My mum has a pet tarantula, arachnophobia isn't a problem for me
That said, I can see why people would be creeped out by so many of them
I mean, I think bunnies are cute. But if a million of them rampaged across the countryside, climbing up trees and spinning their webs, you're damn right I'd think it was creepy
I went to a spider farm where they like mount the spiderwebs on plaques and frame them somehow.
It was really cool and now I have a sweet spiderweb hanging on my wall.

The locals seem quite happy with the situation as they're eating all the much more annoying bugs. I think I could live with a few scary spider trees in exchange for fewer of some things.

this is generally my opinion of spiders, but then I start thinking of predator-prey systems and how there will only be a lot of spiders around if there continue to be a large number of insects and realise that it probably just puts a slightly lower upper limit on things

So, we have to feed the spiders to maintain their numbers and train them to kill, not for food, but just because? Got you. I'll get some PhD students on it this afternoon.

We also need to harvest their webbing to make ridiculously strong body armor.

I read a story on this the other day that talked about how this has greatly reduced the mosquito population, so that no matter how creepy it may look everyone views it as beneficial.
Also that in the beginning the webs were all white and beautiful before all the mosquito carcasses got in there to die in the Saw: Mosquito Death Trees.

Haven't you guys ever seen bagworm and webworm? Just don't go near those fuckin' trees is all.
Anecdotal comment: does anyone else feel that willow trees have an inordinate number of spiders inhabiting them? I swear I constantly have spider-drop incidents under willow trees.

as a lad i remember witnessing a black wasp fly into a web, fight and eventually devour the spider, then fly away like it aint no thing
black wasps cemented their place as most terrifying bug in my childhood
I remember seeing a queen bumblebee fly into a spider's web
The spider exploded into action and cut it out and then went back to hiding on the edge of the web
It was all "hell yeah I eat tonight oh shit she's royalty, better let her out before the Bee Nation kicks my ass"
