Not that Battlefield 3 doesn't look like one of the prettiest games ever made, but those shots don't look much different than some of the Bad Company 2 promo shots in terms of quality:
Yeah, the magazine extending through the bottom of the gun is pretty funny. I always love seeing pics from alpha versions of these games for stuff like this.
What the fuck did the internet do? I don't get it, they announced this like 6 months ago, so they reannounced it?
Yes, there are stupid people on reddit. Reddit is not one singular entity. You'll notice that the top commenter is telling off the idiot who made the stupid title.
Meh, reddit has a very strong hive mind mentality. Oops I have my comments sorted differently than you. I am surprised that got votes at all, reddit usually isn't very rational.
Reddit tends to jump on the rational stuff late, but it usually makes it to the top of "best" well before the thread is dead.
I hold my upvotes.

Pretty happy with the Physical Assault Pack compromise. Back to Karkand still seems strange ("massive" expansion pack... with four maps? "Themed" despite being the same setting and theme as the main game?) I could get Vietnam being a full expansion pack as it was a total change of everything (right down to the menu), but Karkand... eh.
The biggest question though is still Steam. Or if the game will be automatically linked to Origin no matter where you buy it, ala G4WL or Steamworks.
I like that a(nother) competitor to Steam is coming, but it should stand or fall on its own merits - if BF3's sales slump because it's tightly integrated to a bad online service, that may well reflect on BF3 from an EA Executive point of view. Being forced to use Steam for Valve games back when the service was still new and pretty horrible is not an experience I want to go through again. That, and I have absolutely no faith in EA to either 1) deliver a good online platform, or 2) support anything they do beyond a month.
Can't watch that at work, but do knife kills have that long animation that it had in the first MP trailer? Cause I'm happier with that than the BC2 and MW way of handling it.

Doesn't show that. It does show him drawing the knife, which takes about a second. That second will be crucial in MP, I think. No 'press melee to teleport into mans and stab him' like CoD. Gotta get that sucker out fast if you want to get the drop on someone.
I think that there's 2 types of knife. One is a quick attack that, I think takes two hits to kill and you don't get a dogtag and then there's the selectable knife that can be a one-hit kill, has the animation and you get a dogtag.
But this was all said by dudes who played the ,possibly pre-alpha, demo at E3.
Yeah, one knife, two types of attack. Or modes or something.
Quick attack to finish off a guy if you run out of ammo. Hopefully.
and
Selectable dedicated weapon mode for sneaky Rambo killin. God... I just imagined the amount of "L33t Sniporz" that are going to see that animation. Glorious.
Should be melee buttstock attack that takes a few hits to kill but may also cause stunning. Bring out the knife as a individual weapon for one hit back attack or two hit frontal.
I'd like them to just remove the knives period, they haven't been balanced in any military shooter since...ever? I really think it'd make for a better game without them period.
They were pretty fine in BF2 when they were hard to hit with because of the terrible melee hit rego and range.
Dedicated weapon slot is important though, so people don't just hit the panic 1 hit KO lockon move when they're close. If someoen has to pull it out, unless they're behind you or you're out of ammo it gives you time to destroy them.

No, because knifing snipers (and also anyone else) is satisfying as hell.
Knife as a silent kill weapon with the animation is fine, the quick knife mode with multiple hits to kill someone also sounds good. There only should be a moderate amount of lock-on and lunge should be very small, if present at all. Otherwise we could easily see CoD-like fights, with the small difference that enemies only die from the knife attack if some gunshots hit them in the run&gun fight before.
The difference in accuracy between standing/crouching/prone positions and walking or running should also be noticeable - that way we get more fire-and-maneuver and less gunrunning.
Too early to say anything about the finished game, but the current version is definitely heading in the right direction. I'd really like to see the vehicle damage model and how hard it is to destroy tanks as infantry.
In Battlefield Play 4 Free there is a knife button, 3, it does not take out a knife it only stabs. Kind of weird.
On a related not, fuck that game, fuck that fucking piece of shit game. I tried to play it, it isn't bad...but first of all there is no in game options, so to adjust my mouse sensitivity I had to exit the game, lower it, and then join a game again over and over until it was right.
Also to get any of the good weapons you have to buy them, with e-buck or with earned points in the game. They are a lot. The starting weapons are shit as well. For example I unloaded nearly a clip on a guy, he just turns around and kills me in one burst. Fuck.

The problem with Origin is that price of new games is more expensive than the prices that EA games have on Steam. For example, Medal of Honor 2010 on steam's AU store is $69.99 USD whereas on Origin its $79.99 AUD.
It depends on the country, Thailand and India get games for like $20-25.
Here in Mexico BF3 shows up at $49.95
Edit: Steam isn't the greatest thing ever, I forgot that they also region-lock stuff for no good reason. For example, I can't get that new Portal DLC thing, even though I live right next door to the US and I could easily get the hydra if I wanted to, by paying for shipping from the U.S. which wouldn't be too expensive.
A lot of deals never show up on Steam for me, and I just remembered, when Bad Company 2 was lowered to $19.99 on Steam, they lowered here in Mexico to $29.99 and it's remained there since.
Other examples, ME2 = $49.99 (US is $19.99, GTA complete pack not available, etc.

A good deal of people are lacking in common sense though.
I do wonder how people thought the developers would magically make the console's hardware better. That being said, I do know a good deal of people who don't know much about computers outside of "They let me post messages on facebook and check my email." and they probably think you make them run better by inserting discs in them or something.

The main single player campaign is not co-op. There will some kind of separate mini-coop campaign that is supposedly some kind of hybrid between single player and multiplayer.
Choose your vehicles and your loadouts and fight endless hordes of monsters for a highscore
I keep waiting for one of these military simulators to deal with monsters instead of generic enemy human soldiers. I want to protect a military convoy in my helicopter against a swarm of dragons or something<3

God, Im so torn about this game. On the one hand I want it, like now. But on the other its going to result in me dropping like $1200 on a computer...
I was able to get a new Battlefield 3 worthy machine for a very affordable price, so you should probably try out this method:
Step 1: Win a Battlefield 3 worthy machine at a raffle during pax east.
Step 2: Make a smarmy and obnoxious post in this thread about how you won a computer in a raffle at pax east.
Choose your vehicles and your loadouts and fight endless hordes of monsters for a highscore

Yeah that too. I like the bullshot of the medic there :P
I'm going to assume someone, marketing, took it to show off BF3 isn't going to be covered in sand.
Also, you might want to sit down or something but that tank crew member isn't holding on to anything.
I really missed the whole pop up / duck thing from BF2.

Late Edit: BF3 on PS3 looks pretty damn good. Short ass gameplay tho, time constraints and all I guess.

Knife has returned to a dedicated weapon slot, this confirms it.
