Getting to him without losing a round is easy enough. Getting a double flawless is another thing. Even on beginner he manages to get one cheap shot in.
First combo i tried getting down is the jump forward FP, BP, BP, Lift, Jump kick, teleport punch, dash forward, BP, BP, Psychich throw for something like 46% damage.
The hardest part is really the dash BP, BP. Also, the ground combo needs to be done quick so you can't really hit confirm, and the psychic lift has some recovery to it. I might switch the ground part to back+FP, FP, BK into lift, or into psychic throw if blocked, since it's pretty safe.
This is precisely why the new MK is so awesome. The amount of customization and creativity that goes into these combos is outstanding. It's all so fluid. It reminds me of MK2 crossed with Killer Instinct.
Thanks for reminding me we need a new one of those.
A few people who got the game early unlocked some of the classic costumes by simply purchasing the concept art in the Krypt. (which is how you unlock the normal alternate costumes) However that was fixed in the day one patch. (I don't know if that removed the costumes from those who got them by mistake though)
Really? I still haven't applied the patch, nor have I started the krypt stuff. Got a source on this? Cause if it's true, I'll go through and unlock everyone before patching so I can confirm or deny it.
So I've been thinking about sub zero and the inevitable sequel
noob saibot was thrown into the soulnado by nightwolf and disappeared, and most assume he's dead. However, in the original timeline, the same thing happens to scorpion, and the elder gods rescue him, freeing him of quan chi's control, and tur him into their champion to do the work of good.
I think the same thing will happen to noob saibot. When cyber sub zero meets him, he claims that he's changed due to quan chi's magic. I think that, if the elder gods do make him their champion, he'll return as the old sub zero to save the day in mk4.
And that's how he'll return to the series. However doing so would effectively end noob saibot.
so, is the implication (in Scorpion's chapter) that the younger Sub-Zero was responsible for the murder of Scorpion's wife and child?
It's a plot point that is set up for MK4.
Quan Chi actually murdered scorpion's clan. He's manipulating scorpion, and framed sub-zero.
That makes sense.
I never bothered with MK4, so I'd forgotten about that plot point, but it all fits. Excellent.
It even makes more sense if you played mk mythologies
that sub-zero defeated shinnok and saved earth. Quan chi is shinnok's right-hand man. They used scorpion to kill sub zero so they could turn him into noob saibot, effectively putting the man who defeated them into slavery to them
On my sixth run through the arcade ladder tonight and on the second round against Shang I've got him to about 25% health. As I'm about to start a combo he gets super armor and blasts me in the face dashing my double flawless to bits. Goddam Shang fucking Tsung! I guess this will have to wait till tomorrow.

If this happen, I'm sure that noob would either ask for his brother to return to being human or he would return as sub-zero with some awesome noob saibot moves.

They could just make another Noob Saibot. It's not like any of Sub-Zero's moves translate into Noob Saibot's moves. One could just assume when Quan Chi makes that kind of ninja spector that's how they turn out. He'd end up being a special version of a generic villain who has the same moves, sort of like Baraka. Just more rare.

see, I though that as well at the time, but later,
another opportunity for normal sub-zero coming back happens at the end, when quan chi is in possession of all the good guys' souls
since Cyber subbie regained his soul before dying, if he is resurrected by the elder gods or whoever, he could easily come back in non-robot form
So apparently even if you discover a hidden fatality you still can not see it's input unless you unlock it in the Krypt? Also Smoke is terrible.
I've never unlocked any fatality in the krypt, and all the fatality inputs I've gotten online show up in the move list after the first time I preform them correctly.
And yeah... Smoke is pretty bad. Is there something to him I'm missing? I love his new look, love his story, but gameplay wise his specials seem to suck big time.

Hmmm I unlocked all of Cyrax's fatalities but they don't show up for some reason. Maybe I am doing something wrong.
I got to him in story mode last night and it was just bad. I am with you I just don't seem to get his moveset. Kitana on the other hand, I was pleasently surprised. She was quite fun to play.
I can see smoke being one of the more advanced characters. He's got a parry which generally aren't super easy to use, a teleport which may or may not be good for mindgames, a fireball whose main purpose is to set the opponent into a juggle state at the end of a ground attack string, and a teleport for a damaging special to be used at the end of a combo. He's probably really good at setting the opponent up for damaging combos once you get the hang of him.
Raiden pleads with the elder gods for assistance. They refuse because Mortal Kombat only prevents Shao Kahn from merging the realms; he can still invade. When Liu Kang wins the tournament in outworld Shao Kahn looses the ability to ever merge the realms.
At the end of the game when Raiden lets him win, there is nothing to win, and he still hasn't done anything that the elder gods would have a problem with. I call bull shit on this one.
So I acquired this last night. Played some of the story mode before bed time. Found out I'm pretty comfortable with Sonya and Johnny Cage, two characters I used to never touch. Which feels both weird and awesome.
Anyways, looking forward to some matches with ya'll. 360 tag is ProtoSound. I should be on this weekend.

A. His parry is actually somewhat easy to use, as you have control over how long he stays in "parry" mode. Easiest parry in the game imo.
B. His teleport is terrible. I've been knocked out of it several times at very odd times... seems pretty buggy.
C. The fireball is alright, great for combos, but next to useless otherwise.
I imagine he'll be a pain for characters that rely on keep a distance with fireballs (like Shang Tsung) thanks to a pretty awesome parry, but besides that he just seems.... lacking.

Also, Sindel is a goddamn bad ass. Who knew?
Pretty simple really. Just take it as, at that moment, Shao Khan decided in his hubris he was going to merge the realms anyway despite the Elder God's rules instead of just conquering Earthrealm. The Elder Gods are all seeing, and as such said "OH NO HE DIDN'T"
Simple enough. But this is Mortal Kombat, it's a B Movie type entertainment. Why are you even asking these questions? :P
Also on the topic of Smoke: Apparently he's considered top tier? I guess it's because his smoke bomb special can be used to seriously fuck people up who try to...ever jump, ever. If you're good with it.
I know one of the strategy guides did a series of X match ups for this character against that to sort out rough tiers based on average victories, with various adjustments.

Yes there are indeed tier lists out. Smoke is apparently considered top-tier, which is disappointing because when I decided to main him I kind of thought he sucked a bit, but apparently his moves are pretty good in the hands of people that don't suck. I might switch to cyber sub-zero since apparently he is 'shit tier' and that way I'd have an excuse. Seriously, I like the smoke bomb, but it seems nearly impossible for me to pull it off at the end of a combo and it also seems very easy to avoid/block.

The one thing about that list that baffles me is the positions of Sub Zero and C-Sub. It seems like everywhere I go it's agreed that Sub-Zero is too slow to fulfill his role and that the extra speed on C-Sub makes him a lot better.
I still have not tried Ermac yet but he certainly looks very very good. He is on my ever expanding list of characters to try.

My only experience with Smoke is just during the story mode, but from what I played he seemed pretty rad. My only issue was that the smoke bomb only teleports your opponent just out of reach. You can't smoke bomb --> uppercut on the cheap. There's some tiny distance there that you have to close and in most cases I could only do so with a quick jumping punch/kick.
It also doesn't help that I'm a really bad player.
Okay so I'm terrible at this game. I had my butt constantly wooped in Arcade mode by Shao Khan on Medium. Bastard is cheap, and my mash-fu works little on him. Used Cyrax btw.

Also, what the hell does the Tournament Mode Kombat Kode do exactly? Couldn't figure it out.

It removes the first hit meter bonus and some foreground images. Not sure but I think it removes Dan Forden too.

The nature of fighting games can make the tier list of say a month from now radically different to the one now.
Ermac

Most people can just enjoy the game without worrying about tiers too much.
It also doesn't help that I'm a really bad player.
