Well, even though I haven't logged onto Steam for a few weeks or so, I see that I can help the cause by playing Defense Grid right now. Considered the cause helped!
Well, Ive been doing my part byplay Hopscotch in SMB for over an hour. Still can't beat the freaking level. Grrrrr. Maybe I'll try Meat is Death a bit...
I'll also ask again. Anyone have any idea if I'll be able to run Portal 2 at all? Even with the settings turned down? I handle Portal 1, Half-Life 2 and Mass Effect just fine... and can run ME2 with things turned down a bunch.
Its an Intel Duo 2.2GHz T7500 with a GeForce 8600M GT graphics card.
My mouse is hovering over Buy... I just see that 3.0 GHz recommendation and am.. nervous...
I could have played Portal 2 at the same time if I had ordered it with free delivery on the internet. And for cheaper.
On the plus side, I've moved past annoyance to amusement as to how much they suck at promotions, so there is that.
Would you say we got...
potat-owned?
After the whole potato sack ARG thing started, I've been saying this every time I kill some motherfucker online in Mount and Blade: Warband. It's actually gotten me temp banned on several servers but I don't give a shit.

Try Alien Swarm on it. It's based off the same engine and has the same requirements as Portal 2, and although it obviously isn't the same game, it may give you an idea.
For what I can see, though, I don't see a problem with the specs.
edit: and that 3.0 GHz recommendation is only for a single-core machine (Pentium 4 as its reference). It wants a 2.0 GHz dual core machine, which is what you meet.

Wow, Im an idiot.
Well, I'll run out the clock playing SMB,then buy the game and let it Download overnight. I have tommorrow off work, so Ill enjoy it then
The fear is, once we start, CAN we stop and go to bed?
I'm not sure how this is going to work out. Especially since I may be out all of tomorrow, meaning the earliest I might get some time in on the game will be Wednesday night.
I've tried to be as positive as I could be over this whole thing, as has been evidenced in this thread and others, but I've gotta admit that being able to sneak an hour or so in with a digital midnight release after putting countless hours into Killing Floor (and potato'ing in a few others) is a bit bittersweet.
I'm not ragin'. I do appreciate getting new faces onto the KF servers and had a blast shooting mutants and wielding doors with fine PA'ers and PuGs alike. But seriously... an hour or two ago would've been nice. 4-6+ would've been golden.

I just wish Valve had been more upfront about just how "early" this game is going to be released. If they'd been honest and said "Yeah, buy this other pack of games and grind the everloving shit out of them and we'll release Portal 2 a few hours early, around midnight on a work week", I'm guessing the community response would have been underwhelming. While people were perhaps naive for believing it would be released days earlier instead of hours, Valve certainly did nothing to quash that belief, and monetarily benefited from it. It's certainly their right to do this with their product if they want to, but I can't help hoping they're more honest and transparent about things in the future.
Man, I wish Valve would let me fucking preload the game already. I preordered 4 or 5 days ago, but every time I try to get it to preload it tells me their servers are being hammered. I've downloaded Potato Pack games just fine since then, they just really don't want me to be able to play Portal 2 as soon as it unlocks.
Meat Boy is close to being complete. I challenge you all to beat my time on 2-16 SYNJ and 1-18X WHITEWASH (yes, they are glitch free times!). Steam ID is below

Um, duh?
They almost certainly had a contractual agreement with either Gamestop or Sony that the game would release on April 19th. They never had any intention of releasing it any earlier than 0:00 04-19 and the "Potato Sack" website is as scripted as the rising and setting of the sun.

I won't lie to you. It was really hard to stop playing and study, which was something I knew I had to do.
... are you seriously going to spend every last minute you can rubbing it in that you've supposedly played? 'Cause it's kind of a goose'y thing to be doing in a thread full of people who have (in general) been struggling to get the damned thing out a few hours early all weekend.

Hey guys, this is probably a good time to update your video card drivers if you haven't in a while. Just a reminder, might improve performance, even if it's not specifically tweaked for Portal 2 yet.

When all this hubbub started, I found the idea of EA or Gamestop allowing this to happen before 4/19 really...weird.
Not to mention there are midnight releases going on tonight.

Ok so I see a DVD copy of the PC version on Amazon for $35 and am temped to buy. Having never used Amazon before, do they send an email with the code, or would I have to play the waiting game for the disc to arrive?
I'm surprised at anyone talking about EA or Gamestop being pissed about anything. With the rampant, unadulterated success of Steam, I think some people don't quite realize the power of Newell.
When it comes to publisher power:
Steam > EA > Gamestop.
Anyone at any publisher who thinks otherwise can lick Valve's salty cajones and promptly not have their game offered through Steam.
Any day of the week and twice on the portal-induced apocalypse.

If it's a disc copy, you'll have to wait. Codes are for their downloadable service.
Well, this is going to be the first launch of a Valve game I've missed, ever. Work ran over just eough that I missed the bus that would have gotten me home in time, so I'm going to miss it by over an hour.
Looking at it that way, I guess it isn't TOO bad. Still sucks, especially since if one person didn't give an utterly useless testimony that ran on for 15 minutes, I would have caught it.

No, all I was saying is that he's he's on the right track. I was supposed to study all day but then I spent 4 freaking hours playing instead. I feel guilty about it now, but damn.

It ain't the same Source engine anymore.

I'll be touching my disk all day tomorrow at my desk, just thinking about putting myself into some of those vertical rifts tomorrow night. Mmm.

Yeah, well I just tested out Alien Swarm. Ran pretty well for the type of machine this is.
And I guess I can always just co-op with my PC buddy on my PS3.

Joined forces probably means "Killed with a neurotoxin" given GLaDOS.
So we're probably not any more doomed.
