Latest doodle from late last night. I think I'm really stuck in a rut with my ability/style. I have a feeling I'm stealing from somewhere, but I can't quite figure out where.

It might be that you're stealing from PIXAR... it looks very pixar to me...
Lines. If I could make one suggestion (because I suck) its lines. They're all wobbly and there is no variation.
WiP of some victorian girl, can't seem to get the shading on her top right so it's subtle enough but shows the glow of her pendant properly, also, manface? or is it okay?

Playing around with the idea of an abandoned normality maintenance station for a final project. I'm not fully satisfied with it, but it looks cool, I guess. Click for huge.

Why did you blank the eyes out? I think it would've been a good idea to draw them in earlier and use their placement as a reference point...just as you would any other major feature on the face.
I remembered reading about focusing on form, to keep from rendering details to soon. If I were to go in, I wouldn't stop. I'll keep what you said in mind. Thank you.
Practicing smaller. I don't want to bite off more than I can chew.
That Cruella looks great so far, and I can only imagine it will look cooler with the dalmatian pattern. However, you might want to clear up her left arm/hand before you add it, because it is already a little tough to figure out what is going on there. I only assume it is her left arm/hand because it is in the place that I would expect that to be. Other than that it looks awesome.
Jazzman that is rad! It's actually sort of fascinating because you didn't learn originally in 2D, but to see your 3D skills translate over to that is really cool.

I like what you got going on there Obi. I would clean up both her hands before going any further. I think you can get away with rendering them a lot clearer.

the skull-flame-thing is very nicely handled though.
DR- I am in love with the first one. I just wish the lower hands didn't all align so neatly, it ruins the organic curves in the rest of the comp.

To lessen (or increase, depending on how much of a nerd you are) the raditude, that is his D&D character in my ongoing campaign (3rd year now!)

I highly approve of not only that 2D animation, but also the Yes song at the end. Yes. Yes.
Blah blah. Done being deep. Light heart and charm.
