    Oh hey that's pretty cool.

I think I'd rather just read it again.

    But this is cool too.

    Not really!

There is a pretty good chance it could be a damn good movie. We know nothing other than the fact that it exists.

Saying OH GOD THIS IS GOING TO BE AWFUL is dumb.

Plus, Gaiman has a pretty great track record with his stuff and films. Coraline was great, Stardust was great and Mirrormask was pretty fucking weird, but that was what it was trying to be.

American Gods can translate to film just fine. It doesn't rely on any specific literature-only devices to tell it's story and it's plot follows a pretty solid formula.

In a recent interview, Gaiman exclusively revealed to DS that a director "who has many, many Oscars" is already on board the project.

"I'm going to be having a meeting in LA with the people that the film rights have been sold to," he confirmed. "I'm going to be... talking to them, find out where they're going and if there's any way that I can help."

He also described the unnamed director attached to the film as "a genius".

"He fell in love with this [novel] about six or seven years ago and has not given up," explained the writer.

What I'm sorry I can't hear you over all this script-editing

Now obviously Anansi's gonna be the wisecracking ethnic sidekick but I wanna know if his new name should be 'anan-sizzle' or 'A-spide' (A-DOGG would obviously be quite weird)

Also, the American Film industry has this habit of... ignoring anything vaguely unfamiliar to the hetero-normative Judeo-Christian middle America psyche. The whole point of the story is that all these Gods and myths don't thrive in American culture and have bugger all profile. I'm somewhat afraid of what compromises the movie will make in a studios search to make the movie more appealing to White middle America. A film that challenges the audience's knowledge of non-Christian religion and has at its center a story that will be denounced by the religious conservatives of the midwest as heresy? You couldn't pitch a worse concept to the the film industry at the moment.

Didn't they make another Gaiman book into a movie? Stardust? Never saw it, but never heard much about it either.

I should really reread American Gods. It's been a while since I first read it and I've reread everything else by him (since I own it all) except this (which I don't.)

they should adapt Deathbird Stories as a series of shorts and then wait for people to say that it ripped off American Gods.
