wait does this mean that aperture is in Michigan not Ohio like the first game implied?
Where was that implied in the first game?
Also, unrelated Chapter 5 Spoilers:
I'm really happy that the "Chell was an Aperture employee's daughter who was trapped in the facility on take your daughter to work day" they was correct. What's sad is that I completely missed her name even though I was combing the experiment boards for it.
Shame on the Ratman for bumping a pre-teen girl above his name on the test subject priority list.
Wait, what?
I finished the game, but... what?

Not really a spoiler, but I got a beanie for beating the game I guess? Seems in poor taste because the beanie is for sale in the store.
I eagerly await details on future content.
They've been doing that in TF2 for a while now. Drops for hats in-game, or if you're super impatient about some random cosmetic item that you don't see on yourself anyway, drop some dollars in to buy it.

It seems like thread searching is still disabled, so I'm sorry if this has been answered already, but does anyone know where this The National song is in Portal 2? The piano riff sounds familiar from the game specifically but I can't recall exactly where I might've heard it.
Pretty early on in chapter 2. There's a rat man room with it playing. Not terribly hard to find, yet easy to miss.
Thanks. It seems like there are waaaaaaay more secret areas than in Portal 1, I guess the lack of challenge stages and hard modes isn't going to keep me from finding something to do with the game.

K, beat that ridiculous room. Now I'm onto
the conveyor bit with the crusher
and my brain has failed me. I guess that I'm supposed to use the orange gel to get a runup off the conveyor, through the floor outside and into the bigass tractor beam? How the fuck do I get sufficent momentum without losing that portal outside?

I'm willing to run through co-op again if anybody needs a buddy. I have finished it, but I won't rush anybody through the puzzles or solve them for you. Basically I'll be an extra set of hands and help if you get stuck.
Plus I might have forgotten how to solve some of those puzzles already.
It was so brilliant. The brain-teasing gameplay, the amazing story, the hilarious, heartfelt characters that felt so full of life. This is what gaming should be. This game was a masterpiece.

Does anyone else hear the turret quartet music coming out of the weighted companion cube? At first I thought it was coming out of the walls somewhere, so I put the WCC down to investigate and the music got quieter as I walked away. Tried this in 2 different spots just to be sure.
Probably old news, but I just ran into it during my 2nd playthrough and thought it was a nice touch.
One of the things the defective turret says if you hold it long enough is "Her name is Caroline, remember that."
Most of what that turret says is foreshadowing. She says...
'Get Mad'
'Don't like lemonade'
'Prometheus was punished by the gods for giving man the gift of knowledge. He was cast deep underground and pecked by birds'
'It won't be enough'
'The answer is beneath us'
'Her name is Caroline, remember that'
'That's all I can say'
The Prometheus bit is especially clever since the old Aperture shafts are named after Tartarus, if you look around at the labels.

Just beat the SP about an hour ago, and yeah, THIS.
Honestly the
recordings of Cave & Caroline and GLaDOStato's subtle recognition that part of her WAS Caroline
was one of the most moving moments I've had in gaming. Valve has really done something amazing here.

Chell is the only one who's last name is shown as Redacted on the big list of test subjects and she is somehow able to get her dad to bring home science projects from the Aperture labs, she has a big ol DO NOT SUBJECT TO TESTING on her data sheet, and she is also listed as one to never give up.
Now I'm not jumping to any conclusions but they made it pretty clear that normal folks at Aperture don't get viewed as very important so there is no way a normal guy is gonna be able to take home super growth chemicals. Though I can think of one guy though who would be able to take stuff home.
A guy who himself was also more important then the peons going through testing. A pretty damn charismatic guy who also was one to never give up. A guy who probably would have adopted a kid to make him look more awesome/philanthropic in the eyes of others. A guy who probably would have been very interested in having an heir. Hmm I wonder who that guy could be...
SP and Co-op combined has made this GOTY for me so far and it will take something very special to replace it.
i would concur with this but there's still the outside possibility of duke
also skyrim is coming out this year
however
as of right now, its by far the best game i have played in a looooooooong time
Skyrim, Deus Ex 3, Mass Effect 3, and Arkham City are all going to be strong contenders but I actually doubt any of them will take it from Portal 2. This is why Valve takes ages to make games. Aside from it just being a brilliant game, the level of impeccable design and polish is on a level that no other developer can even touch.
The Oscars need to create a catagory for Best Writing in a game and give it to whoever did the writing for Portal, and then do away with the catagory. Haven't laughed so much since... probably since Portal!
Glados is such a Bitch, I love it!
It's a shame that the fact that it's a game is a barrier to entry for the average person. It really is one of the most well-written and funny pieces of entertainment I've experienced in my life, and the amount of people who will experience it is a drop in the bucket.

Yah, this aspect really makes me sad sometimes. I just want everyone to enjoy it as much as I did y'know.
Are there any references to HL besides Cave Johnson mentioning Black Mesa and the dry dock?
They mention various possible apocalyptic scenarios with the assumption that society has already crumbled, so there's that. Sort of.
Also the plan for a takeover by an "animal king", which you could extrapolate to being a poke at the combine overlord erring more towards the animal sorts of aliens and not the humanoid

okay fuck it i am looking too far into it
It was awesome at the end when there was actually a Turret King that looked like the graphic they used when they were talking about the animal king

Yeah, thanks for being a great co-op buddy. I'm surprised that I liked the co-op even more than the single player. I hope they release more content...
All that's left is Co-Op, and an eventual Commentary play through.
can you post an screenshot example?
I'd be willing to start up some co-oping. Be gentle.

More than 20 hours I guess. Took me 10 hours but I was completely stumped for a while on many puzzles.
I beat it in... 6?
5 according to the steam time counter.
