I've fiddled around with the 3DS for a bit, and didn't really have a problem with eyestrain, though I can see how it might be a concern for the youngins.
Of course, I don't understand giving a child something worth more than ten dollars anyhow, since it will likely be destroyed within seconds

After a weekend of constantly staring at one screen or another (3DS to watching a movie to Borderlands to computer), I can report that there is marginal eye strain, but it was probably partly due to being up all Thursday night waiting for the launch.
My solution was to go for a walk (and earn coins with the pedometer).
People are too quick to Buckley a comic when it has more words than they deem necessary.
The jokes are - The kids eyes got burned out by the 3DS. The 3Ds has "hilarious" warning text on the box. And the father has a somewhat calm response even though the aforementioned child's eyes have been burned out.
Not liking the comic is fine, I don't particularly like it. But it's not a Buckley comic.
I really hateTim Buckley, so I don't take that comparison lightly.

I prefer to read it as 'yon little retarded fuckers'.
What's funny is that optometrists say that young kids using the 3D on the 3DS is a good thing. Literally the only reason Nintendo posts the warning is because they want to avoid the chance of some crazy parent suing them for "ruining thar kids eyes!!!!"
Is there a list of which 3DS launch titles actually make good use of the 3D effects? I'm not necessarily talking about fun value, I'm just wondering which ones are good for the new 3D feature.
I think you guys are being a bit overanalytical here.
When some people start to panic, as you might do when you burn out your kid's eyeballs, you try to become calm. One way is to repeat the obvious things that have transpired in order for the brain to slow down and organize its thoughts.
That doesn't make all the text in the comic any funnier. And before anyone goes there, I'm not suggesting that Mike & Jerry have lost it and make shitty comics. I'm just saying this comic doesn't work.
They could have done more with this. Like, hell, I don't know, the kid starts shooting out Cyclops-style optic blasts or something. Comic goes downhill after the wooly mammoth thing.
I really liked reading Jerry's news post on the DS, though. Kind of makes me wish I already had kids so I could introduce them to the joy of games, really. In a weird way I have this irrational fear that by the time I have kids games won't exist in a form I understand anymore.
Yeah, this is easily the worst comic in a long time. It seems like a rare example of PA having a great concept and executing it very poorly into comic form. Everyone has off days though, and I've been really enjoying most of the recent comics.

Maybe it's the warning that's to blame.
Maybe it's a self-fulfilling prophecy!
Steam: Chagrin LoL: Bonhomie
It's from Gabe's POV and he was just playing a bunch of 3DS so his 2D reading skills have suffered.

It's "fucking"
the [something] is fucking.

don't have my tablet
i mean what are the words in the last panel even for
they also buckleyed the fuck out of it
it is more that the nonchalant response is part of the joke than a buckleyism
but i don't think it really works here anyway

Gives it a classier taste.

I know it works for me in stressful situations.

the other ones have a bit too much text, but still a funny concept
