In the last page you all were talking about Pyros, and I've been looking into them and their abilities lately...
I've only got a 33 Rogue, so I know I can't really talk about end-game and all that. But seeing as I've experienced first hand that Pyro health can sometimes be as easy to cut through as a Cleric's with my Nightblade spec, and that they gib players about as easy as I do, and that unlike all else they can disarm me for 5 sec followed by a 8 second root followed by a 5 second stun... I have to ask "FFS why?!"
I ain't even mad, there's no QQ here. But while it makes killing a Pyro all that much sweeter, who thought it was necessary to shower them with decent survivability, ridiculous CC, and sick burst? And apparently in later levels I'll get the joy of being poly'd into a squirrel and hit with the equivalent of PoM-Pyro. Like, really? I hope there's a piece of the puzzle that I'm missing, a piece that leads to the very squishy insides of a mage or some such.
At least it seems that with a Nightblade spec I won 2nd place in the PvP lotto, with near immortal but ineffective Clerics taking 3rd and Pyros walking home with the grand prize. Haha...

Now look at pyromancers with 45 points in the tree, and 21 points in the right side of Archmage soul. Now they have amazingly high amounts of survivability, more so than any other calling, and amazingly high dps and cc.

Can someone explain how a mage hits (non critical) for over 1600 damage with a rank 2 lightning attack with a 2.5 sec cast time? Assuming somewhere around 200 base damage and 1000 spell power, that should be about 700 damage.
Bear in mind I was in justicar spec and had 18% reduced magic damage as well as an air resist of another 5% reduction.
So it was doing about 2000 damage (non critical). How is this possible/fair exactly? I don't get it.
Did they have the BS wings? Any debuffs? Full charge?
Even then all I can say is 'ololol mages are weak need buffs lolol' or something. Its funny how much whining about sab there was, when mages have been doing that kind of damage the entire time. Lately its just become available to more mage souls.
No red wings, this was world pvp.
I had 25% damage reduction (forgot my 2% base from valor.
So this hit was over 2100 damage before my reductions. I don't understand how mages get tripple damage... not to mention he had a 300 dps pet on me the whole time as well... Trion is going to have to address this stuff soon. Patch 1.2 is not doing it.
Well, if he was Elementalist/Stormcaller, I would guess that what led to this huge hit was:
Exposure, instant (no damage, adds 7% magic damage)
Raging Storm, 3 sec channel, 20 sec cooldown, adds 3 stacks of electrified. (Adds 9% air/water damage from talents)
Ice Shear, Instant cast (Adds another debuff for +36% air/water damage, requires 3 stacks of electified)
Intensify Elements, Self Buff (Increases elemental damage by 50% for 15 secs, 2 minute cooldown)
Static Flux, Self Buff, consumes charge (Increases air/water damage by 20%)
Lightning Strike, 2.5 sec cast, 10 sec cooldown (+15% damage with talents)
So, yeah, 6 seconds of setup, plus a couple of cooldowns blown, and he gets a big hit off of a 2.5 second cast (Second longest mage nuke), 10 second cooldown spell, on a low-cc spec. Not too far off what 5-point rogue combos or 3-point warrior finishers with cooldowns are/have been/should be, honestly. Want to know how to beat him next time? Interrupt Raging Storm as soon as he starts to cast it (it only starts the stacks after the first second of channeling). Without the electrified stacks, he'd lose out on +45% damage on that big hit, and it would completely cut all damage from Lightning Field or Cloud Burst (Which is what he probably finished you off with) as they are completely reliant on 3 stacks of Electrified. Alternatively, dispel the electrified effect on you if you can't interrupt him. Honestly, conversely to a Pyro mage, this was just an issue of you learning how to counter a given spec, more than the spec being overpowering. Don't get me wrong, I agree that pvp isn't anywhere near balanced yet, but it is at least improving, slowly.
Also, 300dps from an elementalist pet is just flat wrong. They're about 80-100 dps, pre-resist, double that with Intensify Elements up.
Now look at pyromancers with 45 points in the tree, and 21 points in the right side of Archmage soul. Now they have amazingly high amounts of survivability, more so than any other calling, and amazingly high dps and cc.
At the risk of becoming the official mage apologist here, the "dps" of that spec is going to be pretty bad, actually, with only some moderately high burst with cooldowns and a random proc. It doesn't even have the largest nuke pyros get, the 51-point Fulminate. Few people seem to realize, Pyro is actually the 5th place dps spec for mages. Stormcaller, Necromancer, Warlock, and Elementalist all beat it, often significantly, Pyro just has, ironically, the most burst potential with great cc and survivability.
Really, the biggest problem is what the Red Ball and ap/sp trinkets mean to a caster vs. a melee/ranged. For a melee/ranged (8 war specs, 7 rogue specs, and 3 cleric specs for dps), roughly half of their damage is from ap and half from their weapon base, so they only get half the bonus from these effects. On the other hand, the dps casters (7 mage specs and 2 cleric specs), spellpower is almost a full 100% of their damage (Just look at Lightning Strike from the last post, 200 base damage going into a 2000 damage spell), giving them twice the potential from the Red Ball and trinkets. Until this gets changed, pvp is always going to favor the casters.

We had a gigantic argument before the game started. It...really doesn't need to be revived.
And I say this as someone who was on the PvP server.
Haha I know it came off that way, but I was just kidding in my flame bait. Just wasn't sure if they had changed the ability to roll two factions on the same server or if people were still against OPvP.
it was literally 3 and a half hours in APx and didnt even complete

LOOKING FOR GROUP
* You can now use the new Looking for Group tool to queue for Dungeons, Rifts, or group quests with other players on your server!
* The Looking for Group icon has been added to the main menu tray in the lower left corner of the screen, and can also be opened with the default shortcut key 'I'.
* Select from the group roles available to you based on the roles you currently have saved on your character.
* Queue for specific dungeon or expert dungeon groups, or join the random dungeon queue. Once a group is formed, members will be teleported to the chosen dungeon zone.
* Rift and quest groups formed through the Looking for Group tool are not automatically teleported.
* Queue for group quests currently in your or your party members' quest journals from anywhere in the world and find others also looking to complete these quests!
* Additional rewards are granted for completing a random dungeon through the Looking For Group tool - these can be gained up to seven times per week but are not restricted in number per day, so you can do as many or as few as you like each day of the week up to the weekly cap. Save them all up for one day or spread them out; your choice!
* Additional restrictions based on gear also apply to forming groups for tier 1 and 2 Expert Dungeons through this tool.
GENERAL - INSTANCES
* Expert Dungeon Plaque of Achievement items have all received a power upgrade. If you already have these items, they will be boosted as well!
* Expert Dungeon final bosses are now guaranteed to drop an Epic item. No more finishing the dungeon and getting nothing but Rare items for the whole run. Epic items still have a chance to drop from the rest of the bosses in the zone.
* Some items have been weeded out of the Expert Dungeon drop tables that were very similar to others so you are more likely to see a wide variety of drops. Additionally, some items now drop from different bosses in order to spread out the range of drops available per fight.
* Your instance and raid lockouts are now displayed on a new Instances tab in the Character window.
Any advice on how to spec a champion? Or I guess I should ask, for optimal, single target dps, how should I spec my champion? Is champion and optimal dps a contradiction in terms? The problem I seem to be having is that there is a whole lot of utility stuff I would like in the tree that conflict with the pure damage shit.
Obviously the guild on Sunrest is the coolest. They have me. What could the other guild have that could possibly compete?
Honestly if you can stand some open world pvp, the pvp server is super active still. If you really dislike open world pvp, then the pve server would probably be a better fit. Theres no real reason to force yourself to deal with pvp if you hate it with a passion. If you can enjoy open pvp though.. i'm on the pvp server.. and im pretty goddamn awesome.

Well, thats that then. Looks like we're gonna have full on matchmaking. Cool for easier grouping. Honestly its my favorite part of any MMO anyway. And at least we're not having to wait years for it.
* Zone and Colossus Events are now easier to find. Zones that have active zone events now have a special icon next to the zone name on the main map. Mousing over the icon will display a tooltip showing the current progress of the event.
Ooh, this plus the increased chance for major invasions means purple shards shouldn't be impossible anymore.
* Fiery Burst: The damage-over-time component from Fiery Burst will no longer overwrite the same components applied by other Riftblades.
* Burst abilities in general: The debuff component on Burst abilities no longer overwrites debuff components applied by other Riftblades.

I hit 50 last night as well. I made sure to log into vent, say hi, then tell corrigan to stfu as soon as my cheevo popped up (ps, )
He's been on my ass since I hit 40, so I made sure to push that shit. I ran out of what I consider "efficient" quests so I took my overpwered mage ass out to the 50 mob section over stillmore and destroyed everything in sight with no downtime for 220k exp in a little over an hour.
How well does debuffing/cc do in PvP? I'm thinkin of getting rid of my total necro build (Since my Lock/Necro combo is high enough to have soul purge) and going total Dominator. I feel like opposing teams are so disorganized that if I could just take a healer and mage out for 10 seconds, we would have no problem pushing. But would my DPS sacrifice be too great since I normally top charts in kills and damage done?
Also, what is the immunity mechanic in this game like? Diminishing returns? Can't be CC'd for 15 seconds after coming out of a CC?

very tiny diminishing returns, letting cc classes keep someone locked down forever and makes pvp horrible somedays.
but if your a mage you might as well spec pyro so you can just kill anyone in 10 seconds.
I do, however, enjoy the sound of making pvp horrible for people. That way some dude can show up with his fancy flavor build and I can lock him down and make him bottom dps? yesssss.
