Ohh, then I have no idea.

Maybe grab barrier and/or arcane shield. Merrill can be tricky to handle correctly.
    :winky:

Edit: DA wiki says you can get a lot of help from her armour upgrades.

It gets better when you get the health draining upgrade for Wrath of the Elvhen.

Also make sure you max friendship with her, and try to get her some Blood Magic items (+1 mana per health type stuff).

Merrill is like a tank so far. 50% armor from Rock Armor's maxed tree, a billion HP, and thus like 6 billion blood MP after gear, and constant light AoE damage + ensnare. It gets kind of ridiculous.

The problem I had with using Merrill as a Blood Mage was that I just didn't have enough different spells to use, so I was mostly still waiting for stuff to cool down. Should I be picking up spells like crazy to take advantage of this or should I still focus on improving existing spells?

To answer above questions, yes, I have her use her rock armor + armor upgrades and then she has Wrath of the Elven always active, which regenerates HP even with blood magic on.

As for picking up spells, I pretty much gave her all of her specific spells and then I filled out the Primal tree with her. I find that (especially with Anders providing buffs + heals), Merril can pretty much clear a room with Tempest + Wounds of the Past.

I'm not quite sure if the extra damage the party gets in Ele weapons is even worth the skill point, but Arcane Shield is good, especially after you get both upgrades and it gives your whole party +20% to defence and all the elemental damage resists. It's no Heroic Aura, but you take what you can.

Thought I would post this as a continuation of the Origins ultimate asshole playthrough someone posted (although I wasn't quite as much of an asshole as I could have been). Spoilered for long.
    Act 1
Told Mother to stop wasting time weeping over Carver
Told Aveline to abandon Wesley because we couldn't afford the liability, and then to put him out of his misery
Told Aveline to stop wasting time weeping over Wesley
(can't remember some of the ones here)
Told Bethany and Mother I didn't care about old family history
Told Varric that if Anders wouldn't talk about the Deep Roads maps, I'd wring the information out of him. Varric didn't like that for some reason
Was able to pick up the quest to kill the Amaranthine Conspirators because my Warden set Amaranthine on fire at the end of Awakening
The quest to kill the Swindlers selling fake Ashes of Andraste was unavailable because my Warden never killed the High Dragon, which destroyed the temple
Threatened Lirene to get her to tell me where Anders was
Upon first meeting Anders, told him all mages should be caged
Told Mother her mom was a bitch
    Called Gamlen pathetic
Referred to Magistrate Vanard as "old man" when getting the quest to deal with his crazy murderer son. He was not amused.
Told Anders I needed a Deep Roads map, not a "diatribe on your strange personal habits"
When doing the Loose Ends quest, told Pryce starving on the streets with his sisters was his problem, not mine. Took Athynriel's goods back and tossed the kid a coin on the way out
When talking to Varric in the Hanged Man, asked him if he had any war stories. He didn't like that.
Asked Isabela why I should care about her problems. She wasn't happy.
Told Keran's sister to quit crying and tell me what she knew about her missing brother
Told Anders to keep his personal problems to himself and that our relationship was strictly personal
Told Ninette's husband I found her wedding ring on her severed hand. He was upset by this for some reason...
Told Marethari I didn't have room for stray elves when she tried to get me to take Merrill with me up the mountain. I had to go get her anyway.
When meeting Merrill, Bethany told her I'm better at stabbing things than making conversation. Damn right!
Picked up a quest to help the werewolves from a woman named Clara in the Dalish camp (my Warden opted to slaughter Zathrian and his clan). Basically consisted of grabbing items out of boxes scattered around Sundermount.
Me (after doing Flemeth's amulet quest and talking to her): "That was useless." Her: "You're welcome."
Blackmailed Thrask about his mage daughter. He called me a monster. I decided to take it as a compliment.
Told angry elf guy I couldn't decide Kelder's fate and that he'd get what he deserved in the courts. Hah.
Decided to "let the courts sort this out" with regards to Kelder. His plea of "You should have let me die!" was most satisfying. Merrill and Isabela: +10 Rivalry
When I asked him about the pure ironbark, Master Ilen said I was disrespectful, impatient and foolish, just like any other shem. He's going to regret that...
Told Saemus to stop whining while rescuing him from mercenaries
Stabbed Idunna in the guts after I found out what she knew. Serves her right for mind controlling me.
Blackmailed the magistrate into paying double to protect his murderer son
Put a knife through the throat of the guy holding Feynriel captive, then sent Feynriel to the Circle
Huh. Found Sophia Dryden's dead possessed body walking around the Wounded Coast. Told her the Chant says "suffer not an abomination among you" and killed her. Too bad there wasn't an option to let her go...
Found Alistair drinking away his sorrows in the Hanged Man. I bought him a drink.
Approaching Arianni after sending Fynriel to the Circle: "Fynriel's at the Circle. Pay up."
Rescued Keran from the blood mages, then told Cullen he couldn't be trusted because he might still be possesssed. Cullen relieved him of his command and kicked him out of the templar order.
While doing the Finders Keepers quest, threatened to slit Aden's throat if he didn't tell me where the cargo was located. He told me.

    Act 2

First talking to Mother in the mansion: "It's been three years. Move on already!"
Told Sebastian not to think he's my first priority.
Made a deal with the sloth demon to give Feynriel to him in exchange for "power"
Told Marethari and Fynriel's mom that he was a monster
Told Anders to stfu when he tried to tell Marethari and Arianni what I did to Feynriel
Told Merrill I'd cut her if she ever tried to betray me again (I took her along to the Fade)
Stabbed Javaris in the back of the neck after tracking him down looking for the Qunari powder. "He bothered me."
Told Anders to "get over yourself so we can be done here" while doing the Tranquil Solution quest. He killed the mage girl. Uh, I mean Justice killed the mage girl.
Beat the crap out of the Coterie informant, then let Lilley kill him and dump his body in a ditch despite his begging me to let him go back to his family
Called Pol a coward for fleeing from Merrill and getting himself killed by the Varterral. -25 rivalry. Well, he deserved it!
Successfully made Merrill my bitch. Damn, that teddy looks stupid...
Told Lieutenant Harley I'd only help kill the Evets Marauders at the Wounded Coast if she paid me. Then I told everyone in her patrol that I'd report them as deserters if they didn't help me fight. Harley told me I'd make a fine captain. That wasn't the reaction I was hoping for, but whatever.
Blamed Aveline for Mom's death and called her a failure. You can make excuses all you want, bitch!
"Have you done something dumb again?" -To Sebastian during his Questioning Beliefs quest
Incessantly pushed for Sebastian to give up on the Chantry and take back Starkhaven. That guy is too hot to be celibate the rest of his life.
Told Varric to put an arrow through Bartrand's chest. He did.
Found Gascard DuPuis skulking in Darktown after Mom's death. He got a knife to the gut.
Found Alistair still drinking away his sorrows in the Hanged Man. This time Teagan showed up and said Alistair could come back to Ferelden. He stumbled out, hopefully right into being executed by Anora or something.
Came in shouting, "Everyone shut up!" during Aveline and Isabela's argument in my house
Told Anders all mages are dangerous during his personal quest. He took offense to this for some reason.
Handed Isabela over to the Arishok along with the book. Ah, the sweet sounds of betrayed shouting. "You haven't seen the last of me, Hawke!" Yeah, okay. Get in line, bitch.

    Act 3
Told Orsino to back off during his anti-templar speech at the start of Act 3.
Let the dog eat the burglar hiding in my wardrobe. Can't have those criminals thinking I'm easy to rob.
Handed Fenris back to Danarius. Don't let the door hit you on the way out!
Some elf in the Alienage overheard me talking about Gamlen's wallop mallet and gave me a note about it. My response: "Get back to your tree and leave me alone."
Told Evelina the blood mage I'd gut her for whatever it was she'd done. After I killed her, the two kids she was taking care of wondered how they'd survive now. I told them they'd think of something and walked out.
Denied that foofy French blood mage whose name I can't remember's request to let him fuck some girl in the Hanged Man before I turned him in to the templars. Somehow he still happily turned himself in to Meredith. Not sure if that was a bug.
Would have slept with Zevran during his quest, but Merrill told him to get lost at the end. Oh well.
Told Charade Gamlen is an ass and made her give me the gem, saying I didn't care about her problems. She decided Gamlen wasn't worth visiting based on the company he keeps and bailed.
Aveline informed me that she was planning on going back to Ferelden and rejoining the army. Well, uh, okay. The temperature in the room just dropped 50 degrees...
Found Keran with the templars on the docks during Best Served Cold. Told him I was turning him in and he got all scared and begged me not to tell on him to Meredith because it would kill his sister to lose him. I told on him to Meredith.
Slaughtered the mages and templars at the end of Best Served Cold, and told Cullen to have Alain questioned since he was working with blood mages. This was right after Alain said I was a good person. I had them drag Samson away for good measure
"Accidentally" slaughtered the whole Dalish tribe after Merrill's personal quest. I told Master Ilen he'd regret calling me just another shem!
Opted to kill Ser Agatha and the rest of the mage sympathizers at the end of The Last Holdouts. The law is clear - no mage sympathizing allowed!
Sided with the templars during the endgame, condemning my own sister to death. Well, she could have chosen to come with me.
Gladly sunk a knife in that bastard Anders's back.
Fought my way into the Gallows and told Meredith to stab Bethany in the back. She said she hoped it was worth it. It was.
To Meredith after the big reveal: "Turning the idol into a fancy sword won't save you."
Beat down Meredith and became Viscount. It's good to be the king.

    About the whole Feynriel thing...
Apparently, if you give him to the sloth demon during Night Terrors, you get a quest about it in Act 3, but I missed that somehow. Oh well.

You see her twice, that's hardly "everywhere" and she could be doing it for one of two reasons:

    1. She's trying to look super powerful to convince Hawke to do what she wants him/her to do.

    2. Varric is, under no circumstances, going to describe the legendary Witch of the Wilds as a dirty old lady in a frumpy dress.

    And anyway,
isn't it said at some point that at least one of the DA2 Flemeths is just "part" of her? If we're talking about some kind of personality shard...thing, it isn't unrealistic that its appearance be a little different from Flemeth Prime.

    For my part,
I figure there's just an offscreen Thundercats power-up sequence that the player isn't privy to. "Ancient spirits of evil, transform this decaying form to FLEM-RA THE EVERLIVING" and all that.
