I just figured out why the "SERVER IS BUSY" on PA so much recently.

GLaDOS is SKYNET and is syphoning off processor power from the server farms of the world.

I think the timer has become a literal projection, as in, they are assuming it will take an hour for us to finish Amnesia and Defense Grid.

KF was probably supposed to be the last one to finish, hence the small time removal.

Also, I just saw a good theory - because it had only been 8 minutes since the last recalculation, the timer didn't have much it needed to adjust by.

Welp, I give up for the night. In the end, Valve really did manage to disappoint me. The countdown on the [email protected] page no longer corresponds to some theoretical progress bar, it's now directly tied to system time. Previously if you refreshed between updates of cpu/release timing, the time would continually reset to the start of that 'chunk'. Now if you refresh, the countdown continues perfectly.

There's really no more damning evidence showing just how fixed this was, and how impossible it would have been to accomplish. The targets were set purposefully out of reach, and the potato counter was only triggered in such a way as to rebuild excitement after it was clear the early release wouldn't happen as of Sunday.

I'm not going to be so melodramatic as to claim Valve lied. But I think this is a pretty piss poor showing for them, and I'll certainly be a lot more leery of anything like this they decide to run in the future.

Pretty sure that all the bars needed to be full for this to finish.

If that's the case, then no bar was "worth" more than the other, it was just that Valve only adjusted their predictions when the bars completed. So the people claiming that finishing Killing Floor would finish it all were basing it off of an erroneous assumption.

I figure it'll release at 9pm PST. Defense grid will likely finish by then and knock off the remaining time. If it's not out by 9pm PST then so far as I'm concerned this was no fun. To me when someone says "Get it early", I'm thinking, you know, after work the day before or something.

Suppose the problem is that I'm not a high schooler anymore. These games are not necessarily released with my schedule in mind.

    Damn I hate growing up.

We're currently about 12 hours ahead of schedule with 11/13 games completed and the others nearly done.

Hmm. Sounds like an hour a game, right? And if there have only been 11 recalculations, that would make sense.

Everyone, take a deep breath, start a windowed mode of either game, and relax.

Also the bars are going up by pixels per minute, so the redistribution of Killing Floor's processing power is obviously having an impact.

Number of test subjects is increasing. I imagine they're probably unlocking based on who has what from participating heavily in this. The mystic 9, to the golden potato people, and then wittling ti down based on the number of potatoes gotten.

In which cas eI'll be towards then end with my 3 :(

I still place my money on the thousands who got the golden potato getting their name in the credits. Or at least the 9 taken people.

and the increases aren't just any golden potato people - there are correlations. For instance, I got mine later and I still am not playing.
