yeah, maybe other brands/countries have better cream eggs, but Cadbury cream eggs are made of that cheap chalky chocolate (man I am on an alliteration kick today, I blame Stan Lee) and the syrup tastes to me like it's mostly corn syrup with a little artificial flavoring.

I don't think the restaurant people will be concerned that you might possibly be racist. I think they just want you to give them the dollars.

I bit into the cream egg and this sticky syrup sprayed out all over my hand. It was awful.

Are Creme Eggs in the US or Canuckistan made the same way as they are over here? Like, with decent chocolate and everything?

    Also, yes. Gurkhas are terrifying.

Honestly, not all American chocolate is bad. There's good American chocolate! But it's usually packaged as "premium" chocolate, in fancy wrappers. Some stores won't even carry it.

But most of the Hersheys/Mars/etc chocolate that you get at convenience stores is terrible. It barely qualifies as chocolate.

I thought it was just sucrose syrup with some flavoring? The interior "creme" is so foul. The chocolate is maybe Hershey's level, which isn't saying too much. I just don't get it that they are the beloved treat of [chat].

haps: Rittersport are actually fairly widely-distributed here in the states. Store chains like Trader Joe's carry a few varietals but we don't get the cool amaretto / irish creme / etc. holiday boozer ones. :(

edit: oh my fucking god I accidentally called them varietals

When American "premium" chocolate only just tastes as good as the "off-the-shelf" stuff that you can get in places like Britain, Belgium, Sweden and so on, you can't help but feel sorry for Americans.

I mean I make a chocolate cake where one of the early steps is boiling cocoa powder in condensed milk until you get a sort of semi-solid sludge that then goes in the cake batter.

And I always end up eating a little of that off the spatula, because never trust a skinny cook, and it isn't too bad.

Whenever I go to England to visit family I bring make a point of buying Kit-Kats, Rolos, Mars Bars, Milky Ways and other "you've got it too, but we got it better" brands to bring back to LA.

I have American friends now who cannot, shall not, will not eat American chocolate. My friend Michelle won't eat American Kit-Kats anymore.

I think that its much much more bitter then coffee. Take a really dark chocolate, say 70% cocoa. I think the other 30% is sugar.

I dunno, the "premium" chocolates can get very mild, or deep and bitter, or even salty and it's really nice compared to the sweetness overload of candy bar waxy stuff.

Vosges is my go-to example of really well-done American chocolate. Yes, it's Whole Foods-prices, but yes, the curry / sea salt / bacon / etc. ones are all worth it to sit down and really savor.

Fuck, now I want one. But they do stuff with ridiuclous cocoa percentages that are almost cooking chocolate levels of dark/unsweet.
