Like, so so glad. I may be just as excited for Liberation as I am for AssThree.
Is it worth going back and buying the old PSP games?
All signs point to no
And you're a braver man than I, buying a system for the only great-looking game for it
But if there's a series to do it for, it's this one
I didn't buy it for this game. I just had a big birthday (30 feels so old), and was lucky enough to get it as a complete surprise gift after holding one in a Best Buy and going "Wow, this thing is really kind of cool."
It's just awesome, awesome coincidence that right after getting one, a must have game is being released for it.

I've had a Vita since launch and I'm really hoping this is a game I can sink my teeth into. I mean I love LBP, Lumines, Wipeout and the 2D Beat em ups etc, but only for little bursts. Still haven't had a game I can sit down and play properly with.
Anyone had a hands-on with the vita version yet? How does it run?
Watching Last of the Mohicans (combat in this game really reminds me of this movie) and I'm wondering if that club-type weapon used at the end is in this game. That would be pretty badass to use.
Edit: Upon watching the movie again, I noticed that the weapon is used all throughout it. Still would love to use it.
Yeah, there are warclubs in this game. If pre-order at Best Buy, you get Pontiac's war club, which has three knife blades sticking out of it. I imagine war clubs will replace the maces from AC2, so there will probably be two or three of them.
I'm getting pretty stoked for this. I'm moving the weekend before AC3 comes out, so I won't have Internet for a bit. Between this and a Mass Effect trilogy run I think I'm going to be totally set for the inevitable waiting on Internet to get turned on.

Never really thought about Altair being as formative to Desmond as Ezio was. That's a cool way of looking at it. ;D
I swear they gave Desmond another new face at the very end there, despite having his classic face from AC1 to AssBro earlier on in the vid when he's in the bar.
Oh brilliant

Ad on PA's front page says 4 exclusive PS3 missions.
Wonder if they're simple one-shots like all the shop exclusive ones or if they form a narrative like in AssBro.

It actually kinda bugs me; the Altair thing.
Because in both that video and in Revelations they are clearly saying outright that Altair knows a lot. Ezio, iirc, even referenced at one point how much Altair knew and the secrets he had.
They made a thing at the end of AC1 and then in Revelations to point out that Altair had a lot of answers, answers that for whatever reason Desmond isn't privy to, despite living through him more than once.
I guess I get that Desmond 'needed' Ezio for the training, though I'm not entirely sure why Altair wouldn't have sufficed; he grew up in the order from the get-go; but as far as information about TWHCB and the pieces of eden, Altair would definitely have been the one to focus on. But after AC1 all the info they got from him was totally round-a-bout.
is there some plot reason, that I missed, as to why they didn't just get what they needed from Altair entirely? Or is it just a contrivance to have them pick a different setting/assassin for 2 (and then bro/rev)?
Ass Rev isn't about info. I mean, it is for the ancestors, but not for Desmond. He just needs the sync point or he will die/limbo forever. And conveniently to the theme, the sync point was at the moment of Zen for both Altair and Ezio. The info he received from Altair was in 1, when he learned about the Templars, the conspiracy (through eagle vision), and the Pieces of Eden.
That doesn't really answer the question. I'm fully aware of what was presented in the games; I'm asking if there is any lore reasons, from a book or whatever, that Desmond isn't privy to the information that Altair has, that they've told us he has, Ezio has told us he has, and now that video tells us he has. Altair learned a lot between the end of AC1 and when you hop back in him in Rev, but for no apparent reason Desmond can't access that and find out what Altair knows, instead having to go round-about nonsense with setting up nexuses with Ezio and whatnot in order to get little tidbits from him. He was in him, he was living his life, they didn't give any reason why he couldn't just go back and find out the rest without jumping through hoops.

The reason he used Ezio to train instead of Altair? It was something to do with the earliest available sync point was in terms of how far it was from the memory Abstergo wanted to get, and Altair was already a master assassin there. They didn't go any earlier because it was irrelevant to them. He got busted to novice rank but it wasn't like he was learning new skills throughout ACI, just earning his weapons back, so Desmond wouldn't necessarily learn from what he did as Altair, just lived it. Desmond fast forwarded through all of Ezio's life, including his learning to become an assassin.
The knowledge from Altair they're talking about is the existence of the Apples and what the First Civilisation was all about. IIRC, in Revelations
Ezio didn't know what the fuck was going on, and accepted that he was just like the relay guy to get information from Altair to some guy called Desmond.
To why they didn't stick Desmond in the Animus 2.0 and relive Altair's life in full? Eh. Could just be that he was such a distant ancestor that the genetic memories have degraded after generations, or jumping in to the point of his life when they did in ACI permanently locked off any earlier memories, like Desmond can't learn stuff in the wrong order or something.
Oh. I assume Desmond only knows what he synced up to directly. Like, when you skip years, Des doesn't just "know" everything that happened. Otherwise they would sync him to the end of his life and be like "where was that apple again?" I also assumed that Des was not experiencing the Altair levels and those were just for a benefit (until the sync nexus) because Animusception is kinda silly. I could be wrong about the latter but I'm pretty sure I'm right about the former.
The "genetic memory" premise means that the Animus is only supposed to give Desmond his ancestors' memories up until the point where the genes are passed on to the next in line. I think it's in AC2 where we see Altaïr's rendezvous with the Templar, right? The one that ends with Desmond's view switching to the embryo's? Any knowledge Altaïr gained after that scene cannot be retrieved via the Animus.
Ezio becomes a father very late in life, which is why we see so much of him. They used some special TWCB magic (not the Animus) to have an excuse to see more of Altaïr's life in Revelations.
Can Desmond know anything that happened to one of his ancestors after they had the child that Desmond is related to? Like, all this is genetic memory, right? So the only reason Desmond knows anything about what happened to Altair after his last kid was born is because in Revelations, Ezio learned it via those magic frisbees.
Altair had a child much earlier in life than Ezio did and after that point, you can no longer use the animus to view their genetic memory. This was explained in the first game. The PSP game is the furthest in Altair's life we are able to go and he hasn't learned much about the apple by then.
As to the Rev parts where you control Altair, you are just experiencing recordings... I don't believe that you can access any stored memories of the subject from those.
Another reason for choosing Ezio over Altair to train Desmond was Altair being trained from birth while Ezio was trained at a later age made him a better fit? Plus he was a match with Subject 16, which was important for some reason.
I did like that take on what Desmond learned from Altair which considering all the unskippable dialogues (which I thoroughly enjoy) on the philosophy of the the assassin's creed versus the templar's make a lot of sense.

I don't know if I can expand on this, but my brain is insisting there is a difference between being trained (Altair) and being taught (Ezio).
Didn't have a Vita til very recently so just had to pre-order my copy of Liberation direct from Ubisoft for the best deal. If the PC game goes steamworks I should be sorted as I will have a £10 voucher to use against it there.
What makes you think it's an AC1 adaptation? There's a general description of the overarching franchise setup there, but I don't see any specifics. This could be a completely different storyline with the same basic premise, for all we know.
I suppose it could be in a different time period, but there's a reason the games started with the period when the real assassins and templars were actually active.
I agree it makes sense. I just don't see anything official to corroborate that. Also, the "tie-in" game might not be a "tie-in" at all; they are just saying they want the movie to premiere when a new game is coming out, which could be any November between now and 2038. ;-)
I really hope they stick to what they said and take a break from AC in 2013
But I am really looking forward to this
Fingers crossed.

I'VE GOT IT. I'VE GOT A WAY TO MAKE NINJA ASSASSIN'S FUN.

Revolvers, people still with swords, linemen, bombs, and the Shogunate being Templars while the Imperial side is Assassin.

it's funny, I thought one of altair's sons in assrev looked a lot like fassbender
we only saw one of them but he had the exact same face as Subject 16, which I believe was meant to imply that he was the one 16 was descended from and Desmond was descended from the other

I read Gai-Jin a bit ago. How about a group of Japan-based Assassins who fight against both Templars within the Shogunate and Templars from the European nations?

Not so much "taking a break" as "releasing hopefully awesome DLC about evil King Washington" but yeah.
