I hope Revelations doesn't have a 100% sync challenge as annoying as this Young at Heart rooftop race. It's so infuriating.

Unfortunately, according to the achievement list, its in there.

I like the 100% sync achievements. That's not the problem. Annoyingly impossible sync goals is the problem. Trollish sync goals is the problem. The only missions I had trouble with on my second playthrough here were Hell On Wheels and Young At Heart, but they were rage-inducingly bad. In my first playthrough, add Flying Machine 2.0 and Castello Crasher to that list. Castello Crasher almost made me quit the game and I think I did stop playing it for a day. I meticulously spent like 25 minutes getting to...
...Caterina's cell. The 100% sync requirement is to not be detected. Well, in that final cell, two guards basically "spawn" as you approach the room. The first time I played through Brotherhood, I fucked it up by running into that last room where NO GUARDS WERE ON THE MAP IN THAT ROOM and nearly threw my Dual Shock 3 at a wall.

In fact, I almost fucked it up the second time too, but I remembered at the last second.

Also, the 8 minute timed missions were annoying but actually I had no trouble with them the second time through. I did somehow remember the right way to go each time. Though I did have to intentionally kill myself a few times in the one where you have to fight a lot of Romulans.

So guys I just beat Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (again) and with 100% sync! Yay. But anyway, I have a question (a very spoilery question):
Seriously, these are bit Brotherhood spoilers.
After you complete The Truth and speak to Subject 16 you leave the Animus, but it's glitched to hell and you can't do anything but press a button and reenter the Animus. I experienced the same glitch on the PS3 version and I'm sure it's a common occurrence.

My question is: Maybe that wasn't a bug? It certainly looks and feels like a bug, but maybe that's like an Animus glitch.

One of my theories was that the Desmond sections in (at least) Brotherhood were of either Desmond himself, or Desmond's descendant - his son, perhaps - reliving Desmond's memories. I know most people hate this theory, but it does kind of lend support to it, non?

I just achieved 100% sync a few minutes ago myself!

And I had that glitch myself, but
I am pretty sure it is just a glitch. I think we'll know more in a few days, and people like @JonBob might already know.

Well, I'm getting it for the PC and it's not coming out until either 11/29 or 12/2 (seems unclear at this point).

So in a few hours, you won't be seeing me for a few weeks.

Some guy uploaded Assassin's Creed Embers to youtube in 3 parts. There's also another with the whole thing in one video, but it has an annoying text watermark.

Anyway, here it is...while it lasts, anyway:

People who liked the "send assassins out on assignments" part of Brotherhood are in for a treat. It's back with some more depth to it, and real rewards for Ezio.

I was pleased with Embers. Probably watch it again after I beat AssBro and AC:R.

    AC:E discussion:
Only odd bit for me were the horsemen, were they just some random ones riding up or what?

Didn't recognize the guy next to Ezio on the bench, thought it was Machiavelli for a second but he is too young. Maybe AssBro players recognize him. I'm assuming he poisoned Ezio, or just had awesome timing.

Yeah, I don't know who that guy was either, but I'm not completely sure he poisoned him. Ezio looked like he was already in pretty bad shape by then, what with all the coughing.

The biggest issue I had with the 100% sync requirements in Brotherhood was that they often didn't jive with what they claimed to be. Some, like "Don't get hit" or "kill the target in this manner" made lots of sense, but others were pretty arbitrary. The idea was completing the mission in a certain way got the relived memory closer to how Ezio actually did things right? Well Ezio was no idiot. He wouldn't blast through a Romulan lair in 8 minutes flat when it's impossible to loot all the various treasure chests in the area and complete the lair in that time frame. Or in another mission where you need to defend a guy from very aggressive guards, the requirement was "Don't be detected." So it created a bizarre dance where Ezio is waiting for assasstants to be available or running to a rooftop to crossbow a guard instead of actually killing the people taking out the guy I'm escorting. Frequently the sync requirements came across as directly antagonistic towards completing the mission. Then there were the simply obnoxious ones, like "Don't get detected once during this 6 hour mission and if you blow cover start from the very beginning because there are no checkpoints." And there's the infamous tank mission. And the ones that just seemed like random requirements that didn't add the the mission at all. I liked the ones that added an extra layer to my strategy or think a bit more about how to add a certain angle to things, but far too often they came across as arbitrary restrictions that forced me to approach things in a certain way and removed options instead of opening the game up.

  • DeMoNDeMoN Registered User regular
Yeah, I always dreaded seeing "don't be detected". It's a great game, but not really on the cutting-edge when it comes to stealth.

i like achievements, but i don't even bother with trying for 100% sync. i got close on a bunch for AssBro but i simply do not have the patience to keep at some of those bullshit requirements.

I just replayed Assbro and pretty much ignored the sync stuff. Way more satisfying. "Don't kill anyone"? Fuck you game, I'm an Assassin.

To be honest, though, on playing it a second time, most of the stealth objectives can be cheesed like you wouldn't believe if you (a) have at least a fuzzy idea of which way to go, (b) have smoke bombs, and (c) have the crossbow. Also, having poisoned darts is extremely helpful, but that doesn't come till midgame. You can literally walk up to people and just shoot them to their face with a poisoned dart and just stand there while they thrash around and die and nobody will suspect you of anything at all. Very helpful in some missions with detection sync objectives.

I really blew through the game the second time. I mean, according to my sig I spent 40.9 hours on it but at least 10 of those hours was literally AFK while I let money amass in my bank account.

On a completely different note, does anyone know if the copy of AC1 in the PS3 version of Revelations is save-compatible with the standalone disc? I have no desire to own two copies of the original game, so if my save will still work (allowing me the ability to return to the Holy Land and shank mans indiscriminately without replaying the entire game) I'll trade in my copy. Otherwise I'll groan but keep it.

Look, game, if I sneak up behind a guy and punch him in the throat, and he's still rolling around in pain afterwards, I didn't kill him. Your "don't kill anyone" requirement should not be the same as "don't attack anyone."

On the plus side, I finished up all I want of AssBro (I'm not touching multiplayer, thank you), and just discovered that the "Raiden" skin isn't Raiden; it's Ezio in the robo-ninja outfit, which is even cooler.

While right now might be a bit late to try it, I will say that I was pleasantly surprised with the multiplayer. I rarely play multiplayer modes on my 360, but had a lot of fun with this one. I'm sure a lot of people here would say the same thing. When AssRev comes out, you might want to give it a shot!

A nice little thing I like about the very beginning...
By not having you start immediately as you walk away from Cesare Borgia's falling body, it explains why you don't have all your awesome equipment without having to resort to letting you have them for a while before stripping them from you, which is something I don't care for in video games.

And now some more story discussion...
I've just finished sequence 2, and I'm noticing an issue with Ezio's story: His enemies are just "The Templars". In Brotherhood he focused on the Borgias, and in II he was pointed to the Pazzis and they helped him uncover more enemies. Right now, although that may change, it feels a little nebulous.

And Lucy is definately dead. This makes me sad.

And Sixteen creeps me out a little. I think he has Lucy's little fisheye problem.

    Gameplay...
The tower defence minigame is fun, but I can't help but shake the impression that Revelations has a bit of feature creep: By introducing these minigames, they focus less on the whole "Assassin" thing. The hookblade is a pretty nice feature, it makes running around [That town in the They Might Be Giants Song] more elegant.

    All in all so far...
The game feels a little like a holding pattern. It's fun and I'm sure there are great missions waiting for me, but I think I'll be glad to part ways with Ezio. I think it's time to finally get to Assassin's Creed 3.

Pretty much agree with you on all points, a little disappointing for me as I was really looking forward to it and so far it hasn't felt as great as I wanted (admittedly it's very early so far though) . Can see myself putting it on the back burner and returning to Skyrim for a while instead.

One small thing I liked is that eagle vision is on L3 yet can't be pressed on/off when you are moving around with the left stick. Nice little control touch and something that bothers me about actions on that button.

My thoughts on the new toys
The hook blade is cool, very happy to run around with that thing.

Just like you mentioned with the tower defence and 'feature creep', the bombs feel pretty unnecessary to me and have so far just led to them having an excuse for jamming even more enemies into the sneaky sections (I'm not a massive fan of stealth gameplay though so YMMV.)

Other past glories of the series have been neglected. Remember those wonderful jumping puzzles from Assassin's Creed 2, where it could take the better part of an hour just to figure out how to cross a room? If you could manoeuvre through one of those, hitting the finish line was exhilarating. Revelations has rooms like that, but most of the time, the way to get across is to push forward on the joystick while holding down the trigger and the A button. On occasion, you also have to press the B button to use your hook blade, in which case the game will literally tell you to press the B button to use your hook blade. Somehow the finish line does not feel as sweet.

I don't want to totally poo poo over the thread but my opinion on the first two sections of 1st person platforming:
There is no parkour or mantling, think Duke Nukem 3D jumping here. Kept 'interesting' by creating your own platforms from a variety of shapes, kind of like portal puzzle rooms but instead of a portal gun you have a lego gun. A bit like building a ramp in minecraft but with some weird physics stuff at times.

Running around in the actual game is just as fun as usual or even more so due to the hook blade thing.

I've decided to forgo the midnight release tonight and just pick it up in the morning. EDIT: Someone who gets those 3D glasses needs to fill us in how how well/effective they work; particularly compared to "real" 3D. $30 isn't bad if they do anything. But on their site there's like uh...4 games listed it works for.
