What's with people saying that they should change the name? Many companies have names that really don't have much to do with their product.
For some reason, every time GOG releases something new-ish, people bitch that it isn't a good OLD game. Like, when The Witcher 2 was released simultaneously on GOG and Steam.

It puzzles me, too, because it's not like they can't release both kinds of stuff, you know?

It doesn't bother me when they release new stuff. I play just as many new games as I do old. But gog is unique in offering the games they have. Before them there wasn't really any easy way to get these games, and if you did find a copy it was hard to get working on your system and gog does most of the work for you.

I think people are just worried they're going to abandon getting the old games and move towards newer stuff thinking it'll get them more money.

I do not own an american English language copy of outcast. Does it hold up well? Any other gems on that list I must have (given that I've got MOO and TA)?

I thought outcast was amazing. I played it for the first time about a year ago, and I really enjoyed it. The only thing that detracted from the experience was a technical glitch that made the game slow down considerably, and then crash, after about 45 min of gameplay. Despite this, I kept firing it up and playing it after every crash. It was good enough to keep me hooked.

Other than that, if you've never played Blood it's a great game. It sort of needs to be taken in context to be appreciated, but it's really fun if you're big on the Duke3D style of old school FPS games. Just don't play the second one.

I can't get out of the boat.

I like the aesthetic. I have no idea if the game is broken or if I'm just doing it wrong.

edit :Just tried to play it again. Unplugged my flight stick to see if that would help with joypad controls or something. No dice, the intro vid wouldn't even play properly. I think the game is broken in a lot of ways at the moment, especially considering the amount of other people who are having issues with it. Oh well, no skin off my back. Who knows, maybe it'll even get fixed up.

I got Outcast the last time it was on sale and, thankfully, aren't having any real technical issues with it.

It holds up surprisingly well against modern games, too. I'm especially enjoying the banter between Ulukai (don't remember his real name anymore...) and the natives.

I actually really, really liked it with the fan patch thingies on.

But then again, I have been told that I am as dumb as a post and have all the taste of a starving Yak.

I LOVE the banter. I LOVE it when you sing with the dude in the city and he makes fun of you. Outcast is a really fucking great game. It really needs and deserves a remake with decent graphics and playable controls.

    Something almost like this, maybe?

But, yeah, I don't think it needs remaking for the sake of the graphics and controls; it needs remaking to fix technical problems and to get a less silly-looking run animation.

There are apparently some permissions errors. If you install the game somewhere outsite the "Program Files" folder, you'll probably have better luck.

Hm, we talking about the same thing? The circular MMO-patcher-like thing that pops up in the middle of your desktop and lets you configure controls, sound volume, resolution and so on? I imagine GoG bypasses it, since they usually have their own launchers, you'd need to run it manually yourself.

We are indeed talking about the same thing. If you have the taskbar on the left or right side, on windows 7 64bit at least, you cannot click most of the buttons in this circular config menu. Move the task bar to the bottom and all is well and right with the world.

It's actually a pretty good game.

I like the fact that you can actually set up choke points and fortress worlds and set governor priorities ...

Combat still pisses me off routinely (NO, transport ships, you do NOT start in the vanguard when assaulting a planet), but it's a solid 4x game.
