You are totally right. And even though I'd call most if not all of Grasshopper's games mediocre, I still like them because of how fucking weird they are.

Yes, this would be awesome. Travis Touchdown, Garcia Hotspur, pretty much anyone from Killer 7, and what's-her-butt cheerleader from Lollipop Chainsaw. They'd fit in just fine.
I have such a boner for this game right now. And I didn't even know it existed prior to a random thread search looking for Chainsaw Lollipop which resulted in my stumbling upon this quite by accident. What a happy accident.

There is a demo of the game going up this thursday (may 31st) on the japanese PSN and Xbox live. It will have english as an option along with online multiplayer (4-player DM and 4v4 TDM, six characters to choose from) and some story mode gameplay. The actual game comes out july 5th in japan and will have all languages available. So if it isn't region locked then thats an option. (http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2012/05/anarchy-reigns-delayed/)

Right now I'm just mashing like crazy and freaking out when anyone is attacking me. I can't wait until the full game is out, looks like they have a mode to learn combos.

I will also point out that one of the giant foes was named Cthulhu. A game where you can punch out Cthulhu. Nice.
