Sivir is really item-dependent, which makes her pretty swingy. With items she's still crazy devastating, but now she needs to actually do well to get a good item set.
Did you guys not think she was overpowered before? When you talk about un-nerfing her q, do you really mean undoing the nerf?
It is apples to oranges only because you are comparing a pusher to a ranged carry. However it is not apples to oranges since you are trying to equate Sivir as a ranged carry which she isn't anymore.
Also where is all this Caitlynn hate coming from? She is easily top 5 ranged carry with Ashe, Corki, Ezreal and Urgot.
She has no steriod, her escape is very weak, her traps are easily avoidable, and her ult needs a buff. Her base stats are a little lacking (though this patch should help). She needs work.
No steriod??? Her escape is amazing 1v1 except against Olaf/Yi but every ranged carry escape is useless against them. Her traps aren't there for CC, you shouldn't be using them for this purpose. Her ult does need a buff I'll give you that. However, she has the longest range of any ranged char until about a level 15 or 16 trist I think and Headshot is amazing for poking/denying xp early game.
yeah I don't know how you can compare the auto-attack damage of a champ without a real steroid like Ashe or Cait to one with a real steroid like Trist's Q or Yi's E or (arguably) Sivir's W
Doesn't make any sense
edit: a steroid skill is one that increases auto-attack dps over a sustained period

So, you want to use the traps for damage? Still avoidable. Headshot is NOT a steroid, because early game you are doing around 100 damage after resists every 4 to 8th shot. With base attack speed as low as it is early game, she should be getting harassed by the opponent because opponents should be able to do more damage then her.

Traps are used solely to avoid ganks, much like Nidas except Nida can spam hers and hers don't root. Never said Headshot was a steriod mainly because I didn't know what the hell was meant by steriods. No ranged carry going against Cait should be able to harass her considering her significant reach advantage on everyone.
yes, but it's even more pronounced with cait because of the delay before firing
I feel like this makes it less useful in the middle of a straight up fight, as well (compared to Ez or Ashe, for instance)
I find her Q really predictable, though I can't put my finger on why. Maybe because there are only a few ways to use it? Usually I see her walk closer for a while and then I know she's about to Q and I dodge it.
I'm better at predicting her Q than Anivia's, to be sure.
I feel the same way. I'm still pretty low-level (14) and have only been playing for a few weeks but I think I've been doing fairly well with a few characters and winning games by choosing whatever champ will fill out the team. Trist if there's no carry, Amunu if there's no tank, Sivir if there's no support (but she's feeling weaker as games last longer...) I also had some fun bouncing folks into towers with Alistair too.
you shouldn't be laning amumu. he is p much the worst laner in the game
also sivir isn't a support champ, and is also a late game champ (she's incredibly powerful at the endgame when she's farmed)
also what sort of level 14 games are you playing when there's no carry? my times pre-20 were defined by "everyone choose a carry"
What do you suggest for Amumu, then? Jungling?
I'm honestly curious, because having just picked Amumu up, I've definitely found his laning ability to be awful.
My team: Renekton (me), Jarvin, Shen, Tristana, and someone else I forget.
Their team had something like: Ashe, Cho, Teemo, and 2 others.
Javin and I went full tank.......and Shen went full dps + banshee and merc treads. He had like a bloodthirster, trinity force, the works!
It was pretty hilarious watching him kill squishies.
Jarvin and I went full tank, so I guess this Shen decided to go AD, even though Shen went AD before we went full tank. So it was pretty hilarious but worked well. I usually initiated because they couldnt stop the Croc of doom and usually wasted their ults on me, then I go run away while my team cleans up.
I had something like Merc Treads, Sunfire, Randium's, Force of Nature, Spirit Visage, and Black Cleaver.
I just hope Shen doesnt think that AD shen really works all the time :P

Tried him out for like 5 minutes because I had to leave the game cause of evil wife.
But anyway, I emailed Riot this morning asking for a refund.

i think her q was op before, and with it she was an excellent champ that had a really great niche (i wouldn't necessarily say OP since tf has been and will always be better at pushing than she is)
when they nerfed her q (which she needed), they did it far too hard and now it's a useless skill. frustrating

Shen is super awesome. Clutch ults, enough harassment that people scream OP, blink taunts, and a shield? Nothing like ulting onto a Tower diving ulting ww, taunting the target as the ult ends, killing the target, and getting your ass out of there at like 50% health.

You can just build him like a tanky deeps.
You do realise Shen has better base attack speed and growth than carries like Tryndamere?
flip out and kill people
You can build almost any character with non terrible attack speed and growth as a tanky dps and it'll work haha
anything which confers movespeed to your whole team represents a massive advantage. People mis-play her ult all the time. Nobody really seems to understand that it's a short-ish cooldown group ghost, and as such represents a "win team fight for free" card if you play it right.
Anyone have any success mid vs Caitlyn as Teemo? I went against her several times this week and always they just auto attack creeps and push to my tower where they can shoot me or the tower. Meanwhile I can't harass her without getting shot a bunch of times and her auto attacks do more damage then mine.
Once I get shrooms it's a bit easier to farm. The obvious answer is ganks, but in solo queue you're just praying for a decent junlger and those prayers go unanswered almost always.

dude he's probably the funnest tank in the game IMO, maybe Singed takes the top fun factor, but Shen is very close behind. EXACTLY what Arcanis said, you feel like a fucking super hero.
You were also that guy who said Yi sucks and you would never play him.
It seems like you have some type of syndrome where you judge things before actually trying them.

Just shoot Q at her ass and shoot her a few times. Recycle.
Literally the only thing you should be worrying about with Caitlyn is her Q and even baby retards can dodge that.
But really, just hit Q on her, auto attack 2-3x and back off. That's how you harass Caitlyn as Teemo. Just watch for her Q and/or bait it and you can rape her.

What do you suggest for Amumu, then? Jungling?
I'm honestly curious, because having just picked Amumu up, I've definitely found his laning ability to be awful.
Amumu is a rad jungler depending on your ELO and how well you know your teammates. I have probably more games played as Amumu than any other character and all but like, 3 of them were jungling. So here is the thing. Amumu jungles fine, and ganks decently at level 4 to amazing at level 6 and beyond. The trick is you are really susceptible to people fucking with you in the jungle, because you spend most of your jungle wandering around at moderately low health and if you don't have blue buff you basically suck. So if you know your teammates are going to cover your ass, or you just aren't high enough ELO to get hassled every game (I'm not) then you'll have smooth sailing.
If you do get fucked with, my personal advice? Ward your shit and buy a madreds. Yeah I know, it's not a tank item (well, minus a small amount of armor). Nonetheless, every game I get counter-jungled and fall behind, buying a madreds and ganking hard has caught me back up.
Here be a whole lot of unsolicited advice.
I personally run move speed quints (been thinking of switching to hp, but I like the extra speed), mpen reds, flat armor yellows, and currently trying flat mr blues (used to run mp/5 blues). I run 0/19/10 masteries with a free point to put into whatever. I bounce back and forth between a point in imp smite or just sticking it in something in the defense tree.
Skill order w > e > e > q > e > r. after that, priority is r > e > w > q. Take ghost and smite.
First buy: Cloth armor and 5 health pots. Start at blue and harangue your mid into leashing the golem for you (leashing means having him hit the golem once before you do and then run off allowing you to get a bunch of free hits). Be auto attacking the big golem and drink a potion immediately when you take damage. Try to smite the golem so it kills it, should be at 450 health. Turn w off when the first little dude dies to start recharging mana. Drink another potion the second your first wears off. Note that if your mid leashes from the other side of the trees, the golem will path into the bushes. If this happens make sure you are in the bushes as well or it might reset.
Toggle w back on and spam tantrum on the wolves, be sure to auto the big wolf. Turn off w and stop tantruming when the first tiny wolf dies. Down another pot when the second one wears off and head to wraiths.
Auto the big wraith, turn on w as you move in, and spam tantrum until they are all dead (everything should die on the third tantrum, or close to it). Toggle of w and dead to lizard.
At lizard, wait for 200 mana before engaging. Down a pot if under 4 bars of health. Auto the lizard, turn w on and spam tantrum until you get down to around 50 mana, smite at 500. Turn off W and head to mini's.
At minis, wait for 150 mana and down your last health pot if you are under 3 bars. Turn on w, spam tantrum, you get the idea. When the minis are dead, B.
Second buy: boots 1, 2 wards, 2 health potions. You should be watching your lanes while you jungle in general, since it doesn't require too much attention as amumu. Take any gank opportunities present. Gank if you know you can get a kill. Gank if you need to force someone to blow summons like ghost or flash. Ward dragon. If there is no enemy jungler, steal their blue. If all your teammates are stupid jerks and have lanes pushed up, just keep jungling as best as you can. Watch your team. If any of them look low or if they die, you need to stop what you're doing and get out there to help. Either by holding the lane for them or ganking.
I'll throw out a build order here that I use in 8/10 games that I play in but I really want to emphasize that most games, you're the tank. If you pick amumu, your team will assume you are tanking. And saying in chat, "Ap amumu" isn't going to matter because idiots don't read that shit. The first key to being a good tank is adapting your build to suit the enemy team comp. There is little point to rushing a sunfire against a team with one AD who manages to go 0/2 before hitting level 6. Likewise if their vlad goes like, 6/0 you may want to get MR a fair bit sooner. Don't get pigeonholed into following a strict build. all that said, this build serves me well for "average" games.
Item buys after the second > Sunfire cape > merc treads > Chalice > banshee's veil
After the second buy, I usually grab a chain vest next. It makes jungling easier. Next time back will be a giant's belt or a sunfire cape if ganks have been awesome. Sunfire cape is awesome on amumu for the same reason it is on garren, it's like a free rank on your W. It also gives you armor and much needed hp. I will sell my cloth armor to buy either of the parts or finish the sunfire as necessary. After that I finish my treads for the extra mr (buy a tabi against pure ad but that hasn't happened in ages) and obviously useful passive and then buy a chalice. Chalice is a controversial buy, but the main reason I get it is freedom. Other people on your team probably need that blue buff more than you, but amumu's life without blue buff or chalice is fucking terrible. Since chalice is fairly cheap and gives mr, I think it's a great buy. Sunfire, chalice and merc treads will usually have my sitting around 120 armor and 100 mr at level 11-12, which is pretty solid. After the chalice, I buy a banshee's veil over FoN. Yes I know, FoN is a better MR item than veil on virtually all levels. The thing is, Amumu's hp sucks. With a sunfire and banshees, my max hp at level 18 is around 2700. Without the banshee's, it's 2400 which is just too little for a tank imo.
After this, lots of options. Randuins is good if you need more armor, and the slow used right after your ult is brutal. Abyssal sceptre is fun times if you feel you are tanky enough as it gives more mr, ap, and provides some magic pen which will up your damage output nicely. FoN is great just in general as long as there is an ap or two worth resisting. Thornmail is hilarious against auto attackers (and don't listen to people who say that dudes won't attack you if you buy one. Most of the people who play this game will never notice). Guardian angel is basically a giant fuck you if you've been dominating and haven't died in awhile. Aegis of the legion is an amazing item to buy if nobody else on your team has one and probably my first buy after banshee's against a team with fairly even damage types. Glacial shroud (and frozen heart) are really solid for you against good AD characters. More mana, more slow, a fuck ton of armor, and much needed cdr.
Warmog's is an option, but not one I like. Hp by itself sucks without the mitigation stats to back it up, and by the time you've got the armor and mr to start wanting more hp instead, it's probably pretty damn late into the game. If you think the game is going to go long enough to make it worth your time, by all means grab one after the veil.
Typing all that has given me an idea or two that I will try next time I play Amumu. Mostly, I might try turning the cloth armor into a HoG before rushing the sunfire. It would slow the sunfire down a bit (and everything else really) but it would also let me get a FoN instead of a banshee's. The only problems with this are that the sunfire is it's strongest the sooner you buy it, and banshees is nice to have when you are initiating since it will block a CC and every time you can ult some chumps without having to blow your toss to get in is like christmas.
