Dang. Steam had a Mafia II on sale about a month-ish ago. I might pick up the Joe's Adventure DLC though since I just paid more in lunch than the entire DLC pack for M2.
More good news, after years of never giving a fuck about Bioshock, after reading about Infinte, I've started looking around to see if I could find a decently priced bundle of 1 and 2. Hopefully, the 2k sale should help me out because seeing Bioshock 1 (and Dead Space 1, and Mass Effect 1) still at $20 is just freaking ridiculous.
Mafia II is well worth $7.50 just for the sequence where you drive home after disposing of a body while your buddies in the back seat drunkenly sing along to the radio and puke from a combination of their libations and lingering corpse stench.
Seriously, it's not the game it could have been, and it's certainly not the game a lot of people wanted and unfairly expected it to be (HERP DERP open world is so empty, where is my GTA with fedoras HERP DERP) but it's a fun cinematic experience with good atmosphere and some really solid action set-pieces.
If I had bought it for $40+ at release I would have felt it's too short for the money. I payed $15 for my copy and feel like I got a very reasonable value. $7.50 is a great price.

I was just thinking the exact same thing. It's even more ridiculous since Bioshock2 is also $20. How the fuck do you put your 3 1/2 year old game and its year old sequel at the exact same price?!?

Bioshock 1 has held that price because it is still a great game. Bioshock 2 has dropped to that price because it is a mediocre linear escort mission set in a rehashed hallway of the world of Bioshock 1. Arguably, Bioshock 1 should be $20 and Bioshock 2 $10.
Bioshock is one of those games that confuses me when it comes to purchasing.
I can't purchase the Mac version on Steam. But I can purchase a Mac version from Apple's App store. I've seen a couple of games like this, and it confuses me everytime. Why have a game on the Mac App store, with it's window's counterpart on Steam, but we won't put the Mac version in Steam.
Blerg.
I really need to just bootcamp my machine. Just need to get the cash for a Win 7 install. Then I could cry about things that have substance.

Hm. Mafia 2's demo didn't really do anything for me*, but I think I'll give Mafia 1 a shot at $2.50.
*I take that back. Being able to order a hot dog from a street vendor on the way to do some crime was the best thing about the demo. I knew that it was a bad idea since the vendor could potentially snitch to the cops later, but dammit, I wanted a hot dog.
You guys think Bioshock 2 will be on sale in the 2K sale?
I realize it's worse than part 1 (seeing as Ken Levine wasn't involved), but for 5 Euros I might think about it
If you enjoyed the gameplay of the first, the second is just more of that, with a weaker story. They do some cool stuff, but ultimately it's just more of the same.

Mafia 1/2 are tempting, but I have the entire GTA franchise sitting in my account untouched. I think I'm pretty safe with this sale, but if Civ 5 drops below $30 I think I won't have a choice in the matter.

I'd be surprised if they don't have a Bioshock Day. Regardless of what you think of Bioshock 2's quality as a whole, using the Drill Charge is probably worth whatever low price they'll have it for. :P
I need to do a drill-only playthrough one of these days.
Yeah, Bioshock 2 is not a bad game. In fact, its quite a good game when compared to a lot of other stuff. But its also no Bioshock 1.
I'd compare Bioshock 2 to Max Payne 2. Improved gameplay and weaker narrative, but still a fine game. (I might be biased since I wouldn't hesitate to peg Bioshock as my favorite franchise ever. I paid full price for BS2 at launch and loved every minute of it.)
[soothsayer]
Also, if you really want BioShock 2 (like me) and it doesn't go on sale on Steam, AND you don't mind owning non-Steam games, you'll be able to pick it up on April 14th on D2D for 75% off.
[/soothsayer]
And curly haired boy, we know your ulterior motives for wanting Dead Space 2 to drop in price.

Bioshock 1 has been $5 several times.
True. But if its normal price had dropped to something like $12 or less, its 75% off sale price would break my "it might as well be free" threshold of $3 and it'd be an instant purchase (backlog be damned).
Sale and the thread reminded me that I still Bioshock, but haven't played it due to sound not working. I found a solution that worked for some guy, which I didn't try. So now I'm downloading it and hope it works for me too.
I had that same problem with the demo. Turns out it was just outdated audio drivers, that I just needed to update, then sound worked. Game had terrible framerate for me, I think, but otherwise it worked.
Yeah, updating audio drivers was one of the things I tried. This solution was editing a config file and changing maxchannels from 128 to 64. And it worked! I know what I'll be playing the next couple of days.

Don't know if anyone posted this but Civ V is amazons video game deal of the day. THough it isn't that great a price. 29.99
Anyone thinking about this should consider that due to Steam's current 4-day long sale of 2K games, chances are that one of these days will feature Civilization games at a reduced price

So Radeon's got a pretty good deal going right now where you get a download code for Shogun 2, a Steamworks game, with purchase of some of their mid/upper end cards right now. Basically the 6850 through the 5870. Here' a list of the cards on Amazon, although I've seen this deal on NewEgg right now too.
What are my chances of Batman : Arkham Asylum going for cheap any time soon? £15 is not so shabby but I'm paying 2 MMO subs at the moment so cannot quite justify it. I have no real experience of Steam sales...

What blows harder all all of the DLC packs, although if you just have to get one, Joe's Adventures is the best.
Get Mafia 1. If you crave more, get Mafia 2 as well, but note that it is no where near the level of the first game.

I'm still amazed at how much the simple addition of iron sights helped the gameplay.
And yeah, don't buy CiV for that price, it's been way cheaper than that. It was $20 on greenman just last week
And totally worth it. Muahahaha...... kinda.
