    Hersheys: the Coors of chocolate

I don't drink beer so I don't even know what that means.

Look, can someone make Mim a care package with:

    - a pre-rolled blunt of a connoisseur's sativa
    - a nice craft stout
    - a dark chocolate+bacon bar

It's clearly needed, as the rest of the world has failed her up to this point.

I don't think a stout would be the way to go, here. Everyone I know who isn't into beer thinks that anything more than Bud Light is too strong, I can't even imagine how a stout would rate. I feel like it's one of those things you have to work up to.

    Cider.

It took me a good year of drinking to realize that beer is actually pretty nice and I still can't stand stouts.

I was at Zed and Kistra's house, and their friend had this cider thing...it tasted like maple syrup.

The difference is American chocolate tends to be sweeter than every other countries chocolate I have had. And so far that is a lot of chocolate since I like to get at least one kind from a store when I am in a country. Its basically designed to American taste buds. Which tends to make [chat] turn its nose up to it I guess.

Personally I don't mind it. Not my favorite(Swiss is my favorite, fuck that shit is addictive). But I still get a dark chocolate milky way from time to time or a Reese's big cup. Because they are still good.

My friends in Japan have an obsession with skittles actually. I find it funny. Mostly because you can't buy skittles in Japan.

Oh, well when I bite into chocolate, I'd hope it'd taste sweet. What does it taste like elsewhere?

And I drink smirnoff cooler things...are those beer but flavored?

Taste like chocolate which has a flavor. Lots of flavor. Its pretty awesome. My mom and I are kind chocolaholics. We buy all different types of chocolates at local places that import. We have these awesome swiss thin things. Sweet yet slightly bitter and full of tastiness.

Will I have heard it before but do you have statistics on Americans cooking less than Europeans and such?

i don't right now. i think maybe i got it from michael pollan? also i think it was either Time or the NYT magazine ran a feature on grocery purchases in different countries, and americans overwhelmingly eschewed whole foods and went for pre-prepared foods or delivery.

i found some numbers on the generational decline of home-cooking, but that's not really the same as an international comparison.

Yep, I know. We just don't have many (if any!) Cadburry products down here.
I was very suprised to see some Ritter Sport chocolate in a seven-eleven in Boston!
    It's a local brand.

inexpensive ritter sports were a central factor in my massive weight gain when i was in greenland

Yeah kind of sounds like one of those generalizations. Though I bet it changes from city to city. Also I think you would have to also throw in the availability of premade meals in the US compared to Europe as well. Also did it just compare super markets verse local grocers.

Ugh now my brain is running through all the variables that can skew a study like that.

elizabeth taylor had violet eyes and a nice rack and was in a lot of super-expensive movies that didn't do very well

That's not really fair. Cleopatra was a bomb of epic proportions but most of her films were profitable. And she managed two or three academy awards for best actress. But you're right about her rack and those eyes.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was fantastic.

then again, it had a spectacular cast and one of the best writers oh his day

ditto for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.

Those were her best that I've seen. I never saw Butterfield 8.
