Don't worry. Little to no PvP happens in the open world. It was pretty fun when the game was released, but no one seems to care anymore about fighting in the open world. The only fun I have had in open world lately was when two guardian and defiant groups meet at raid rifts.

I get ganked (and killed, since inquisitors cannot pvp) every time I quest.
In addition, there's always guardians messing with our expert rifts. We win some, lose some.
This has probably been mentioned but as I checked steam I noticed that buying from the rift website is a full $30 cheaper than buying on steam not to mention you get increased xp and a title with the digital collectors edition.

Alright guys. As I near 50, I need to start thinkin about an alt. Help me pick one.
I want to be Melee DPS. I fucking hate dying.
I love peeveepee.
I hate carrying multiple sets of gear.
For example, I loved being a Chosen or Disciple of Khaine in WAR. I enjoyed being a Pally in WoW, but not as much as I enjoyed my warlock. AgiBlacksmith in RO.
That's what my main is and at Level 34 I can do very well in PvP with good healers. No healers and it's good game.
Rogue isn't too bad, either. I'm assassin/bladedancer I think? I don't know. It's my 20ish alt. I can give you the specifics later when I get home and on my PC. I'm at work right now.
I like PvPing with both of them. They are both great in their own way.
Is there a melee DPS class that is just impossible to kill 1v1(And I'm not worried about killing them, I just want to liiiive)? Sort of how tanks in war or pallies in wow would take several minutes to kill solo, to the point where it was more efficient to just run away than try to out damage their defenses.

Assassin has very few survivability options. Nightblade has many more but not near as stealthy as an assassin.
Champions have everything you need for pvp in their tree, and you can grab the instant full heal from Paladin easily enough. Pick up at least 2 in paragon for your Strike Like Iron ability and you're golden for pvp.
You can also pick a shaman spec for healer, gives you melee abilities and heals/shields for survivability. Pretty good damage, and easy to macro everything to a button. Probably a bit less damage than warriors, and way more survivability than assassin.

Yeah, basically. After 5 years on a wow PvP server my desire to engage in world pvp now and again is vastly outweighed by my desire not to be screwed with the other 99.9% of the time I'm not in the mood.
So my friend and I are going to try the trial later today and figure out whether we want to pick up the game before the memorial weekend sales end.
I'm having a real issue in deciding what I want to play as though... I've been looking through a number of souls and quite a few interested me. I know that I want to play either a Warrior, Rogue, or Mage; as a general rule healing isn't my thing. At first I was looking into Warrior, particularly Riftblade and Void Knight (plate with some magic sounded like fun), but I hear that Warriors have real issues in PvP. Is this the case for other people? Otherwise I might do something like a Riftstalker Rogue or Warlock Mage.
If it changes anything, my mains in WoW over the last few years have been a Warlock and a Death Knight, although I've also enjoyed Mages and Rogues quite a bit. Oh and the friend I will be leveling with will be rolling Chloromancer/Dominator if that makes some souls a bit more viable. We both like to PvP quite a bit, so if Warriors are kind of a fish out of water in bgs I'd rather pass for something else.
Oh and I hear racials don't really matter much; is that the case? Something about them being disabled in PvP? Thanks guys.
All right. Since blizzard can not find a reliable fix for their "Character not found" and "Disconnected from server" issue I'm really thinking about buying this game when my 7 free days expire.
Can someone point me towards what the most newbie friendly class would be? I've played around a bit with rogue and don't mind going ranger / saboteur / marksmen but I would also like to make sure my first character makes a real impact for me.

Paladin/Reaver used to be like that early on, and I keep wishing they'd be returned to their former glory. As it stands, the most succesful warrior PvP specs seem to be champion-based burst damage specs, they all rely on healers in order to survive, and are countered painfully well by a number of mage specs. (This changed briefly, but now that the diminishing return timer on snares is down to 15 seconds, warriors are fairly easy to control again.)
Melee rogues die a lot, but after the recent changes they also do a lot of killing.
You can make pretty much indestructible "melee" clerics, I believe they do really well against other melee classes, but they'll never accomplish much against any ranged rogue or caster.

Cleric. Shaman/Justicar/(inquis or druid or sent). You can also switch to inquis for ranged dps or some healer spec if it's required to win. 11 in justicar then whatever you want. You only need one set of gear for all of that.

You probably won't have much of a problem with any class since you have MMO experience, so I wouldn't go looking for the most noob-friendly class. With that in mind, I'd just go with whatever is the most fun. IMO rogue is pretty fun with the range of souls available (ranged dps options, the bard (support), riftstalker (tank), melee dps).

My Justicar/Shaman/Sentinel is nigh unstoppable with Mien of Leadership up.
So we get stiff once in a while. So we have a little fun. What’s wrong with that? This is a free country, isn’t it? I can take my panda any place I want to. And if I wanna buy it a drink, that’s my business.
So how would a build based on heavy tanking do in pvp? Does mitigation not carry over to pvp in the same way? And thanks for all the input.
I'd really like to try a shaman/druid build but I don't know if there is enough in cleric to keep me entertained throughout leveling. Rogue has saboteur and bard, which i'm very interested in. And I'm still trying to get a better feel for warrior soul combos, but I know paladin and warlord calls out to me.
So I'm currently a 21 Assassin with about 8 points in Bladedancer. Not really sure what to do with the third tree - I originally had Saboteur for the AE slow, but not really sure if it's worth switching to Bard for the AP buff. It's weird having a third tree you get almost nothing out of until way down the road.

For level 10-49, you'll want to focus on cleric's ability to bomb damage and bomb self healing.
At 48 cleric, I've been toying with this as my melee PVP spec. But I'm not doing nearly as well as a couple other clerics I've encountered who have mopped the floor with me.
Inquisicar is my overall favorite for everything, though.

If the faeblight people moved onto sunrest, I'd immediately resub because with that many people, you'd get some of the funnest stuff in the game. The best thing I experienced in this game was doing an invasion, and I was in a raid group with a couple of six mouths guys, and we were closing rifts and killing invaders. The boss gets unlocked and is in the center of the guardians and defiant. All the sudden there's this crazy 3 way battle of people who are trying to burn down the boss and/or burn down the other side. The boss dies, all of the sudden it turns into a huge battle with more than 25 people on each side fighting over, essentially, useless land. When the defiants won, we would start pushing back into guardian territory taking over their bases. If we were undermanned, they'd push on us, and you'd be trying to kite away members of their group to whittle them down.
