So I'm late to the party, started a month ago and having a blast noobing it up. I've been playing around with different characters vs bots and mostly playing Tristiana (pretty much because I saw a youtube of someone jumping over walls and it stuck) vs humans.
Anyway, I'm level 16 now and feel I have the basics and know what I need to practice (ie last hitting), and I mostly do well vs the other lowbies, but ran into a situation I couldn't figure out yesterday. Was mid against Caitlyn and I just couldn't do anything against her. With her range and peacemaker ability I was taking damage and she wasn't and I felt helpless. Is that just a bad matchup for Trist or is there a counter tactic that I was not seeing (other than swapping lanes)?
Also, I should probably learn tanking - which of the 1350 IP tanks would you suggest as a starter? Amumu right? I wasn't feeling him last time I tried him, but I should give it another go.

Amumu is very good but very hard to play unless you're good at jungling
he's also quite rune sensitive
I'd try alistar first - he's tough, doesn't need much gold and powerful

I started Amumu about your level. Laning with him isn't really as bad as most people say at that level because most enemies don't know how to properly harass.
Amumu, Alistar, Malphite, Shen, and Rammus would all be good tanks to learn.

Even though I'm probably the biggest cheerleader of Mumu, he isn't necessarily the best to start with for three reasons:
1. If you're not jungling, you'll probably hate your life as his pre-6 game sucks
2. If you're at all underleveled/farmed, you will die a LOT
3. Amumu is the master of lockdown, but if your team isn't coordinating well, they won't die fast enough, as unlike alistair and rammus, he doesn't get a ton of natural stat growth/defense
If you do decide to rock out with him, I recommend starting with the following for laning:
Regrowth+health pots (ideally your lanemate goes mana manipulator) > Philo Stone > Boots 1> Turtle Shell > Aegis/Merc Treads > Merc Treads/Aegis
From there, build based on whether they're predominantly AP (Force of Nature, or abyssal if you're wrecking face) or Physical (Sunfire, or thornmail if you're really getting rocked)
Sunfire is never a bad item on him.
Leveling will go one level of Q (stun never changes length, just damage, so after getting one point, leave it alone until it's the only thing you have left), E (you can spam E in fights, and it gives you damage reduction), W (cry away your enemies life, synergizes well with sunfire/abyssal) and of course prioritize R (team lockdown!)
I will say this - if you can land clutch bandage tosses/ults, you will wreck face.
So Corki actually works decently well bottom lane with a babysitter. Had a good Karma to lane with and we stomped faces and I wound up with highest CS in game. GGGG
Would never want to play Trist or Ezreal or Urgot bottom lane though

975 for champ and like 1300 for a single skin although the exact number might vary
but it's always the shitty skin in the 1300
brands the only champ since Ive started playing where I liked the cheapbundle skin more than the second skin. I thought about buying lee sins bundle but I only wanted his acolyte skin and the same with the last few down the line. Maokais an odd one because I can't decide if I like either of his skins or not.
Bah. Went 12/4/12 as Kayle and lost. Most of my team was okay other than our Akali. Alistar was fine till we hit the team fight stage, where he proceeded to run *away* from the other team till he was hiding behind Cait and myself.
He built Sunfire after Philostone and I was like "okay, I can maybe see that" and then he went FoN>Warmogs.
Even so I was managing to keep most everyone alive at the end of team fights, provided we had a numerical advantage but eventually their Tryn and Karthus got too fed for us to win with the Alistar handicap.
Edit: I was suprised how good the pyro skin looks on Brand. I was expecting that to be the worst based off the pictures but it looks much better in game.
Edit2: Boardshorts Lee Sin looks better than the Acolyte one in my opinion.

I haven't seen either of them in game actually but the acolyte picture seemed more interesting to me at least.
RE: Maokai. I level e first, then w then q. by six I'm lv1 q, lv1 w, lv3 e, lv1 r and sapplings just eat people alive. What's really good is when they get close throw a sap and stun them where it lands making them take both hits.
I had an awesome time rocking out as Lee Sin on Twisted Treeline. He kicks ass there as a jungler type as you can pretty much gank anyone over the walls and pop back over if you have good teammates/wards.
Now I need to be good at him in a real game.

Let us keep this maokai information to ourselves. I thoroughly enjoy surprising people with the trees being alive.
EDIT: Teemo in a real game SUCCESS! That was awesome. They nerfed the number of traps he can carry at once didn't they? It seemed like me planting a shroom every time it was up didn't lead to as many shrooms on the ground as I used to see.

No, what they did was make it take longer for teemo to generate shroom stacks. He can hold 3 at a time, but generates a shrrom stack every X seconds, and they basically made it X+11 seconds.

Anyone have any Ashe tips? I'm not doing particularly poorly and generally I have the lowest number of deaths on my team but I really want to get up my number of assist.
I am leveling W and then Q and then E usually when team fights start or if I max out W.
uh offensive masteries for extra critical strike.

Things go a lot easier with movespeed masteries and quints.
So I just hit 18 and have been saving IP for 20 and runes.
I have enough for one full page (including the slots I won't have unlocked yet) so with the extra I'll probably get both mpen and arpen reds to cover those bases on the two pages you start with.
I want to focus my first set on Maokai type characters, giving all champs some pen and tankiness.
Is getting both armor/mres and for quints HP a good idea? Which color would it be better to have as each stat? And is that a decent way to cover bases at least starting out with t3 runes? In my head it seems good, gives whoever I play some extra damage ability and survivability while I earn more and start to build character specific.

A while ago my Ashe play changed form doing R>W>E>Q to E>R>W>Q. The gold ends up being a significant boon by mid game assuming you are sporting a hundred or so last hits. Get a point in q at some point.
As far as boots go, Ive dropped the idea of ever running boots of switftness on ashe in favor of berserkers.
Buy your first item based on what you are midding against. Because I'm not leveling W, I am not really focused on harrassing, just playing defensively and last hitting every minion I can. If you are definatly up against a physical based champion, grab a dorans shield as a first item, otherwise grab dorans blade. I run teleport/flash as well.
Main early game ashe is just lasthitting, and when you hit 6 to assist ganking top and bottom lanes with your ult. Get good at predicting enemy champ movement. There are 3 types of situations you want to shoot into.
Pushing- if the enemy champions are being reliably agressive, for example chasing your team.
Pulling- if the enemy champions are reliably running away from your allies, shoot to block their escape.
Stalemate- the situation in the lane is stalemated, double check the creeps before shooting to make sure the creep lines wont move, generally shoot just across the back of the caster minions.
A full 3 second stun is in most cases going to net a kill in a lane. This is a significant advantage ashe has over other mid champions, ashe can gain assist gold by never leaving lane, while still focusing on last hitting.

You can look at my rune pages, in-game name FlipprDolphin. I have a Moakai rune page specific for him, and a general tank page (i think its called Kennen/Cho or something like that).
HP Quints, magic pen Marks, scaling MP/5 Seals, and flat (my preference) or scaling CDR Glyphs is a great generic caster set. It works well enough on pretty much every AP champion.

I'll try throwing out E earlier next game that I play. I have been going boots of swiftness but I like your idea of dropping them in favor of berserkers. So far my arrows have been pretty good. Well I have good games and bad games but i've turned around many many stalemate situations. Plus I really like the teleport + arrow combo. Timing that one up well is incredibly satisfying and usually nets a kill for me. I'm not sure if that works for higher levels of gameplay though.
I've been kind of using W to last hit/harass while saving her regular attack for criticals on champions. Is that an awful idea? I guess I should also say that this has lead me to really really work on lateral movement which I think has improved my gameplay a ton.
I'll drop the boots and give E a fair shake. I can recall quite a few times when I really wish I had it earlier anyway.

500g mid game isn't really worth the massive drop in volley damage and frequency, by level 9 you can be firing them out every 3-4 seconds, slowing everyone nearby.

Zerkers can be ok, if you need boots fast, but when someone is running away you actually hit them faster with swiftness than zerkers because you spend less time running between attacks.

That would actually be Phreak, but jiji isn't too far behind, and jiji is near the top at just about everything else, as well

Regardless, I duo'd with my friend who played Gragas, and we absolutely dominated the lane, it was glorious.

I love that flippr build. His harassment is incredible.
it's an instant kill at level 2-3
it can only go up now right?
E, all the way, unless you have a melee lane partner who needs the extra root time.
Now I need to be good at him in a real game.
