So far as it stands now, endgame is going to mirror the korean version with endgame being more intimate and focusing on small group content. The political system should be mostly intact but the way pvp works is being tweaked. The reason the videos you've been watching seem bland is because you've been seeing mostly what is considered "perfect play" people will rarely post the glorious screw ups that got them to that point.
Basically the political system works that there are zones in the game where player guilds can be voted into power. Gaining benefits such as being able to set a tax, special vendors and other resources. Don't like the tax or you don't like the guilds in charge, they can either be voted out of power or you can declare war on them wholesale if you don't want to wait for election time. War declarations cannot be declined and last for 24 hours, working on a point scoring system where kills cost more or less depending on who you kill. First to 5-600 or whoever has the most points wins.

Some of you may have noticed the NA beta client is a little on the light side. Here's why:
The current version does not include the highest resolution textures. We were doing some testing in alpha to see if we could maintain a high quality level with a smaller resolution. After testing, we didn't feel it met our standards.
So what does this mean to you? It means we have a high resolution patch in testing. In all likelihood this will go live today or tomorrow and be an additional 7GB. There is a chance it fails testing(It does have other fixes included as well) and will not make it before this weekend. That means that this weekend's closed beta test won't have the most badass settings possible in TERA. It still looks damn good, but it will get better once this patch goes live.
We just wanted to be as transparent as possible so that you guys aren't playing super sleuth on screenshot comparison or client size comparison and wondering where the missing gbs are.
This graph represents the breakdown of races and classes for all characters that participated in the Community Play Event (CPE). The most popular race and class combination was the castanic warrior, which accounted for 5.7% of the total population, while the least popular was the baraka slayer, with only .3%. Overall, the most popular races were the castanic (30%), the high elf (21%), and the humans (17%). These are the most human-like races available to players, which may hint to the fact that players tend to pick races they find more attractive to look at. Since the baraka race does not have a female version, this may explain why the race is the least popular of all (7%).
I wonder if this is going to hold up for release...
So we get stiff once in a while. So we have a little fun. What’s wrong with that? This is a free country, isn’t it? I can take my panda any place I want to. And if I wanna buy it a drink, that’s my business.

Another 'Function Test' today for EU:
Hello everyone,
We'll run another special functial test of our systems today. Please read our previous announcement before choosing to participate to this test. Remember this is not a test to enjoy the game, but rather to test our server infrastructure. Please only take part in this test, if you agree to these special conditions.
Today's test will include two servers and run from 14:00 CET/GMT+1 until 18:00 CET/GMT+1.
If you decide to take part in these tests, we thank you in advance for your support.
You will be able to participate in the tests if you have redeemed your key for the Sneak Peek event or the pre-order.
Hmm, good buddy o'mine fell in love with his adorable lancer when he tried the free Japanese thingy, so my initial thought of LANCES HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO may not come to fruition. Obviously I shall have to try Berserker and Slayer!
. . . And everything else, because how can I know what I'll enjoy most? This isn't quite Monster Hunter, after all.
Still, I'm so happy that action rpgs are coming to the fore.

I don't even mind the usual mmo drek like "Kill x of y" quests. It's just that previous games just felt so detached as far as gameplay goes. All of them played exactly the same in how it controlled.
Also Servers are up for the EU function test thing. Two servers for you guys to choose from.
Oh, goodness, yes. That's one thing I can't complain about in the games we've got. I actually enjoy killing however many things and being rewarded for it. It's just that I also like killing things myself. Monster Hunter has always had a soft spot in my heart for that reason. Right now I'm enjoying Kindoms of Amalur, which is a pretty neat action game for what it offers.
I do have a hankering to see some quality videos of dungeon running, rather than the impressive elite solo kills. I must see what Youtube has to offer.

Steparu is streaming on Twitch.tv, runs mostly endgame dungeons there on the korean retail
Beezel posted a few youtube clips in the last 5ish pages, but those are mostly boss fights. I'm certainly interested in what trash packs look like, as dodging, spot heals, AoE should be displayed prominantly there.

Still kind of conflicted about dropping the full price of a game on this. Last time I purchased an "imported" MMO, it was Aion. And that ended up being a huge mistake.
Anyone care to sell someone who's very close to getting this on its merits? It's not easy to get a feel for this game from videos alone.

if you're that conflicted I'd say wait until the open beta or hope you can grab one of these key giveaways they're doing.

I'd say wait until open beta. Playing around a bit in this test made my interest levels drop.

What did you not like?
When you start your attack animation, your character becomes glued to the ground. Also, all it takes to perform your basic combo is to hold down the mouse button. No tapping for different attacks, just hold it down. It feels very auto-attack-y as opposed to action-y.
It's still decent fun, but it's significantly less fluid and action game-like than I had hoped.
Do you find it to be more interesting than the standard 1, 1, 1, 1, 3, 5, 6, etc. of standard MMOs?
How do your abilities mix up the monotony?
Can you interrupt attacking with a dodge?

I didn't play enough to find an ability vendor. I just tried out the basic feel of a few classes.
As with most MMOs*, I'd imagine having a wide array of abilities at your disposal would make the combat more varied and interesting. My main issue is with how clunky the basic feel of it is. People comparing the game to Monster Hunter are pretty spot on.
It doesn't seem like a bad game, but it's definitely a very specific kind of game.
*As a notable exception, I found the combat in TOR most fun around levels 6-8, before your bars were cluttered with abilities.

yeah, a lot of attacks have you commit to it. There's really no "move cancelling" (DMC, Bayonetta, etc) aside from a couple of exceptions. The combat places a heavier focus on positioning and timing

Sounds like the combat is a more anchored version of DCUO's combat. DCUO has a mouse click based combo system, but allows you to move while attacking. Am I right in that assumption?

Tera's combat is basically a marriage of two traditional systems. It's basically hotkey combat with the lock on removed. There's no "rotation" to speak of and everything is designed to be situational based on where you and your enemy is/doing. But there is a clickable "combo" for melee that acts as a mana builder, and mana spenders in the form of hot keyed skills. These skills can be charged up or chained into other skills. Think of it as Monster Hunter only you have more buttons to press.

This has me a little worried, but I guess I'll see for myself this weekend.
In the event it is a no-go, hopefully it'll be easy to cancel the preorder.

Apparently you can get a refund from the developers themselves if you bought it through their web-site.
Tempted to just drop the money on it and keep an eye on the game, since it does look really interesting. However, i've heard that it bombed hard in Korea after releasing. What i'm concerned about is whether it was because the game itself sucked, or because it wasn't your typical grindathon hotbar MMO that they seem to favor so much.
Supposedly it bombed hard in Korea because it wasn't grindy enough. At least, that's what /v/ claims.
/v/ also claims that TOR is the worst MMO to come out in years, and that it would sink like the Titanic. Despite having over half a million subs and rising. I'd take anything they say with a grain of salt.
As predicted due to the nature of the key handouts, the two servers currently up in the EU are cesspits.
I played a sorcerer up to 12 and found it quite fun but more static than I was expecting the game to be. Also tried out lancer and am disappointed that I found it such a poor experience. I'll keep trying out different classes until I know if I want to order it and if I do then which class I will play.
The main reason I heard for the game bombing in Korea was rampant botting. 90% of player base were bots or something crazy like that.
If 90 percent of the playerbase were bots, then that means that only 10 percent of the playerbase was actually playing the game to play it, which wouldn't bode well for actual sales.
I mean, that's got to be an exaggeration, but a check online confirms that botting was pretty crazy, to the point where it seems like twenty percent or more of the population was botting, with more every day. Apparently the GM's tried to ignore it like they did in Lineage 2 in the US (It killed that game too. People have low tolerance for it.). And most botting companies take the "zerg rush" approach to botting to compensate for potential losses in terms of bans.

Of course. /v/ just hates video games and tipping for pizza delivery.
If that is true about the botting that scares me more than anything. Is the game really that easy that a bot would be effective? I was kinda hoping that given the supposedly more action oriented combat that bots might be able to cope. That said, I am basing that off WoW bots that just run around in circles spamming auto attack on anything within range, so I have low expectations for what bots can do.

Jesus christ. I just went on the official forums. Went down the forums one by one looking for information on the game to try and see if I wanted to take the plunge.
Then I got to the race forums. I've never seen so many people angry at not being able to look at 10 year old hyper-sexualized girls in panties, g-strings, and short skirts before. The front page is literally comprised of over half of them being locked topics about the Elins being "censored".
And for the record, this is what they looked like before they changed them.
You want to know what the change is? They editted out the panties and g-strings to be hot-pants that covered their private areas completely. That's it.
There's some people on Reddit who are trying to say it's because they could have done a better job with the censoring via making a whole new set of armor or something for them, but it sounds like a fairly lame excuse what with them calling them fascists, evil corporatists, etc, etc. Even the commenter's range from wacko pedophile type comments, to people going "Hahaha, what the fuck? You started a petition over this?".
Also, that video is incredibly beautiful and is a hell of an advertisement for the quality of the game in terms of graphical quality. It's taken with super-sampling. However, at the same time, there's something center stage that makes me get the creepy crawlies all over my skin. The way they zoom in is pretty goddamned disturbing, and if nothing else keeping more videos like that from going up on youtube is a worthy cause for altering their armor graphics. Also, i'm probably on a FBI watch list for researching just what people were so pissed about.

Whelp, just spent a few hours in game and had a blast. I enjoyed my Slayer from the get-go, even with the simplistic start (hold LMB to string combo, click RMB to sword-hop dodge), but the new abilities really fleshed him out.
Basically, the game combat is deceptively simple thanks to having a huge healthbar. With solo quests there's almost no penalty to just standing there and mashing attacks until shit dies. Trying to actually avoid damage? Much more interesting. And then you hit your first serious enemy or group quest and suddenly mashing attack won't cut it any more.
At the moment I use my "charge, speed boost to first attack" ability to dash in and use my Whirlwind (which is normally slow, so unless you knock them down or stand behind them they'll hit you before it finishes), as it is now 30% faster. Dodge over them to behind their back to avoid retaliation, do a full combo (since I'm behind them, allowing me to get my 4th attack off for massive damage), then when they turn around use my knock-down to lay them on their ass and use my Whirlwind again. Then just mix up normal combos and dodges, reacting to crit knock-downs when they happen.
It's hella fun, sold me on the game right there and then. Oh, and wading into groups of literally +10 monsters and just cleaving through the smaller ones as you dance around the lieutenant in their midst.
[edit] Oh, and they have the same gathering system as Vanguard did, where multiple party members can gather at the same resource and you get bonuses for it. Goodbye fighting for resources. Oh, and the item slot system- instead of slotting generic "add stat" gems into your items and losing the gems and/or the item if you want to change them the weapon and armour merely determine how many gems you can equip on your character. You can then freely swap them around (you can make 10 outfits from the get-go, so swapping gems and items on the fly is easy)- best part is that the gem bonuses are a lot more varied, from free mana when attacked by another player to shield chance when getting knocked down, special effects when doing crits and so on.
Slayer mana bar works like a rage bar, when you're not doing damage is deteriorates. However, one gem later (which I bought off an NPC cheaply) and poof, I now have a positive regen rate and can start off combat with my big abilities.
