Years later, Pip had to have therapy for this. It involved a pretty girl, a huge plate of mashed potatoes, and a big stick with a nail in it.

Rincewind books always manage to have annoying side characters (excluding the senior wizards post Ridcully), but I like Rincewind himself. He's especially good in Sourcery. There needs to be more of Rincewind defending his wizardness.

    I enjoyed the last continent

although I guess that's because it has the most senior wizards content of the rincewind's books I've read

I thought Rincewind could have used sliiiightly more time in Unseen Academicals

I feel like maybe the concern was so strongly with making it Not-a-Rincewind book that he got docked page time for it, he literally had less to say than any other wizard except the Bursar, whose almost total exclusion was also to the detriment of the book I think

Dr Hix made up for it a bit though, he was a nice addition to the faculty

The lack of Bursar in Unseen Academicals may be because he might be somewhat painful to write, what with Pratchett's own situation and all.

I read some books with the bursar post-ridcully before I read his first appearance

it made me sad to know that he used to be normal, if uptight

I really enjoyed unseen academicals, as well

I wonder how well a book that is entirely about the senior wizards would work

    I hated Twoflower so much.

I think my dislike of the luggage springs from its association with him and the fact that it saves him from dying horrible deaths so much.

I think Interesting Times was the second discworld I read, and the first one with Rincewind and Twoflower, and I really didn't mind him at all. I think he worked well in that context.

I read the earlier books much later, and yeah he was annoying but it just kind of blended into the general sub-par-ness I associate with the first three or four books in any case. So overall I don't mind either twoflower or the luggage, on balance, since I'll always associate him primarily with the mild-but-potentially-badass character he was in Interesting Times.

yeah, it's pretty consistently great. No low points at all, funny all the way through, plus pathos. Plus rincewind plus wizards plus cohen.

... man I wish I had my discworlds here in germany :(

Interesting Times was great but I hated that lady who disliked Rincewind and threatened him constantly. She was just an annoying character. Yes great, we get that you've seen through Rincewind and don't like him, shut up about it.

Yeah, she was annoying. She was likely meant to be, but still. I liked Rincewind's closing remarks to her near the end
"But there are causes worth dying for!"

"No there aren't! Because you only have one life, but you can pick up another five causes on any street corner!"

"Good grief, how can you live with a philosophy like that?"

    Rincewind took a deep breath.

    "Continuously!"
