Hey, I plan on taking the Foreign Service Officer exam once I get back from China this summer, and I'm pretty well-read on current events and international relations/politics (my major political science / journalism), I'm kind of hazy on the side of economics.
I want to remedy this.
Are there any good economics/macroeconomic papers/articles/books that I should invest in and read? I would prefer to start simple, because I'm really not sure how to gauge my knowledge on how that crazy economy-thing works.
Bonus points if it is obtainable in 'read online or download' kind of way. Finding English books outside of pop fiction is super difficult in this country.
If you can't get these in China, iTunes U has one of Berkley's introductory economics courses available for free. You might also listen to Yale's Econ 252 lectures from their Open Yale project.
