    Elizabeth Warren for President!

Also, an interesting juxtaposition watching Ron Paul yesterday and Elizabeth Warren today. She does seem to have since been trained, just a little, to say "middle-class families' a lot though.

The pepper spray one shouldn't, because spraying that little shit was totally justified, and what pisses me off is how bad the Colbert writers fucked that one up. Before he got sprayed, he'd chased the teachers and other classmates into a storage closet, and was trying to batter down the door with a cart. When the cops arrived, he'd pulled off a piece of wood trimming and sharpened it to a point. How do you physically disarm and restrain a psycho little fucker like that without a pretty decent risk of injury to himself and the officer?

I suspect it's not so much training as it is habitual from having to beat ideas through the skulls of various people in DC :P

    Jon Stewart. Is. Pissed.

You mess with 9/11 and the people involved and you've instantly earned his eternal contempt.

Episodes/issues that he and Colbert feel passionately about aren't always the funniest, but they're often among my favourite all the same. With Colbert it's often regarding people being particularly goosey regarding his shared faith, and it's something I appreciate greatly; he has his beliefs, doesn't force them on anyone, and seems to take very personal offense when others don't show that same measure of discretion and restraint.

On an unrelated note, I loved Jon's response to the 'indigo child' woman. Seriously, those people are batshit crazy.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigo_children
In a Dallas Observer article discussing Indigo children, a reporter recorded the following interaction between a man who worked with Indigo children, and a purported Indigo child:

“ "Are you an indigo?" he asked Dusk. The boy looked at him shyly and nodded. "I'm an Avatar," Dusk said. "I can recognize the four elements of earth, wind, water and fire. The next avatar won't come for 100 years." The man seemed impressed.”

Readers of the Dallas Observer later wrote in to inform the newspaper that the child's response appeared to be taken from the storyline of Avatar: The Last Airbender, an animated series showing on Nickelodeon at the time of the interview. The editor of the Dallas Observer later admitted they were not aware of the possible connection until readers brought it to their attention.

Did that kid just use Avatar to fuck with a reporter? And if so, I propose that child runs for President.

I have a super hard time believing that police couldn't restrain an eight year old with a sharpened stick.

Dear God how did the Colbert writers miss this:

In response, Davis goes on, "one of the officers pulled out the pepper spray and tried to squirt it, and the child blocked it with a cardboard box. So the officer reached around the box and squirted once -- and the child dropped the long piece of wood and the cardboard box and the situation was defused."

I have a super hard time believing that you can state the essential problem, and still be oblivious to what it is. RESTRAINING the kid means getting into physical contact with him, and that puts the officer AND the kid at risk. Maybe all the cops where you are are super ninjas who can teleport behind you, grab your weapon, and teleport away again, but this was a kid who'd made himself a shiv, and was trying to break down a door to stick it in his teachers and classmates. Think about the injuries that could arise from an adult forcibly disarming and restraining this struggling kid, or what happens if the kid gets a lucky shot in. Just because he's eight doesn't mean it doesn't count if he jabs you in the eye.

Of all the available options, the pepper spray was the one with the least net risk to everyone involved.

Yes, an eight year old is going to stab you in the eye. He was the Lebraun James of eight year olds.

Seriously, though, just grab him by the wrist. Maybe you'll get a splinter or something, but the paycheck you get is mainly based on you acting as target practice for bank robbers. Hell, let him stab the cardboard box and get the shiv stuck in it. I really doubt any of this could possibly be worse than the original plan of turning a kid with a shiv into a blind, flailing kid with a shiv.

Hell, if he had the means to carve something sharp enough to be an extreme threat, why aren't you more worried about the knife he used to carve it?

I read about this story in the newspaper, and from what I understand the main reason they didn't attempt to physically subdue him is that they were afraid of physically harming the child, they were afraid that if he resisted enough he could've winded up with a broken bone or worse. They made an assessment on what could happen, and pepper spray was what seemed the least forceful, since as far as I know it hasn't left a lasting injury on the kid.

Colbert is, as far as I'm aware, a devoutly religious man, to the degree that he has taught sunday school (no idea if he still does). As such, those who would corrupt Christ's teachings drawn his ire and scorn pretty swiftly.

The first one that jumps to mind was when Bill O'Reily and some other Fox asshats were trying to twist Christianity from a charitable nature to a more Republican "fuck the poor, bootstraps bitches!" kind of thing.

A quick google search indicates this episode took place somewhere around Dec 17th 2010.

I'm more than willing to hear someone out, even if I know I don't agree with their politics, if they are honest with where they stand. Bernie Sanders is one of those few really principled guys, and it's really refreshing even though I don't slant to his politics. I'm much more likely to give him the benefit of the doubt in terms of where he's coming from over people that may purportedly be closer to my political stances.
