I might snag Devil Survivor 2 tomorrow if my store has it. I'm waiting for an Atlus sale before I get the Persona series, but 1-3 are definitely on my list to get digitally on my Vita. And I guess Persona 4 is getting a Vita port called Golden? I read a little bit about it on Gamespot. It sounds like they are changing the main character or something? Since I've never played the original Persona 4 this isn't a big deal for me, but I'm wondering what other people's thoughts are.

Unfortunately, Atlus already had a sale about two weeks ago(which I only heard about the day after it ended), so it's unlikely that there will be another one for a bit, short of Sony pushing some big "PSP on the Vita" promotion to get people to buy some once they expand backwards compatibility.

Wait, really? I've been checking every day since I got my First Edition Bundle, and I never saw an Atlus sale.

Yeah, Atlus did not have a sale two weeks ago. At least, not in the US. I have been checking every day even BEFORE I got the FEB.

Oops, yeah that was my mistake. I and it again and it says 2011. And the last one before that was late 2010.

So yeah as it is, Atlus is way overdue for a price drop on just about everything.

There apparently have been complaints on their forums but Atlus reps refuse to comment outside of "it's not that easy", and "it takes time"(as though a year and a half isn't enough).

I think they typically do a Super Mega Ultra 50% off PSN sale the week before a big PSP release. So I'm guessing that we will see the next sale either right before Gugnir/Growlanser hit the shelves, or right around when they announce or release P4: Golden. Or both.

I can only guess that their marketing monkeys are either forcing the price since they know that most of those PSP titles outside of Persona are pretty damn rare(since Atlus likes their limited print runs), or so that they can artificially buffer their profit figures on big releases by funneling people into buying their games during sales periods that coincide with release days(who's going to know if you just refer to it as "quarterly profits = UP!!").

At this point Crimson Gem Saga will have been out for two years as of two months from now and has not seen a price drop. It boggles the mind if you try to explain it using any rational economic or marketing sense.

It's a damn fine game though and if it did go on sale, I'd surely buy it.

Shouldn't have to wait for a sale. The actual prices should have been slashed. Atlus games are some of the only ones that are still fourty bucks on PSN, while most alternative JRPG choices are ten to twenty.

Yeah, XSeed Games regularly discounts their PSN games and they're not of any less quality than what Atlus has released.

Fortunately, you can get CGS for $15 on UMD, if you have a proper PSP.

Aren't all of the games barring a few obscure spin-offs part of one huge megaverse?

The Amala Labyrinth in Nocturne implies that they're all part of different worlds in the Amala Network, though that's stretching it a bit. The only one you could say is even implied to connect to SMT3's Amala Network is DDS, since Hitoshura shows up there.

If anything connects all the games, it's Mr. Cypher, though Persona and Devil Survivor are largely been free of his influence. I guess he can't cope with the Power of Friendship©.

So I just broke two of my personal rules today:

    a) Never buy anything off Ebay.
    b) Never buy a game you don't own the system for.

I ended up buying a new copy of Devil Survivor Overclocked today for nearly $50 off Ebay because it's nearly impossible to find here. Fuck. I don't even own a 3DS yet.

I'll probably buy one this week though.

I just got Devil Survivor 2. About to crack it open. I'm excited, as this is my first ever foray into the land of Shins and Megamis.

And now a random question: What is the Digital Devil Saga about? Please tell me its about demons on the internet.

It's hard to talk about without spoiling much but it dips heavily into Hindu mythologies and explores various concepts related to that mythology - karma, reincarnation, etc.

But there's a lot more to it than that.

Suffice to say, it's like one of my top favorite RPGs ever, and I include all the CRPGs I've played since 1983. I put it on a pedestal next to Planescape: Torment, for instance. If you can play it, play it.

If just the name is amusing to you, you might find it interesting that the very first (S)MT game was subtitled Digital Devil Story. And was about demons coming out of the internet. And it was based on a book, and has two really cheesy 80's OVAs.

With a name like Digital Devil Saga, one might easily assume its about demons on the internet.

Did anyone see that episode of Buffy where some archdemon gets banished to the internet or something? It was a major eye-roll episode. They went as far as to have one of the teachers call herself a "Cyber Witch" or something.

It seems like there was a "phase" where lots of media (movies, tv, games, comics, etc) all had to have crazy evil in the internet story arcs.

Yeah, if you want cyberpunk + SMT, you want Soul Hackers. And they go together great.

    Amazing music, too.

I still need to get back to Disc 2, but I think if I take long enough, maybe Gemini'll finish hacking the damn thing.

By the by, I hear those OVAs are pretty bad, and aren't based on Digital Devil Story, but something like an offshoot.

Yeah, the one review I read of them said they were pretty bad. And closer to the book (or maybe it was a manga based on the book/game) than game...with the typical bad 80's OVA condensing/adjusting, that's what I meant. Like the Baoh or Alita OVAs.

Enjoying Devil Summoner 2. I'm sure this is gonna sound backwards to a lot of people, but it really reminds me of TWEWY. At least the first hour of gameplay does. I haven't gotten much further than that.

Actually, that was a pretty important episode if only for showing how strong Willow's character was despite her being pretty attention starved.

Jungo is beast mode. Once he gets high enough to equip assassinate, he can immediately one-shot most enemy group leaders at the start of the fight.

I just got Airi and Jungo in, fair warning about Jungo though:
When it's time to save him, make it priority 1. Good thing I had a suspend save before I went Fateing.

Daichi with Multi-hit, Tailwind, Quick Move, Crit Up and Ares Aid is one of the most vicious single target burners in the game. You can replace Quick Move with Pierce for phys resistant though it may allow some of the really fast demons to hit first, unless you have a Wave demon(or in my case, grouped with a Cu Chulainn with Multi-hit, 23 Agility, Pierce, Phys Boost and Ares Aid). As a result I usually save my Pierce for Makoto/Jungo with Phys Boost and Assassinate for a leader-snipe group(Jungo won't have the agility to equip Assassinate until his 40s).

Strictly speaking, Hinako is better, since she will eventually max out both Agility and Strength while Daichi caps at about 35 for each.

And cj, yeah, I'm past that :)

Jungo's Fate Link or Social Link or whatever makes him one of my favorite characters in the whole of Megaten, really.

Yeah but you have to go into New Game+ and remove the exp cap to get to that point. Right now it's such a small difference that it comes down to personal preference for character the first time around.

I had a good idea of who I wanted in my team for the long run in DS1. In this game, there's just too many possibilities.

Pretty sure Io and Joe aren't ever leaving my team. Just a question of who gets slot four.
