AWESOME YOU ARE AWESOME. You should do stuff like that with ink and then mail me one. I would totally be up for a trade if you think I could produce something you are interested in.
Oh awesome, yeah I just assumed it was digital because of the grey areas which were clearly digital. Yeah lets figure out a trade. What do you want? I can do creative stuff but god knows I am a lot better at drawing portraits and such.
I will be stoked with pretty much anything from your skillified hands. Even if it's a portrait of some random dude I'll be like "THIS IS THE COOLEST RANDOM DUDE I EVER SAW".
...And I am being hulked enraged by multiple things right now and I will destroy you

Making cityscapes like that isn't as hard as you might think. You can generally accomplish that by starting with one building, and thinking up variations on form from that building, working up the page toward the background. Keep the designs within a few constraints for a more unified looking city, or go nuts and throw in some powerlines and such for a more congested, absent-of-city-planners look. Using your imagination for that sort of thing can be kind of like starting a lawnmower. It takes a few pulls, but once it gets going, it doesn't take much effort.

So I have been debating creating my own webcomic for awhile now. I am not much of a writer but I really like drawing dwarves. So here is my rough for the first comic. Feedback appreciated.
Another forumer suggested instead of having him say anything at the end, that I should have him just throw a stick of dynamite into the river.
Is the guy supposed to be really, really, really short?...because that's how he looks right now, proportionally. If you're displaying these two characters side-by-side, you should make it so their heights are accurate, in relation to the other. Right now it just looks like you zoomed in on the guy and tried to make him taller than the woman...but look at the size difference of their heads and feet, even. It just looks a little bizarre.

I think you could stand to push the gestures a bit more here- playing the boulder-like, stoic angry dwarf against the reed-like, energetic elf. You've done a lot of face work in the rough here, but the body language/silhouettes should probably be doing more of the heavy lifting when it comes to getting across the emotions.
Quick redraw, separating the dudes in the first panel for a better silhouette read, and tried to get the body gesture more involved in the other two panels (I admit my version of the third panel is better in idea than execution, but...). I obviously went more cartoony with it than what you're going for, but the idea should still apply.
I was going to say virtually the exact same thing, and then I scrolled down and Bacon had beaten me to it. I wasn't thinking you'd have to go as extreme/cartoony as Bacon's example, and I personally even like the dwarf right now as is...but the elf can definitely exhibit a whole lot more emotion - not only in body language, but in his face...which isn't really showing much of anything, right now.
All dem figure-drawings of sittin'-there models! Put some emotion in that face! :P
Yeah that was some really quality help and I really appreciate it. I don't want my characters to be quite that animated but it really puts into perspective how far off the mark I am right now.
As far as the elf face! It's hard! I want there to be a sort of charming grit to the illustrations but with an elf that can be difficult to achieve, especially when you have to make him emotional. I can't go straight up cartoony with him or it will clash, but if I animate him too much he will feel cartoony no matter how I choose to render it. Its a thin line to walk.
Cake, while I like the idea and your designs are somewhat interesting, it's a little cliche. The joke is even ultra tame. As a webcomic, what would really make it stand out?
Radar, I feel like you should put more thought into your linework and how you show form.
Try to make the lines and shading wrap more around the object, suggestive of its shape. For example, look at Cake's stuff a little farther up the page. Right now it's reading as more than a little flat.

Cake's stuff a little farther up the page is digitally valued and not in pencil, which tends to round out more as it can be blended a bit easier. I know what you mean about wrapping lines around figure. Will do for next time.
I was trying to draw an "evil" version of Kuo from Infamous 2 in Alchemy, and overthought everything. If you don't actually think of it as being anyone in particular, it looks nice, though.
First attempt at coloring in a non-monochromatic way. Pushed my values. Used complimentary colors.....a cool white light meant warm red in the shadows.

Hmm. As well as shrinking the head a bit, I'd suggest turning the head back towards her front a bit, or turning her upper body clockwise a bit. The degree to which she's turning her head looks a bit neckbreaking to me.
Edit: A bit.

Cakemikz: that looks great and also like a comic about Dwarf Fortress.
You should do comics about Dwarf Fortress.
Because not only would you get to draw dwarves to your heart's content, you'd also get 200% more popularity.
Yes.
EDIT: Also, in dwarf Fortress, throwing a stick of dynamite in the river would be the most subtle solution to the fishing problem.
Try making him redirect a river of magma to the water instead?
and here's some more creatures for good measure. Thanks to Chico for the scribbletip!

I shaded in photoshop though. :P
I'm selling prints at this little show next week, but I could whip you up a cakemix original if you like!
Also I fucking love all your work, so I would be interested in any of it!
More WIP.

Cake, I say go for it!

Mm, probably should have made a grid digitally and printed it out instead of hand-making it, huh. Duly Noted.
Quick little still life. I haven't done one in forever and I'm rubbish at rendering metal, so this was pretty fun.
mental note: shrink dat head
that looks like Chiana from Farscape
also why is everybody suddenly talking about Farscape!?!?
it is freaking me out.
edit: ok googled - lil' bits, I guess

Now that I look at it again it's really blurry...
Bah. Going back to my pen.
edit: oh yeah, ND. Thank you, you are right. I will try to fix that weird shortness.
