i found king's bounty to be pretty lame, actually, just because the fights really didn't require much strategy. you just sort of walked forward and traded blows and spammed fireball or whatever until the opposite side was dead. also, you're only limited to five units, which doesn't seem like enough for much tactical complexity to emerge.

King's Bounty can be beaten without losing a single unit. There's lots of room for strategy if you're interested, though it can usually be brute forced as well. Opinions, of course, but I think King's Bounty is great.

    No, no, no.

Gish is pretty good times. You pretty much have to have a controller though. It's really hard to get by with the keyboard.

I can appreciate gish for what it's doing with physics-based puzzles and some of the puzzles are pretty fun (at least from what I've played up to) but holy shit I feel like I'm fighting the controls all the fucking time.

Maybe I'm using a keyboard, maybe that's the problem, but still, argh.

Yeah, most likely it's the keyboard. I thought it was a piece of crap too until I got a 360 controller.

Then I figured what the hell, maybe I should try it with a controller. I had fun!

Looks like he's using an app to create virtual LANs. I haven't used Tunngle (which he says to use) but I've used Hamachi for the same thing in other games (Freelancer). edit: I sent him a PM for you.

    Thank you, sir.

From what I've heard, the entire set of multiplayer options is flatly disabled in both games, including LAN. In addition to a tunneling service, he must also be changing a .ini file or deleting some files to enable the multiplayer options again.

I've been waiting for this deal (it was announced in february), but I really want to be able to play these games with my roommate and convince him to preorder as well.

Maybe not far off there. It may be a customer support issue, as in they don't want to support it so they yanked it.

I know they pulled multi in the first game because it was ran on Microsoft servers that are no longer up.

The second game uses gamespy. I'm wondering if maybe the multi there is gone because the gamespy deal is... ? Null somehow?

Honestly, it doesn't make any sense. Maybe they licensed LAN code from MS or something?

It's boggling. I just want to siege some dungeons with my buddies, damnit!

So I just did some digging around in Dungeon Siege II files to get it to have a decent resolution. Apparently, if you're using a newer card, you have to go in and edit the system_detail.gas, because all of the video cards are hard coded in. In order to open up all the awesome display modes, I just did some copy pasting of the settings in. Unfortunately, I have yet to figure out how to get it to recognize cards that are newer than 3dfx cards, so it limits you down to 32 meg, at best, video memory. The settings look like they can be configured for 64, but I have yet to figure out how to get the game to recognize that it can do that.

So it sounds like there's a lot of problems getting Dungeon Siege 2 to look halfway decent on modern computers. I remembered watching some guys play it on the Lan of the ship I was on and It looked pretty cool then. How does it hold up without the tweaks?

Anyone reach a point where they want their games to start merging together? I'm playing The Guild 2: Pirates of the Europeans Seas and really wish I could go 47 on my rivals and poison them in their homes, challenge them to duels after I sabotages the pistols, or dress my thugs up in their colors and frames everyone for murder.

Wait, I haven't played a game where that last one was possible. WEAK!

Yeah i've always wanted TF2 to merge with some Nexon games and...

Oh god what have I done.

EDIT: On a more serious note, Fallout 3/New Vegas would be much better with the shooting mechanics from STALKER in them as opposed to the kind of clumsy feeling non-VATS combat. And The Witcher could certainly learn a thing or two from some more fun action titles.

To be fair, New Vegas has an opposite problem from Fallout 3

VATS is nearly suicidally useless most of the time, and the real time shooting is far more accurate and useful

A mix between Sims Medieval and Guild 2 would have been great. Sadly I feel as a game, even though the graphics weren't that great and it was buggy Guild 2 actually feels more interesting.

Really wish Medieval wasn't so damn strict. Can't do anything unless on a quest, can only use the chars involved, will be pushed towards finishing the quest if you take too long. Have to do most of it over again after you finish the kingdom with maybe one hero with you.

I was kind of imagining Medieval as a sort of kingdom management game but where you had heroes who you sent out on quests and stuff and things to upgrade. It's sort of the same thought but not at all currently sadly, and not in a good way.

Combining The Sims with anything that uses weapons would be okay with me. I like The Sims, but they're a little too nice and clean for me.

Also (like I've said before), I would like a serious tactical CQB game like SWAT, where you go up against undead, fucking wizzards, and other occult thingies. Guns and tactics versus magical hodoo! :)

Back in the day, I longed for a XCom/Jagged Alliance/Layzor Squad-style game set in a stylized Marble Madness-environment. I don't know what sort of story would explain such a wonderful game, but I'm sure I could throw something together. :)

If you look around the ValveARG wiki, you can find an extremely short version of the Audiosurf song. It makes getting that potato SO much easier.

The ARG wiki links to a mutator that can fake the player count to make more enemies spawn. This makes each wave have 800 enemies. While it might sound impossible to kill that many enemies, beginner difficulty is extremely easy, to the point that weaker enemies don't even hurt you.
