If Blizzard can stick some wings on the creature design from the Broderick-starring Godzilla movie and call it original, I think Wakka's in the clear employing a somewhat similar color palette.

All I mean is that because of the conceptual, color pallete, and posing similarities, It seems to me that a lot of savvy viewers will be reminded of this Deathwing illustration, especially because of Cataclysm's current presence within the zeitgeist. Of course your design is different and it has a different narrative going on, I'm just mentioning for your benefit what it made me think of.

Iruka I'm going to use the nickname "Rook" for you from now on
because it is a suitably badass sounding name

also Wakk's wyvern looks almost funny because it looks like a flight bird chasing its prey around on the ground

Thanks for the draw-over, Tam. That right shoulder was really bugging me, but I was too lazy to fix it.

Anyhow, I'm gonna call that done, and move onto something else.

I'm no good with color, that's why I'm gonna go to school

    COUGH COUGH COUGH

Fake Edit: What the shit, don't buy it at that price though. Find it at a local bookstore or wait until a reprint brings it back down to the original $25 or around there, that price is ludicrous for a book that only came out a couple months ago.

I bought that fricken book like two months ago when it wasn't sold out and it still hasn't shipped from Amazon. :x

The majority of the information in the Color and Light book can be found on Gurney's blog. Obviously having the book is much better and everyone should make an effort to pick it up, but for the time being if you can't get a hold of it get over to the blog.

He also does lectures all over the place covering the same stuff, so you should see if he is doing one nearby. They usually cost very little and they are awesome. Actually he came to our school last year and did the lectures (though I had already seen them twice, once at LAAFA and another time in Mass. at the Illustration Master Class) and then he made a blog post about the school which was pretty cool.

Thanks for the link, Ryan. I tend to learn much faster from books as opposed to Web sites for some reason. I think it's easier for me to concentrate away from the computer screen. There's some good posts on there though. Thanks!

wakkawa, that depth of field unfocussed look on the wings looks great. Really brings the head into focus.
The lower bulge on the neck, underneath the skull, looks a bit wonky though, or is that just me?

Its nice to see you branch away from your routine work, WCK, this and the pirate are pretty refreshing. You might want to look at some horse skulls though, you can stylize it but having the two nose holes (an so far up) just looks weird.

I redid the banner on my webpage real fast, I needed to print business cards and I was like, Im not going to print new shit with these shitty skulls:
