WORLD’S FIRST EDIBLE DRAIN CLEANER

edited April 2011 in Social Entropy++
‘Every day children are being put at risk,’ says Arthur Freemantle, leader of the eight-man biomolecular chemistry team at Harvard University ‘we’re just trying to make the world a little safer.’ Together with his team, they’re working to develop the world’s first edible drain cleaners, to prevent the many poison hazards that such chemicals present in the home and in the workplace. ‘The idea came to me really suddenly actually, one night in my kitchen, washing dishes. I’d just opened a new bottle of lemon-scented dishwashing liquid and I think to myself “well, why can’t it be lemon-FLAVOURED’ too?”

While the team hasn’t yet managed to make Freemantle’s epiphany a reality, they did manage to adapt the idea to similar products like drain cleaners and other ‘basic’ substances. The team claims to have adapted elements from many existing food products in order to produce the cleaner’s non-toxic powerful cleaning properties. ‘I mean, Everyone has heard the story of how if you leave a coin in a glass of coke overnight it’ll be clean the next morning, right? Our product is just the next step up’, he chuckles.

Freemantle acknowledges there may be some complications in releasing their product on to the market. “We realise that there’s a potential for even more confusion with both edible and non-edible products on the market, it’s probably the main challenge we’ve had to face. But we’re already engaged in talks with several major companies, and we’re hoping for a simultaneous release across the country some time in the next four years.'

Really, this has to be the dumbest research project I’ve heard about for years. You’re thoughts...
...about April Fool's Day?

Last year at my office, we put a sign on the printers that we installed a new voice recognition feature on it.

So, people stood around and talked to the printers trying to make copies and shit.

    It was pretty great.

I wrote a quick script that, when people double clicked on the file I embedded it in, it would change their screen saver to a picture of the blue screen of death and it would change their screensaver activation time to 1 minute.

Then I realized that it's technically a virus and IT wouldn't be too thrilled with my antics.

Google doesn't really play April fool's jokes.

They have some executive think up something silly they make an announcement page and everyone has a good laugh.

Then some young engineer says, actually, that might be possible. And then the big wigs give him a bunch of resources and they go and do it.

It's not so much of an April fool's prank as a think of crazy technology day.

So far Taito's had my favorite.
Taito is taking the Darius Burst Another Chronicle concept to the extreme Darius Burst Another Chronicle 48. The original Another Chronicle featured a super wide screen -- basically the width of two 16x9 screens together. Another Chronicle 48 features 48 screens, making its dimensions 384x9.

    34sgmds.jpg

The cabinet measures 19,290 x 1575 x 1885 mm and weights 4,080kg. Taito says that it's currently seeking a Guiness World Record for the screen width.

Forty-eight players can play Darius Burst Another Chronicle 48 together. Taito notes that, regardless of player, when your ship is destroyed, it will regenerate at the far left. The player in the far right seat will have to wait about a minute for his ship to arrive in his area of play.

The original cabinet is 1/48 of that.

At least they had fun with the censor bars during the movie, like having it cover the entire screen but a tiny corner showing someone's hair. And having the censor bar walk out the door with him.

Also flashing "Do NOT copy this copyrighted materiel"

Under the screen every 5 minutes or so.

So far Hulu is winning for the best one
