I'm not sure. I think it shows up with the "Requires Secret Armory" red tag over the item. Since I have a copy of Borderlands without Knoxx, I can test this out real quick.
I actually see the "Requires Secret Armory" red tag very briefly when items drop from boxes and when picking up items. I thought it was some bizarre subliminal message at first.
EDIT: It just becomes restricted. You can still see the weapon and stats and such. You just can't equip it.
yeah, as a whole knoxx would have been damn perfect with about 20 more fast-travel points
....or like any.
I get they had a car thing going on and that is cool but.....it's just annoying at times. That really breaks up the game flow for me. You can't sit down and just run through a quarter hour mission real quick.
Knoxx is fine while you're playing through the story of it when you get to hear all the recordings left for you by Knoxx and others. They break up the tedium of the long drives and that one stupid fucking run where you never know if you can drive through or if the road block is up again and you have to walk 10 miles on foot.
But once you're done, when you get those annoying "one single mission way the fuck back in the furthest away area with no other reason to go there but OCD", the lack of travel points is really annoying.
PC users can mod it, I guess. I never did. I probably should but for some reason there's a little part of my brain that feels like that is cheating so I don't. Stupid, I know but eh.
The funny thing is that most of the content mods for Borderlands are designed to make the game much harder. It's like using cheat codes to reduce your life by half or remove half of the good weapons in the game.
So I just beat my first playthrough about ten minutes ago
is it just me or was that the lamest ending to a game ever? yaaay you found the vault! just kidding it was really just a big boss. now have a lot of money. okay the end

You weren't the first to post about this, and you won't be the last. Welcome to the club. Now go play the DLC.
yeah going back through the pages this now becomes abundantly clear. i don't have a whole lot of money to burn, if i only get one DLC what should it be?
i don't really mind if it's not story-heavy or not, i'd just prefer something a little more than an endless grindfest (as i hear the underdome is)
Underdome gets a lot of shit but it's not really that bad.
It's incredibly short and the extra talent points are really nice.
It has a ton of flaws, namely lack of weapon experience, but again...its short. Particularly if you cheese it by having a low level friend create it so you can just destroy everything and still get your talent.
Aaaaanyway, if you could only get one DLC, I'd recommend Knoxx. IMO it had the highest quality and polish on various levels. It also isn't without its flaws but I believe it was the best.
Zombie Island was decent too, but it was just more to do. It didn't add any new weapons, types, or levels. Knoxx adds all those things. Claptrap gets a lot of flack but it was also pretty decent, but more in line with Zombie Island in that it doesn't actually add a whole lot to the game other than just more to do. It is a weapon treasure trove though, so that's always a plus.
EDIT: honestly, they're on sale so damn often (particularly for PC, but also on the 360) that I can't really recommend not getting any of them if they pop up. You can usually grab all 4 for $10 if you catch them right, total, which is less than the cost of so many DLC's these days, and taken together they really do add a lot to the game, as far as just new places to go and things to do.
Get the Secret Armory of General Knoxx. That's the best bang for your buck. Zombie Island is good, but doesn't offer much in the way of new gear or features. The Underdome is actually pretty fun with a group of friends, and it gives you a Bank stash which is incredibly helpful. I wouldn't get it unless you have a regular group of friends who play with you. Claptrap's Robot Revolution is the DLC you play after you've played all of the other ones. It's pretty good, in my opinion, but more Borderlands is always good in my book. If you are playing on PC, there are quite a few content mods out there that you can play, as well.
nice. all end-game lameness aside, i'm really really glad i bought this thing
i just convinced a bunch of my diablo ii buddies to LAN this with me over the summer 8-)
Can you play co-op with friends on different consoles / PC / Mac? I'm not too familiar with online gaming, but it would be pretty sweet if you could. Maybe I could get a friend to stop playing WoW for a half hour or something.

No, you can only play co-op PC-to-PC, or PS3-to-PS3, or 360-to-360. Not sure about Macs.

Using something called GameRanger from www.gameranger.com, you can play PC-to-Mac.
I'm forced to do it, since the Mac version doesn't support Gamespy, and although GameRanger looks like it's from the 1990s (and doesn't seem to support any games newer than those from 1990 either), it does seem to work and isn't intrusive in any way (at least not on the Mac).
(Just note that if you press "start" in GameRanger and don't see the <<starting game>> message in your chat before the game takes over, hit cmd-q immediately because that means GameRanger has crashed and Borderlands will go into an infinite loop which forces you to shut down your computer.)

This is a post about Moxxi, and not the DLC in general.
I thought Moxxi was pretty great. But I also felt it should have either been alot cheaper, or released as a free update (maybe bundled with another DLC). The bank should have just been a core feature to the game. Playing solo, Moxxi is lame. Playing with friends, Moxxi is a good fun. The lack of weapon experience SUCKS. Really Gearbox. I know why actual experience is turned off, but the fact that you can't level those rarely used weapons in a fun arena that pushes you to use your rarely used weapons is wrong. But that's it. It scales, always providing a good challenge, and it's very fun with friends.
I also think there should have been some baseline guaranteed weapon level drops at certain points (unless this is the case and I never noticed before). For example: guaranteed purple quality random gun drop at round 5, then guaranteed purple plus one random legendary round 10 (maybe that's a little generous, but you get the idea).
so is it normal to not find any eridian weapons in your first playthrough? i just started PT2 last night and i'm already finding some boss hog shit, but no zappy shooty lasers yet

I found a shitton once I got to the Eridian promontory; I'm surprised you didn't find any at all.
Also, I found that (at least on PT1) the Eridian weaponry carves through shielded human soldiers like a madman. Dunno about PT2.
The eridian pistol that shoots the 3 bouncing balls is fantastic and probably the only reason I beat the game originally in my super underleveled siren.
I seem to remember picking one up to dick around with that ended up being absurdly powerful in the whole Eridian section.
Maybe I'm thinking of a sniper I got, Odin or Thor or something. But I do distinctly recall getting one of the alien weapons at one point and having it be quite powerful.
For the most part they were ignorable. Maybe they were a lot better if you leveled them up but meh.
An Eridian Lightning got me through a lot, until I leveled past its usefulness. That fire rate is awesome for a sniper rifle, and the shock damage is great, too.
The shotgun is the only one worth using. It's electrical so it works pretty well against enemies with big shields. But it's awfully situational. It works really well against sledge for example.
so is it normal to not find any eridian weapons in your first playthrough? i just started PT2 last night and i'm already finding some boss hog shit, but no zappy shooty lasers yet
I really really really thought that the Crimson Lance dude you fight at the end of the Backdoor segment always has an Eridian cannon.
Lightning and the shotgun are both quite useful once you get some skill (and with +tempest electrical bonus). The rest are kinda meh. Knoxx adds a bunch of new ones with some other elemental types. None of them terribly impressed me.
Still, playing through without ever having to think about Ammo was pretty fun.

The Eridian Flaregun from Knoxx is pretty funny albeit useless. I just find it amusing that it sets things ablaze without firing a visible projectile. It'd be almost mediocre if the effective range was further than spitting distance.
Eridian weapons are poop once you hit P3 since normal weapons come is such amazingly powerful variations. Also nobody has an Eridian specific talent tree, making them even more useless.
No, Lilith with her +elemental effect, +fire rate and +bullet velocity (the major problem with the cannons is how slow the projectile is) is pretty close to Eridian specialized. Well, for certain values of specialized. The Eridian promontory was pretty hilarious since practically everything just evaporated in front of the Eridian shotgun.
Also the Flare gun does fire a visible projectile....sometimes. I think the graphics for it are just bugged. Most of the time it is invisible (which is kinda amusing, watching dudes over there just burst into flame) but I've seen it fire an arcing cloud of fire sometimes. I think the first time was in Lockdown palace for me. Confused the hell out of me.
Oh this reminded me.
WHY THE FUCK DOES RADIANCE APPEAR ON SO MANY FUCKING SIREN CLASS MODS?
Sorry, this has been bugging me. The class mods for Siren's are just annoying and plenty of skills simply do not appear on any of them while other, near fucking useless skills, appear on half of them.
