Math problem

I took a math test tonight and there was a problem I coun't find an answer to and it's bugging the shit out of me. I put undefined as the answer, so lets see if I was right:

( y-8 )/5 + y/3 = -12/5

When I get through figuring it all out I get -3/2 but that doesn't add up.

Thanks for any help.

I get -3/2, too. Why doesn't that add up?

Indeed, assuming you are solving for y, the answer is -3/2. I even used my TI-89s solve function and it gives the same answer (hurray for being algebraically lazy).
