Save everywhere should just be a thing now, in every RPG. There is really no excuse not to have it.

I agree 100%. Save points are a sin against mankind.

    depends on the game imo

in an rpg with lots of dialog and non-twitch combat I think I agree entirely though

I don't know how much worth the info is, but the Canadian EB website now has changed the release date to Thursday instead of Friday. There's also an important message about the artbook, that it's now expired and only preorders placed before March 28th will get one.

Hopefully it's true. Waiting until Friday suuuuucks.

That's why all the quests in sword valley are timed

Eh. I took the timed thing to mean they are literally timed! as in in-game days! Man. Live and learn.

I am very glad I know this now, thanks for the heads up.

I need to call the gamestop and see what time they open on friday. Gonna get this ASAP!

    No.

I mean, sure, best Console RPG this generation (and last too, but I didn't want to get into that fight.) a solid slate of 90%+ reviews from just about everywhere, and basically universal approval in a 75+ page thread.

It's one of those games that only happen once every time the planets align, except this time they skipped those prerequisites altogether. It's nothing short of a miracle.

I think I'm going to make a new thread for it tomorrow. Anyone with any fanart or ideas is welcome.

Reyn clock, gem explaination, affinity explaination, read the tutorials, cc versus standard control explaination, maybe a few one liners. Probably going to skip music as you could consider that an awesome spoiler, and I'll probably stop the character overview if I do one at Sharla, since you could consider the rest to be spoilery.

A link to that Google Docs spreadsheet might not go amiss.

I mean, spoilery to all hell but it's the best resource on the tubes for finding that one goddamn NPC you can never find in that one specific time period you can never remember because you bumped into them randomly whilst doing something else. Also Frontier Village.

EDIT: You Will Know Our Names needs a place in the OP. It's not really a spoiler because it'll play as soon as the first unique is fought and it is just that good.

Better than Persona 4? That's saying something. OK, thanks for the recommendation.

This and Persona 4 are tied for my personal favorite JRPG of the last 10 years, for what it's worth.
Both are very different games despite the JRPG label, but they're both fantastic in their own right.

But yeah, Xenoblade is great..and long. Very long.

I mean, it's been awhile since I played it so I can't really remember when exactly I figured out who #7 was..but it definitely wasn't "very early".

    I was similarly slow.
I'd been reading the spreadsheet. I kept seeing her name pop up on there but initially I wrote it off as her being just a prologue character. But between the spreadsheet having her on there, and her showing up alive as one of the hybrids, I figured it out.

    Early-to-midgame spoilers:
My suspicions were strongly aroused by the cutscene after Satorl Marsh. It only took Prison Island for confirmation.

Come to think of it, there's relatively little fuss over her death in Colony 9. There's relatively little fuss about the entire Mechon invasion. The Colony 9 types mostly return to their daily routines as if nothing really happened.

I suppose it would have been nice to see a change in Colony 9 from a kind of idyll it is portrayed as right at the start to a more tense environment afterwards.

But now I'm really picking at details. Perhaps the point is the colonists are so used to a history of violence that they are desensitised towards more people dying to the Mechon. Which is kind of a horrifying implication if true.

    XoB doesn't like Persona 4.

Does the Nintendo product tracker work for anyone who preordered the game from Nintendo yet? Yesterday, it said my order was backordered (despite ordering in December) and today, it just gave me a null value. Hoping these are just errors with the tracking system since the game's official release date is still a couple days off.

I figured out she was the white Mechon pretty fast. If you do allllll the colony 9 quests, the one that gives you Shulk's 4th tree gives a little away. The quest-giver talks about knowing Mumkhar before he got Mechon'd. So I figured out the human-mechon hybrid thing early because of that. It didn't take much to figure out that the white one had to be her.

Yeah, I figured that out pretty early as well. It's not like "machines using humans as powersources" is the most original idea ever though.
The white Mechon being Fiona is pretty obvious, yeah, but I didn't think she could be saved from that fate and thus be a member of the party again.

Edit: woops, didn't mean to make a new post. Sorry.

Link that spreadsheet in the op (soooo much info in there, but dear god it has spoilers if you're early in the game), as well as the wiki (saved my ass a bunch of times, also full of spoilers). Brief explanation on crafting, affinity coins and the quest system (how town affinities and npc locations work when looking for quests). Oh, and make a note of how topple and the like can be stacked. I didn't know that shit until I was over 100 hours in.

Everything else is easy to figure out.

New OP needs a big label somewhere along the lines of 'WARNING ACTUAL SPOILERS WITHIN READ SPOILERS AT YOUR OWN RISK' because I'll be damned if I want spoiling anything for people on my conscience.

    Talking of which...
I think I was more surprised at 7th becoming a party member than I was at seeing them again. I was expecting something much more tragic to happen. Then Galahad happened. And the rest was awesome.

It still bugs me that for a good third of the game Shulk was being obviously shipped with Melia. It was all chardev-chardev-chardev-GALAHAD-friendzoned.

I'm inclined to believe it was a deliberate subversion, given the JRPG classic trope of every dateable woman throwing themselves at the protagonist.

Yes, In my opinion Xenoblade is better then P3, P4, SMT 3, DQ VIII, BoF V, BKO, FF X, X-2, XI, XII, PM2:TTYD, DDS 1-2, and all the western efforts from the past two gens plus any other acronyms you can think of.

Mother 3 is in fact the only thing keeping me from calling it the best general RPG of the past two generations.

Mother 3? Seriously? It's a decent enough game, but it's not even in my top 20 favorite RPGs. Story's pretty good but the gameplay is bare-bones generic Dragon Quest (which was also a problem with Earthbound and Mother 1).

Looking forward to playing Xenoblade though whenever Nintendo decides to ship it. From what I've seen of it, it probably won't be one of my all-time favorites, but hey, any good JRPG that's not on a portable system these days is a rarity.

The impression I've gotten from watching people play it is that Xenoblade is a drastically better Final Fantasy XII. I hated FFXII but the "drastically better" part is why I'm still checking it out.
