Cannot wait for this game based on what I have seen. I like the design of Maya a lot as well and the new skill trees seem a lot better. Really keen for this and that trailer? Magnificient. Just magnificent.

Well, the healer in BL1 was a muscle-bound, armored dude, so I don't think you can really assume Maya having healing abilities is a result of her gender. Besides, it's already been implied that all the characters will have more team-oriented abilities than the first game, so I doubt she's the only one who can spec for healing.

I wonder who the close up character is then? the gunzerker doesn't seem to sound particularly speced out for that, and the turret wouldn't seem like it would lend itself to that. I would think the ninja, but (s)he was said to also be a sniper class.

I don't know, gunzerker sounds like the ideal close-combat class to me. Get right up in your enemies' faces dual-wielding shotguns or assault rifles and go to town.

At the very least, I'm more inclined to think that he'll have a close-range focus simply because I can't imagine how dual-wielding sniper rifles would work, though I'm sure Gearbox will find a way to make it so (and it will be awesome).

I like how Maya's power set is unique from Lilith's. I'm guessing Borderlands the Third will have a Siren named Nora.

The seven Sirens all having different abilities was actually mentioned in the first game's backstory bit. Of course, they're screwed if they ever get to Borderlands 8.

You mean like Farcary 3?! In the trailers defense it DID show the game. How many actual gameplay videos do we get for anything? "None" wouldn't be a wrong answer. So they can be forgiven for spicing it up some.

Yes there is. It's called "The Fallen" and has Roland prominently displayed on the cover. It was written by the same guy who did the Bioshock novel. I had no idea it existed and bought it as soon as I saw it on the shelf.
According to Kindle I'm 53% into it...and I'm having a very hard time going forward. Here are a few of my criticisms (based on just reading half the book so far):

-I understand the need to explain the universe in the beginning of the book. Perhaps someone who is not as familiar with the game is picking up this book and so you would need to describe what a skag is and looks like...however the author re-explains what skags (and all other creatures) look like repeatedly throughout the book. To me it feels more like padding than trying to build atmosphere or tension in a scene.

-He focuses on how harsh it is to survive on Pandora, which it is, however it's almost too bleak compared to the tone of the game which has a lot of juvenile-yet-charming humor.

-Lack of emphasis on guns. Perhaps this is more of a personal taste issue. When you think Borderlands, you think guns. I'm halfway through the book and people having guns is almost an afterthought. Though guns have been fired occasionally there have been no real firefights. I'm halfway through a Borderlands book and there have been no firefights. Let me restate this a third time. I'M OVER 50% THROUGH A BORDERLANDS NOVEL AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO FIREFIGHTS. Instead most fights so far have been resolved by surrendering and talking or another character does something sneaky.

-I also was expecting more descriptions of the guns (gun porn if you will) but none of that. The manufacturers and their unique properties are a really neat part of the game and I think it would be neat to hear that expanded upon in the novel. I realize that could bore others.

-One more gun point, the author places a lot of value on Eridian weapons. I know alien technology is the macguffin of Borderlands but having played the game I think a lot of people would agree they aren't that special to actually weild, but having one in the novel makes you super dangerous (even though they hardly fire the damn things). Again, this could be just a personal prejudice.

-Roland is on the cover, but he is not the main character. He's a somewhat prominent side character but has had little face time compared to the other three characters. Those characters of which I don't really care about and one of them did something that made me lose any affinity I might have had for her. I'm having trouble remembering but one of the other vault hunters might have been mentioned. If they were it was very quick and didn't make an impact.

-Weird conceits to the game. The author ignores a lot of the "video-gamey" aspects of the world and writes around them, like he should. However one thing that really bothered me is that he went out of his way to describe why all the bandits look the same and actually explained why some are called badasses as apart of some bandit caste system. In my opinion it would have been better to not explain any of that. I suspend disbelief while playing the game, I don't really need to believe all the bandits are the same looking or that they really call themselves badasses for a logical reason.

-Writing style. For the most part it's been decent but the author likes to, in my opinion, overly explain mundane actions. For example (this is not in the book).
Instead of writing, "He picked up the book and left the room."
He may write, "Harold gripped his hand around the book and deftly inserted it into his bag which hung slack around his shoulder. He then approached the grey door before him and opened it from the handle and exited."
That's a bid of an exaggeration but it feels this way sometimes and other authors do it as well. I would rather the book be shorter than padded with sentences like these that add nothing to the narrative.

So to be fair here are a couple things I kind of liked about it:

-Roland is pretty likeable. At first it was weird to read any characterization or dialogue from him since it didn't really mesh with how I heard him talk in my head but I got used to it.
-The bandits are pretty entertaining and they basically can take so many bullets because they're insane out of their minds.
-Some of the expanded fiction is interesting, like talking about other planets and some details on space travel.

I would like to finish it someday to see what happens and if it gets any better but at the point I'm at I kind of don't give a shit. Unfortunately this made me a little less interested in the Bioshock novel as well.

I don't think Zero looks bad, but he doesn't do much for me.

This is Gearbox, there's no way they'd give us just a ninja. (S)he's probably a ninja robot cyborg that is also a pirate, who turns into a WereBrick under the light of a full moon - which from all the screenshots is all the time on Pandora now.

Expansion confirmed: Zero teams up with resurrected Knoxx to keep Marcus's arsenal out of the hands of... the... evil ninjas. Yeah.

This trailer was not for those who cannot appreciate buzzwords like "joy puke" and "bazilliondier". I know these are industry-standard terms that we hear a million times about every game that comes out, but it's just something gamers have to get used to watching early trailers.

Seriously though, it's pretty standard fare content-wise. Look at other trailers for a game that are 7 months out, the ME3 E3 2011 trailer for example: a bunch of limited quick clips outlining features and plot elements for the game. Shepard can't do dubstep though, so Bioware's hands were tied on music selection.

I thought the trailer was fine from a gameplay perspective, personally. It showed or confirmed the following:

    -Every character
    -Every character's action skill
    -4-player vehicles
-New skill trees (and some of a character's skills)
    -New enemies
    -New UI

That's pretty damn decent as far as I'm concerned.
