Are nukes just not viable for the top players? I can't remember if I've ever seen them used in a tournament game.
i mean, there are just a lot better ways to go about doing the things a nuke does oftentimes (drops, is the main example -- oftentimes dropping like a medivac or two worth of bio and stimming will do more damage than a nuke would)
secondly, ghosts are not used nearly as often as they probably should be in tournament games considering how good emp is
but even if a dude is using ghosts, nukes still aren't more than a humiliation tactic anyways
there are some creative uses of them that really shows how good they are, but they are definitely a situational tactic that is oftentimes outclassed by other tools the terran has at their disposal
edit: for example, denying an opponent an expansion in a lategame situation by continually nuking its worker line so they can't mine from there
this was done in a fairly high level game recently if memory serves
qxc did that
tlo has used them to cause enemy tanks to unsiege... but most of the time the enemy is gonna have a scan so I can't see it being regularly worth it. unless you are tlo and randomly nuke a fleet of vikings.
To be fair, the cost is pretty high if you don't NOTICE that they're denying you an area with a nuclearfrickin'bomb.
A good player isn't going to miss that. At worst, they might not know exactly where it is (sometimes the dot can be hard to see) but in that situation you just protect the areas you don't want to get nuked. Move away all your probes, and shift your army a bit.
As Idra is killing his enemy he drops two geysers, injects and builds a hatch, what a badass.
Pretty much standard play really, even if you're sure your opponent is dead, you always want to keep macroing just on the off chance your opponent is delaying until his 12 ultralisks are done or something like that.
This is also why offensive gging is considered such bad manners, because you're effectively saying "without even seeing your whole base I know I fucked you good, you have no chance." it may be true, but its arrogant.

I had someone offensive gg me the other day. I knew I was screwed and would have surrendered normally, but instead I got busy at my remaining expansion and covered the whole base platform with cannons. He threw his army against it, lost it and quit. Winnar
That was amazing
Cruncher - rematch?
Idra - fuck off
Cruncher - I am playing Naniwa in TSL next who are you playing?
Idra - the fact that anyone loses as your race is mind boggling
Idra with more get outs and fuck offs

idra is fucking bad, he plays the same dude and gets marine harrassed by the same guy twice in a row and has no solid reaction to it, and then when he sees the dude going hellions he doesn't even react and pulls his drones to act their blue flames

It's not all about being cost effective, it's about not having to make roaches against T.
I may be posting replays here if things start to go haywire.
