The Iconoclasts - unfinished but amazing looking freeware indie platformer
So, I just read about tis game over at RPS and even to a platformer sceptic like me it sounds pretty brilliant. For a more in depth look at the game you should read that article.
Basically it's a traditional 2D platformer with some gorgeoous art and a really well written story. It has ben programmed completely by one guy, Swedish indie dev Konjak, who also seems to have made a lot of other rather nifty stuff that I have missed. The Iconoclasts is still unfinished, because of a lack of funds and Konjak seemingly burning out a bit. He seems to have started taking donations now, after being urged on by a bunch of fans that want to see this game finished. Either way, the game is free, so even if it's unfinished it's a bargain. I will download it as soon as I get home.
It's a shame he's continuing on with traditional platformer mechanics. Chalk was a really fun and unique game. This looks pretty and polished though, I guess.
Well, I finally got around to trying the game out myself. It seems really quite good. It is a very pretty game with great music and it controls beautifully, although I am, as usuall prettty damned shite at platforming. It even seems like the story might be decentish. Now if I hadn't just picked WoW back up I might have gotten around to finishing it.
Man, seems to end at this elevator puzzle that actually looked fun, oh well. Wow, though, it's a great game. The grapple-jumps are a really fun mechanic.

It might be a good idea to have a slightly more direct download link, as I didn't find it until I checked the description of the Youtube video.
I gotta try this now.
Mind, I just got the tool, and am having some trouble with the grapple, but man.
So pretty.
